Slavery ?

I like to play archipelago maps, and I find slavery very useful early on for building stuff in cities on very small islands, which often lack shields but have plenty of food from lighthouse and sea resources.

In my current game slavery helped me develop a flood plain city that generates +7 food/turn and 25 base commerce/turn, before paper or banking.

same here, use it to kill over populated cities,
each population adds 1 unhappiness, force them to work only add 1 unhappiness. so sometime is worth it.

altho there are no real reason in killing your people, if city is over populated, and people gets angry and refuse to work, but its only the angry people that dont work.

Yeah but angry people still eat, which slows down production of settlers and workers. Slavery would be good if it wasn't for the -1 happiness hit. Most players will only want their cities to grow to the level of happiness which keeps all the citizens working. Using unhappy people to rush build under slavery isn't really a viable option unless you've got a lot of happy faces leeway.

Never used it. Probably never will. First of all, it's the firt civic available in most of my games, if not all of them. It's not even worth one turn of anarchy. Second - I don't like the aforementioned happiness hit. Usually I wait until I get a few civics available to me before changing, rather than changing every time I get something new. That is, unless I want to switch between theocracy and org rel.

In a higher difficulty where your new conquered city has a tendency to flip right back to your enemy's hands because of the proximity, Slavery is a neat trick to rapidly reduce the other nationalities in order to rush high culture buidings. This can also help you change the demongraphics of the population in terms of nationality and religion...

Slavery is extremely helpful early on in the game if you are being beset by enemies or barbarians. If you're building a military unit and your defenses are failing, sacrificing the population to finish the unit to save the city is extremely helpful.

I'm 99% sure you can also hurry certain world and national wonders - at least with free speech paid for; I also moused over last night while building something - possibly chitzen itcha not sure - and was informed it would require 14 population sacrificed (which I didn't have naturally) so I never got to try it.
