It reminds me a lot of this picture, both in color and shape

Spoiler :

Honestly even if it’s such low resolution that roof looks too much like a dome for a mud brick mosque.
I thought so too, then I read everyone seems to think it is Mali and turned my monitor's brightness to maximum and - tadaaa - it doesn't look like a dome anymore.

I am obligatory going with Mali as those chocolate coins were more of a hint.

I agree, my first thoughts were Mali as well, but I also feel like it could be Phoenicia?

EDIT:

Hmm I'm not sold on Mali tbh. It sort of looks like an adobe mosque from afar, but the building is a bit too angular for my taste.

Maybe it is Sweden after all?

The shape of the picture matches that of the smaller roof turrets (somewhat) on the Tre Kronor castle. The teaser pic is a macro of a small background detail, which those turrets would be, so i don't think we can rule out Sweden just yet.

I've quicky searched the other Civs as well. Carthage's cothon had a column which has a similar shape to the teaser pic, but is round (and whatever is depicted in the sneak peek is clearly rectangular), so we can eliminate them. It's not Eleanor either, the pic doesn't match Poitiers citadel, and I haven't found an Ottoman building that could lurk in their diplo background which matches with it either.

In sum: it's probably just Mali anyway lol.

It could be the mud mosque.

The tower in the middle would somehow fit.

But the proportions would be wrong. The "spike" on top too thin, the "shadow"(?) is wierd (told you so! :D) and those wooden pegs are missing.

Nope, sorry, I don't see the mud mosque in this sneak peek.

mmm... chocolate... :D

I agree entirely! These sneak peeks are really quite boring.

I agree too, the older sneak peeks also encouraged us to find more background information (pun intended? :D). Big fan of the marketing except for these new hints.

Can’t agree more on this. The hints for R&F prompts you to read and study about the corresponding leaders and civilization and get you more emotionally involved with them, like I was so happy to realize the spider story I heard in childhood was about this actual history figure Robert the Bruce and then I continued the next two hours wiki-ing his background. But now the “hints” are just one vague a$$ blurry print that i don’t care for to another vague a$$ blurry print that i don’t care for.

Well, it's a resounding "meh" from me...

I have to say these obscure sneak peeks leave me pretty cold. They may have been easier, but I preferred R&F's mini-quizzes, as they felt like more than reading far too much into a vague shape or colour palette. I'll be back tomorrow for an actual announcement :).

Hoping for Mali, but I am content with the other choices. This week’s clue is the first one for both x-packs that truly has me stumped.

Yeah, I think I agree with you. The proportions don't fit and the lack of spikes is obvious.

As the case of Canada demonstrated, this may not even be the main building, just some generic structure in the background.

Well, that's a product of them wanting to make it not as easy to figure out.

I think it can be one or the other.
