huh?..oh the Olympics.Ya..unfortunately we cannot afford it.We're looking at close to 1 BILLION dollars just to upgrade the highway from Van to Whistler. It really is bad.Putting that volume on it will be a nightmare regardless of what is done to it.A winding, twisting road along a coast overlooking cliffs and ocean. The road is full of small holes where rocks fall on it from above. Many people killed over the years.I hate driving that road.Beautiful drive view wise though.
Much better would be an expanded ferry service to Squamish which is about an hour or so from Whistler.
Getting to events is going to be a big problem.
Not too mention all the stuff we gotta build. All this while a vicious government led by a drunk driver has been slashing spending like books for the blind, bus passes for seniors, closing schools and hospitols and tearing up collective agreements. We are eating our dessert before our dinner type thing
There is another serious hidden problem that no one has talked about. Our climate in this region is changing to semi tropical. We have very little snow nowadays. Many winters in Vancouver do not see a single snowflake.Whistler/Blackcombe has had their seasons shortened considerably due to lack of snow.In 7 years we may not be able to hold a Winter event.Winter Olympics are kinda tough without snow.
Oh well....back to the struggle at hand
