SnL-01 Follow the nose (It always knows)

Good thing this is an SnL... S.ilver would be turfed out of any real SG by now. Yay for busy weekends and upcoming exams :crazyeye:.

I think I'm inclined to go north rather than west for Izzy Dot. That land to the west is cased in jungle and doesn't have a whole lot going for it. Although I haven't looked at the save yet, so not sure what's to the north.

Will try to get the turns posted by tomorrow night, assuming no mishaps.

Well capital can push out 3.6ish turn swords so busting barbs is gonna be fast hehe. those impi spears rock for medics hehe.

To expand north gonna need to take out that barb town... can hit orange dot barb after I guess.

Reason I mention izzy dot is because say is out of room already... not sure when he's gonna dumpster dive north west. Grabbing izzy with the first setter would extend our block.

North (once that barb is razed) has a few good town locations in it btw so mix and match as you see fit. that fat cross tool is great in game.

However.

Cheers!
-Liq

350BC (101):

Preflight check. After reviewing Liq's logic on settling Izzy dot, I'm inclined to agree, as Saladin is growing rapidly and we need to stop him from heading north. The city will be very nice after it is dug out of the jungle, but the key is AFTER. Worker abuse all around!

Nothing to change in 3 towns so far, pumping out troops to expand via barb conquest.

325BC (102):

Promote the sword to CR2 and check odds. 56% chance. We have more troops incoming and will have to pay more upkeep soon as well, so attack. The rolls go in our favour and we win 3 more XP for the sword. Calculated XP gains :D. That type of victory deserves a name. "Oscar" could sound Zulu if... eh whatever, that's his translated name :P. Ok, that was probably a :smoke: move that I would be regretting if it failed. Next sword is incoming to join in on the XP party.

300BC (103):

Umgunlov gets a random spread of Buddhism! Yeah, but there's no way we're stupid enough to convert! You know what that means... free diplo hits incoming when Sally asks us to convert!

I totally wasn't paying attention when I attacked the city last turn. Seems only a wounded archer is left and a Sid's gift too!

set4almostdeadarcher.jpg

set4anasazi.jpg

We win Sid's "Generosity", and ok, so I wasn't totally out of it! Seems that Monty attacked the city with his chariot and got beat down and had to withdraw. Well, good thing, otherwise I would have looked really stupid for killing the archer last turn!

As Sirian famously says "Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good!"(TM)

Can slightly see Monty's border to the north of Anasazi. Easier name, but not by much O.o. Get it on a monument immediately.

Ok, new sword and Medic Pimpi Roy are heading for Orange Dot posthaste.

275BC (104):

Sad news... Confusion was founded in a distant land! Liq's favourite religion is gone and it doesn't look like we'll be the confused Zulus anytime soon :crazyeye:.

Anyways, Umgun spams its settler and we're sending him off to Izzy Dot location. Umgun also grew and we're now at max happy until we can hook up the gems, so dialing swords.

250BC (105):

Ulundi finishes it's sword and we don't need to be spamming troops here anymore, so dial up a monument. Also set us in growth mode for a few turns to hit cap.

Nobamba spams out an Impi and we get to work on a library, as more unit maintenance isn't in the cards right now.

225BC (106):

set4alphabet.jpg

Dialing up Med->Priesthood so we have something to build. No trades of that junk right now as the AI would get a favourable bonus, thereby incurring us worst enemy trading penalties!

Nobamba's Impi goes flawless against a wandering barb warrior, allowing Discountenance to continue building the road to Izzy Dot.

Over at Aryan, Monty's wounded chariot ran afoul of the barbs.

set4woundedbarbarcher.jpg

The new swordsman takes a hit taking out the archer, so we burn the CR promos to get him back to health. We'll leave Aryan alone until we have orange dot I think.

Umgun finishes it's sword, so going to dial up an archer and delete the old warrior in the capital.

200BC (107):

Anasazi (or whatever it's called) it out of revolt, so we start mining the gems.

Nobamba is hitting caps next turn, so must remember to do something about it.

175BC (108):

Immediately whip Anasazi's monument so we can get some culture pushing out here.

Orange dot is Avar, and Sally has an archer poking around here, so going to get all troops in place first.

Ulundi finishes it's monument and hey, we can build beakers now. Get to that. Ulundi popping to size 6 in 2 turns, and will be capped.

Umgun finished an archer and we'll dial another one in 1 turn before building some research as well. We do not need additional units at the moment.

150BC (109):

Umgun done another archer, switching to some beakers.

Anasazi's monument finishes and we get to a granary.

125BC (110):

set4meditation.jpg

Delhi get's hit by a hurricane, good hopefully that slows India down.

A forest pops on the hill directly east of Ulundi, in the BFC, yay.

Found Bulawayo on Izzy Dot.

set4bulawayo.jpg

Seems there's yet ANOTHER bard town here that needs to be razed, good thing for the military. Of course we get on a monument at Bulawayo.

100BC (111):

set4priesthood.jpg

Tentatively dial up Code of Laws.

Monty WILL trade Monarchy for Alpha and Mediation (not a horrible deal on Monarch level).

We will be ready to crash into Avar (orange dot) in two turns when we will have more than enough units on had to punk the city and not let Sally get it.

Moved Umgun off of research and onto a Bud Temple.

S.ilver is so rusty that he has no idea what to do next...

Woo Oscar on the 56% power slide!

Nice turns but well rest assured our economy is totally tanked, before even looking at taking out orange dot sigh. There's no way we can handle the land around that northern barb town so might as well leave it up for monty. He's gonna grab that land far before we can.

Wager that monarchy trade is even enough not to incur trading diplo hits so win there perhaps.

As for borders, see no reason not to open them up for sally now that izzy is secure. He is unlikely to settle to our north, and if he does, doesn;t matter as we cannot afford more land and maybe get some more budyism going.

Cheers!
-Liq

Yeah, no problem Liq. Got exams for a bit, so I won't be able to play anyways. Take your time.

Slow but steady. By the looks of the screens, once you can cottage everything up (which, if I recall, is your preferred method of economy), you should be sitting pretty...-er. Still looking forward to how you'll deal with your pleasant neighbors.

Preturn:100 BC
ok can see right off the bat that our economy is gonna seriously tank with orange dot hehe. One of the reasons I picked this low water line map script was to give the AI's a boost, as they are able to spam limitless towns initially.

If we can manage to corral our neighbors diplomatically we should be ok keeping the north busy and keeping sally happy. Need to somehow get Asoka and Monty to beat on each other so we can safely go buddy to perma happy buddy style.

So lets first pull off a trade
SnL01-100BCmontymonarchy.jpg

Leading to
SnL01-100BCmonarchy.jpg

I'll hold off on revolting until we have our economy in order.

Have to lower science to 20 ... dropping to 0 maybe!

I open borders with sally as we
a. want a home for that buddy miss I spy
b. Get the love fest going.

Oh and just in case silver forgets...
SnL01-100BCSiegfried.jpg

Good thing liq saved a few tigers before the barbs came.

Scary!

[1]75 BC

Monty pops a town within view...
SnL01-75BCmontytown1.jpg

Seems the barb town really forced Monty's questionable town location!

SnL01-75BCBuddyLove1.jpg

Operation Buddy Love is in progress!

Line up the troops on orange dot. 87ish% odds with a pair of CR1 swords and the cr2 at 4.9 health. Roy is there to help.

place a 5 turn worker in Ulundi and actually get a scientist going there and in umgunlove seeing as they will be the grand total of our research in a bit hehe.

An archer is so deep in sally land I just auto explore him. remember to destroy him in a few thousand years.

[2]50 BC
Asoka pops a town somewhere evening up the town score a bit.

So the fight for orange dot begins!
Sword1 (now Todd) takes out the first archer with 4.1 health left but is 5/5 exp for cr2.
Sword2 takes out the second and last archer flawless... Cecil it is!
SnL01-50BCOrangedot.jpg

So economy is officially tanked or something hehe

3 turns of Anarchy in Avar and the swords pile into town to heal. Will end up either taking out the barb to the NE for the cash or just heading west of Izzy dot to take that trash out. Notice Oscar is chilling in Red so head him over to that northern barb town as Monty has a chariot snooping around.

[3]25 BC
Nobamba gets buddied up free of charge from sally just as it's library finishes... I start on a 8ish turn buddy temple. get population growing as well since gems online soonish.

I scout around with Siegfried to bait a few barbs maybe.

Dejungle the gems near red dot (Anasazi) and will get to work on them soon as Growth in 2, granary in 3, and 5 turns on culture bounce (for the other 2 gems and rice). The road is done next turn for the happy just as Nobamba is about to get angry!
SnL01-25BCRedDot.jpg

Red Dot is on fire!

[4]1 AD

Since Monty left, the task force heads north east to hook up with Oscar to barb bash, while Todd stays in orange dot to heal and pretend to be garrison. Wow, economy really takes a hit as the troops leave town hehe. Also move that archer that was keeping an eye on the north barb town to garrison Orange - er wait...

Looking it over that barb town is sheltered perfectly with that mountain range and is prime A ground. We *might* be able to keep that barb town as we can shift the other dot south and remove the one based on the iron. Red Dot's gems and uber barracks alone will allow us to handle the load!!!:king:

In that case, keeping that archer close by for garrison. I tried to make a screen which would explain it all but well, it was too big and ugly. Suffice to say the dot south of barb town has it's home row all it's own and precious else that's not shared hehe. Definite filler.

Avar comes online next turn so lets see if we keep that northern barb town.

[5]25 AD
Wow, even cash @ 20% baby!
get a chop going for orange dot, kitty corner plains on the river as I don't think lumber mills collect commerce even after 3.19 patch. Save the other forests for now as we are sorta slim on production towns.

That all means Operation "What Settlers?" is Go! time to take over that barb town in the north!

Spam a few more annoying signs.

[6]50 AD
Ulandi pops Shaka's "Discomposure" and move into 'growth territory' complimented by a wild 4 hammer research build hehe.

The granary at red finishes as well and onto a 6 turn uber barracks. Cookin' with the proverbial hot grease now baby!

[7]75 AD
Umgun finishes the temple as I move it into growth mode and idle in a research build hehe 12ish turns on forever code!

Chop goes into Avar's monument and it'll be done in 2.

The stack of bigmen to be are finally on the correct side of the river to attack the poor barb town. Sally and Asoka have a pair of archers glued to that town ready to swoop in on the kill... sorry gals.

Medi impi west takes out a forested barb warrior for free exp hehe. Gets 2 xp and a promo which I'll bank as medic 2 is junk without a gg to open medic 3 and woods is marginal with mobility.

The eastern workers get to roading the place better as this bare bones transportation system isn't cutting it.

[8]100 AD
Ok so time to make or break a few swords!
SnL01-100ADAryansetup.jpg

Got the fan club out here so lets make it look good!
Oscar first with a 'mere' uh 98.3%... ow 1.8 health left but he survived the RND with 10/10 exp!
Cecil next and takes the trash out with 3.5 Health left.
SnL01-100ADAryanCapture.jpg

We keep Aryan, nicely sheltering 'marginal dot.' Mock not the Name as that town of shared tiles will be a powerhouse... eventually... perhaps

We are so spoiled with all these rivers around.

Troops pile in to save cash more than anything else hehe. Let Todd head to the west barb town as that crap needs to get razed sooner rather than later, and it can be done piece meal. Leaving orange dot unguarded for now as Siegfried is on the way.

Another sally buddy missionary is on the way north to Ulundi!

Oh!
SnL01-100ADBigmanOscar.jpg

Oscar is our first Bigman!

[9]125 AD
Red pops its phat cross and gem number 2 is already dejungled and roaded. The Workers jump on that mine like white on unirrigated rice!

Barb archer pops near Izzy again, lets hope it attacks! Whipping next turn for the insta granary! or uh sorta insta..

Sally will not trade gems for gold... the bastard...

[10]150 AD
Remember to whip buffalo town (Izzy dot) and Ulandi gets buddied up so move to a mild starvation diet to pop out a 7 turn temple. I placed umgun on a monastery as we need to get avast in the north as much culture asp.

Btw Izzy and Red dots look to be ideal spots for oxford/wall street since Aryan will be fighting Monty culture which got a jump start and will need mass culture buildings.

Siegfried is auto pathing to garrison Avar while Nobamba is on its permanent Garrison. Might want to start up on some axes to double up garrison.

Main force is holed up in Aryan. Haven;t been able to look NW of buffalo at that coastal pony town... would kill us to nab it if still open but..... god those barracks rock.

Added another dot SW of izzy that we have a good shot at if we want it. Should be able to pay for itself asap with that gold hehe.

Code of laws in 9-14! Depends who you want to build research hehe. Sally has math but not alpha.. will not trade. Seems he has wine now too which you might want to trade for.

Monty not planning war and Asoka still hasn't chosen a religion! WTH is going on??

Cheers!
-Liq

Figures we play as Shaka and the only beatdown we're handing out so far is to the barbs :crazyeye:.

Just had time to glance at the save, looks like we're getting set to curl up for another round of building and generally shoring up the economy. Looks like we've got a lot of worker abuse to do . I won't be able to get to it until Tuesday night at the earliest though.

Those two dots near izzy/buffalo are tempting though I'm sure the north one is gone by now.

That barb town will get on it's feet relatively fast seeing as it's not encased in jungle and is size 3 or 4 to go. If you can bitz a buddy miss over to Aryan, so it can start on some counter culture after the core buildings are done, that would be good.

That mere -20% maintenance on the cheap barracks really helps out in unexpected ways.

Really be nice if we could force asoka over to buddy hehe.

Cheers!
-Liq

Ok, since civ5's release is a total train wreck  for anyone that's a serious student of Civ4, time to reanimate this installment of "RNGer's gonna hate"

Since the ball is in Silver's questionable court, Liq ran through the game again, shaking his head at the effing RNG. Least Bigman Oscar beat back the not so random number gangster for this 56% chance barb bust.:king:

Anyway, looking over Shaka's gem fueled, hax-barracks, almost getting courthouse insano economy, we can expand more!!!

20% science slider is worth 7 total gold with izzy dot not even costing us 4 gpt. Code of laws is 14ish turns away which means 70% total reduction in town cost soon. I also noticed that the 3rd gems at red are not mined and only one is getting worked (for growth) yet, so mass more cheese commerce incoming!:D

So fired up the old cs2 and came up with what I was alluding to at the end of my last set....

SnL-01BugYellowdot.jpg

Look at that sexiness there. Cannot stand to not include el purple filler for later! Actually purple isn't a horrible town as this new yellow is one south of where I originally was thinking.

Keep in mind only the far east patch of plantlife (green square) is jungle, the rest of the shrubbery is forest (for yellow).

My idea on this town is to maximize its long-term hammer potential, so we have a good west coast port town with which to spit out shipping. That means do not chop the 3 resource-less forests as food should allow us to work all the Hammers. Freshwater and coastal means a ton of health, so mining the south forest is an option.

The gold tile is a zero food desert hill, so working that tile is optional.

Doubt that pony town to the north is available or if we even really want it to be honest but, yellow we want yesterday. Todd is in the area to exp off the barbs and can act as scout/ garrison/ fog busting. Also, the medic spear can swing on over to pony dot since orange dot's garrison archer is a fast build in Damascus2.

Seriously think next tech should be currency since calendar needs fishing, sailing and math.

Cheers!
-Liq

PS a buddy miss from the post before is evidently a Buddhist Missionary...

Yeah liq had me confused there too! .

umgun is quickly on the way toward spitting out those 'buddy misses'

Gonna add a new dot mapped save actually..

So with S.ilver's old machine blowing up from yet unexplained circumstances, this game came to a screeching halt. Boo. Well, put together a new machine to meet the specs of Civ 5 and hey; it turns out that Civ 5 is made of fail (at least until they patch it). So back we are to Civ 4 and let's get this game finished.

Remind a S.ilver to reinstall Civ 4 the day before he is supposed to play his turns; spent a bloody hour and a half juggling discs, downloading the path, downloading Blue Marble, and BUG! Luckily had time to read the thread and figure out WTH we were doing.

150AD (121):

So boot up the game and look at the nice Rivers that actually look like rivers (instead of blue lines done up in MS paint).

Looks like Liq went through and MMed everything because I can't see anything that needs any fixing. Well, besides Avar having no garrison (that will be fixed in a few turns). Absolutely no trades yet and no war yet either, very odd with Monty around and folks that he doesn't like.

Anyways, get Lars moving from Aryan over to help Todd mop up the barbs, exp all around! Cecil is hurt, so going to let him heal first.

CoL in 12 @ 20% -3gpt, tempted to jack up science to burn cash, but we're about to spam more settlers, so that's about to get a lot worse.

Not sold on Liq's "Grab Me" town, because there are a ton of mountains there. Going to look into "scout me" first to block Asoka, Sally isn't rushing "Grab Me" anytime soon, what with the utter garbage to his west.

175BC (122):

Asoka spams another town somewhere, so going to have to check north, he probably settled on or near "Scout Me", which leaves "Grab Me" as the only option. Oh, and he moved from cautious to pleased, probably was a display error because I remember him being pleased before.

Cecil healed up so he'll get moving to scout out the northwest area.

Discomposure is going to pull a road up to Aryan before we bother farming for the rice (which won't get irrigation until Civil anyways).

Noticing that we can't do much until we get Maths (to unlock Calendar) ugh.

200AD (123):

Temple of Solomon spammed far away, someone got a great profit last turn and I neglected to mention it, bad S.ilver.

Anasazi finished spamming it's Ikhanda this turn, and we move to 1.0 power with Asoka, heh. Town has both food and commerce, so library for sure.

India back to cautious btw, WTH? :/

Todd beats down on a random archer wandering around the barb town to take his XP to 7.

225AD (124):

Monty's walled town of WTH gets the religious wall event, whatever.

Aryan out of revolt, size 4 and pissed because of Yearning. Huh???

Bah, seems like my printscreen key is not working properly, good thing I am checking now eh? Go download FRAPs. Bah, free version only gives you giant BMPs, going to have to remember to clear out SS folder after every round...

Ok...

set5barbyearning.jpg

They yearn to be barbs again? Huh?

Whatever... 2-pop whip that town and gonna overflow for the granary probably. Problem solved. Town is growing too fast so move work off one of the floods to one of the 1/1/1 tiles. The hill works.

Nobamba spammed out and archer and is stable at size 7. Has 2 hired scientists, so dial up a monastery for the bonus; that and we can't really take on more unit maint.

So notice that something (probably FRAPs) has messed up my Esc key so it doesn't work anymore with Civ. Save the game and reboot Civ. Still not work. Oh heck it was Photoshop somehow messing it up. No idea... Oh, well one thing that did was reset my BUG settings to default, great thanks... Go back through the settings and put everything back.

250BC (125):

Todd beats down on the second archer wandering around Barb town to take his XP to 9. One more!

Actually, forget about using Cecil to scout, he's too slow. Gogo Medic Pimpi Siegfried!

set5asokaborders.jpg

Oh well we are too late, so will look south to expand. Pray that Monty goes bonkers on Asoka soon.

Aryan's whipped monument is in, going to go stagnant to build the Granary in 6 turns.

Send Sid's "Generosity" westward to help with worker abuse.

275AD (126):

Saladin spams another town somewhere, up to 11 now >.<

Umgunlovu! finishes it's Monastery, that's nice. Push out another archer as we'll need town garrison soonish. This town grows (to the cap) next turn even if I hire 2 scientists, so do that now to buttress our pathetic beakers.

300AD (127):

Umgun moves to size 7 and I stabilize it.

Monty has a Jag and an archer poking around Aryan. Right buddy.

325AD (128):

A look at Asoka's craziness with the cities...

set5asokatowns.jpg

Agra is 1 tiles from fresh water and sucking up some desert tiles. Good job mate. I guess, uh... he gets 2 hammers in the city center from settling on those Phats!

350AD (129):

ToA BIAFL and Saladin continues to inundate us with his missionaries. His latest target was Bulawayo. Thanks man!

Oh that ToA was built by Asoka. Seems he is wonder spamming as the wonder screen shows him with 4 wonders so far (out of the 6 built). Come on Monty!

The barb town has 3 archers in it, so glad we brought more troops.

We are somehow stable at 20% science now, lmao.

375AD (130):

It's the year of the Granary as Avar and Bulawayo both push one out. Liq put them on Auto Ikhanada's but whatever.

Umgun's archer is done, setting it towards "Grab Me". Going to put out an axe in case we get attacked by someone.

400AD (131):

Oh boy!

set5col.jpg

Notice that Monty and company will now trade Maths. When did that happen? Oh in the inturn.

So Monty and Asoka hate each other and Sally hates Monty. Sally is hated by no one but he has a big lead, so not keen on trading with him.

So dial up Asoka (hoping he will get killed by Monty) and do this deal.

set5asokatrade.jpg

Almost completely equal in value, yay. And Monty is not pissed at us over the trade.

Click to dial up Calendar and realize we don't have sailing yet and we just unlocked it with Fishing, arg lol.

Ok well we can broker sailing later, so it's really a toss up between Currency and Metal Casting so we have stuff to build. Civil takes a tad bit too long right now (30 turns!). Ah whatever, Liq is up, so just set it on Metal Casting (and let him worry about it). Forges are cheaper than markets, so it's really a toss up. We have both Ivory and Gems, so either or is an extra happy for us.

Settler done in Ulundi and dial up one more in case we want to settle the other filler town in the West.

Nobamba finished... something and gets on a courthouse. Whee, -70% total maintenance is sick. Can anyone say CEO Shaka?

Aryan's Granary is finished so get it in max growth mode while we dial a lazy Ikhanda.

Lars gets some XP beating down on one of the barb archers, so 2 to go.

:smoke: for the set. I built a farm near Avar on a riverside grass tile, and probably shouldn't have. But the town looks like production, so whatever.

We are still 0.7 with Monty so whew. Those Ikhandas count for a lot. Monty not yet in WHEOOH mode yet, boo.

Still lots of land to develop and plenty of worker abuse to go around!

Attachments

Liq queued granary and hax barracks because they are both half priced for shaka's agg/exp traits...:smoke:

As for hax barracks.. going from 0 to 20% is ok but 50% to 70% is hax and Court Houses were on the way.

The entire reason for grab me dot btw is to secure that gold for the happy. yeah it's got a ton of mountains, but it doesn't need to grow past size 1 to accomplish its goal main goal :p

Now that you mention it, we will have 2 more happy from forges due to grab me's gold and red's gems. I do not even recall gems getting happy from forges, to be honest, but not gonna complain.

Anyway, since half our total food appears locked up in 's it will be nice to have the additional happy cap before we unleash calendar.

So metal casting for the win, since cash is fine and we do not need to dumpster dive building wealth. 100% great scientist in 7 turns and thinking acad in red dot. Since also, the town is all set to whip its library, overflow to a courthouse will help, gonna turn science down to 0% as red is most of our commerce.

Will play tonight.

Cheers!
-Liq

Preturn:400 AD
Ok! Liq got the monster ultrapad notepad replacement from hell all powered up... swear the lights dimmed when the app went online.

So hemmed and hawed about science and figure red dot's library in 7 fits well with great scientist in 7 if an acad is in the cards... so slider to 0% and +15 gold a turn .... 111 in bank thou so right.

Metal casting in 27 isn't horrid considering.

Everything looks fine, sally is flooding missionaries with a passion as the turn's entertainment is train spotting the barb town of burgandy or whatever.

SnL-01400ADBarbwatch.jpg

Since pony town is never gonna be, those bananas two north of the barb town beat the elephants to the south, so screw nice spot. Just need to get overwhelming force set up on the barb town since Asoka is sniffing around.

Seems 9ish turns to get the settler from capital over to "grab me" on account it's crossing over about 62 rivers. The uber medic spear heads south to fog bust the area, lest another barb town pops.

Also gonna keep an eye on Ayran, the barb town in the north.

SnL-01400ADBarbculture-1.jpg

Going to be fighting Monty's culture there since he has a few turns of build time on us.

Hitting next turn, expect to see a red fist on monty any time now.

[1]425 AD
So next turn, everyone will trade sailing...no fists

Look around and sally is the only one without abc's, so.....

SnL-01425ADsallytrade.jpg

SnL-01425ADSailing.jpg

SnL-01425ADPoly.jpg

Got poly as filler but think we needed that for a bit later on...

So Asoka axe moves next to barb town and sally miss appears to be heading towards Asoka's land.

Seems we are pulling in 27 gold a turn all of a sudden... no idea how we gained 12ish gpt.

[2]450 AD
Barb town is down to one archer somehow, no idea how but it appears asoka axe killed it flawlessly or the barb disbanded it... WTH indeed either way. Time to get the bigman going at 93.8% odds...

SnL-01450ADBurganwtf.jpg

A sloppy 3.5 hp remaining on Todd, but good enough for 10/10 exp. Troops pile in more for the free beer than to get back in culture to save costs :p

So there goes the turn's entertainment.

We are down to 22 gold a turn at 0%... easy come easy go.

Oh damn, looks like Asoka went Buddhist though still worst enemy of Monty.

Appears the town close to Aryan has three turns culture on our town.. monument wise. gonna need to pile in some religion there to get a leg up.

[3]475 AD
Quiet turns, only lost 1 gpt.

SnL-01475ADTodd.jpg

Oh damn, forgot to give Bigman Todd his title! Silver will catch that.

[4]500 AD
Aryan pops its borders in the fight to keep its fp's!

umgun finishes an axe, going to push out a bud missionary to get Aryan going, before going back to axes.

[5]520 AD
Monty comes demanding gems...

SnL-01520ADcanhasgems.jpg

sure man sure.

Sally took out the barb town south west of "grab me" finally.

SnL-01520ADSallybarbbust.jpg

Find out later he kept it and sadly, that's one of his better towns.

[6]540 AD
Anaszi/red dot goes to 7 population with an unhappy but new sources of happy soon so not stressing.

The Barb town Todd took goes out of revolt and back down to 16 gold a turn.

[7]560 AD
OW, red dot/anaszi gets the slave revolt event and we have to take the 1 turn of revolt and painful -2 population.

SnL-01560ADRedsSlaveRevolt-1.jpg

Ow Ow Ow. Red going off line leaves us -1 gold per turn at 0% slider rofl. ok well yeah, 302 in bank, we can weather it.

Red dot did finish its library though and we popped a great scientist.

SnL-01560ADWerner.jpg

4 turns to get to red for the academy but it bulbs phil... and Tao isn't taken. Let's ask the Oracle...

"i would bulb because it's not like our beakers anywhere are great ATM"

Ok bulb it is silver!

SnL-01560ADPhil.jpg

We nab Tao and the Era change is nice as well.

Where does Tao land?

SnL-01560ADRedtao.jpg

Note the giant red fist of approval.

Figures. The slaves were really rioting for joy on finding Tao in someone's attic. What a bizarre 'turn' of events...... (p.intended)

One of the two best locations to land Tao for sure as red and izzy dots are our designated commerce whores.

The free Tao miss goes to Ayran to help out the culture war. Glad Monty doesn;t have Sally's Madrassa UB.

Settler finally gets to "grab me" and uh...

SnL-01580ADkwahahaha.jpg

Silver said to just call it kwahahaha.

That's about 7 gpt there but the town is connected to trade already... need to mine that gold but it being a desert hill is going to take twice as long. For all the crap moutains, it's a nice spot as it has fresh water and fishies for food.

red dot is out of riot hell so jack up science to 100% for 4 turns on metal casting... 80% nets it in 4 as well though so do that.

[9]600 AD
Avar, the little town that could (orange dot) builds its hax barracks, leaving it without direction... it needs to grow, slowly, so place it on a forever axe.

Really not looking forward to plunking down marginal dot.

[10]620 AD
So more boring, thank goodness.

Was gonna hand it off here but need to swap civics.

to hred and caste as slavery's days are kaput with our food situation. Same 21 gpt cost, one turn of anarchy. Should have revolted when red was rioting :smoke:

[11]640 AD
We get back from our anarchy, 70% science gets casting in 2 still so save some gold only to pop...

SnL-01660ADMarginal.jpg

Yeah back where we started financially. Least the Name is pronounceable! Monty was sniffing around the area a bit too much not to snap it up.

Trade Sally wine for one of our gems, should have done that a while ago... helps with relations at least.

[12]660 AD
Lots of growing in these turns.. good. The land we have is rich but it takes time and techs to get it up to par as we are swimming in food neutral tiles and calendar resources. So many effing rivers it's crazy.

Sally is running another few buddy missionaries our way, to Asoka looks like.

[13]680 AD

Finally, start on a forge in Capital since once calendar comes in, mass food for that town.

3 more towns grow and bug tells me 3 more next turn. king of the jungle belt baby.... if Monty doesn;t go er... Monty on us hehe.

The economy is officially tanked... need to run 0% for +9 gold a turn but if turns remain quiet on our end, things only will get better.

Think 2 turns left on Monty's gem demand... be sure to remove that and hope he demands it back. bug has a little peace symbol to the left of his name in the score list.

Keep an eye out on trading for Currency. Sally has it but isn't trading. Since we put the whip away, towns are slowly growing every turn. The managers have no idea how to work this land of green, enjoy the micro only to have it ruined next growth cycle.

Oh, rename Todd!

Cheers!

PS ug, server stalled just as I was about to attach save and post.

Bah, long day and haven't had a chance to really look at it in detail. From the save though...

1) We need military
2) We need courthouses

So looks like I'll be balancing those two needs when I play tomorrow. Monty still has yet to go nuts on anyone, but hopefully he chooses Asoka after he was dumb enough to convert to the wrong religion (doubtless because we OB with Sally and he flooded missionaries to Asoka; note that we don't really have as many converted cities). If that antagonizes Monty into action, the OB will look brilliant.

And yeah, Sailing got us connected to Sally's trade network, so our routes went external. I think...

3) We need more Shaka's "Humiliation":king:

4) See about opening borders with people since we are done expanding....

5) Is Monty considered people?

6) Take your time.

More Seriously.. I have no idea how long calendar is going to take but Capital's forge was sorta placeholder. It really is only needed for when those bananas go online and the town is growing again, not before. Actually, if capital is spamming workers, it's not going to grow into unhappy so imo stall the forge.

As of turn 0: Worker is 4 turns, axe is 3 Forge is 11ish. Workers going to be much faster with plantations on those bananas, so I would just keep spamming axes.

Play til calendar regardless.

Cheers!

680AD (144):

So praying that Monty goes to war with the he-she effed ess, er... I mean Asoka, soonish. Noticed that caps are free due to Liq trading wine and getting HR, so going to see if I can beef up city sizes somewhat with some micro.

So end up firing a few scientists in places except Nobamba (on account of no other improved tiles to work) and Calendar plunges to 35 turns, erk. Well we need a lot of work to fix that, so getting on it.

Switch Ulundi over to 3 turn workers to help our sad statistic.

+9gpt at 0% science, lol.

Notice that our southern scouting archer is beside a barb sword, he's probably dead.

700AD (145):

Yep, archer is dead but at least that saves us gold as our finances lurch to +14gpt.

Nobamba finishes a courthouse, so most of the cash savings are probably from that. Dial up a worker as we have nothing going on in this place.

The bulk of our army is auto-pathing to Aryan in case Monty red fists spring up.

720AD (146):

Chicken Pizza is built far away, as umgunlovu spits out an axe. Tempted to dial a forge but health here is not the greatest, so just go for the courthouse. Axe is going to hang out down here because Sally actually has the best power rating.

Aryan finishes it's haxrax, and nothing builds fast, so just going to put it on more culture to help against Monty. Bud temple sounds good, as the AI is obviously going to beat us to the AP, and it's not bloodly likely they'll be Taoist when they do so :P.

740AD (147):

Peace ends with Monty as Asoka immediately shows up and demands we cancel deals with Monty :smoke:. Yeah, sure take a hike.

Anyways, cancel the gems to Monty and hope he demands them back.

Shaka's "Vexation" pops from Ulundi and we dial up a forge. Vexation heading to Nobamba to give it some serious help.

760AD (148):

The he-she shows up and asks for OB, uh no thanks, would rather not have Monty diplo hits.

780AD (149):

Still no red fists!

Workers slowly moving west (not that there is a shortage of work, just a shortage of workers).

800AD (150):

Avar pops their axeman and temporarily moves us to 0.7 with Monty before falling back to 0.6, doubtless due to Monty troop spam.

Looks like Aryan is slowly winning the culture fight against Monty.

set6culturefight.jpg

Was 54% ours I think before.

So with Avar's axe done, we leave him there as that's where we want him, and dial for a courthouse.

Town of Kwahaha growing next turn, oh boy!

820AD (151):

set6lotsofcash.jpg

Haha, nice.

Then Saladin shows up offering a bag of cash and currency for MC. He wasn't trading before, so take the deal for sure, as it's a major economic shot in the arm for us.

set6sallycurrencytrade.jpg

We gain like 10gpt, probably time to turn up the slider again.

Jack science to 100%, losing 90gpt, for Calendar in 3. We have enough to sustain 2 turns of this, so will do it.

Shaka's "Frustration" pops from Nobamba, but we already set Vexation here, so move him west. Hammers are pretty poor here, so hum, dial for an Impi because folks are making intimidating remarks about their horse archers.

The currency trade means we pass up Monty in points, heh.

Asoka will give us Masonry for 85 gold, meh sure. It will open up more trades, so do it. so much for unsustainable Calendar.

set6asokamasonry.jpg

Notice that the effing governor of Nongoma (filler dot) assigned a friggen artist to the town this turn, WTH? Fire the artist and get back onto the dyes.

840AD (152):

BUg helpfully alerts me that Asoka will trade Mono and Con. Thanks, as if I wasn't going to check myself.

set6asokaconstruction.jpg

He originally asked for Phil straight up for Con (haha) but got him to do this.

Need a few turns to build up some cash to finish Calendar I guess.

Note from the tech screen that Asoka has Theo, assuming it was him who founded Christ a few turns back, can only mean good things with his wonder whoring.

Kwahaha grew to size 2 and is costing us 7.1gpt maint; do not really feel like growing this town before we can get more infra up, so put the new citizen on the newly hooked up gold and we're good to go.

860AD (153):

Saladin adopts Vassalage :/. No red fists yet so no idea.

A bunch of towns grew this turn, including filler dot, where the governor helpfully tried to hire another artist spec :smoke:. Stupid governor.

880AD (154):

Three more towns pop (wooo) and still no red fists! Do a micro pass because I probably managed to screw something up. Well, no earth-shattering problems discovered so far!

Can get Calendar next turn and drain the gold, so going to do that and pass the game off. OMG I hogged 11 turns O.o :P.

900AD (155):

set6calendar.jpg

Nobamba's Impi pops so set it on a Cat. Can never have too many of those.

Set tech on an ugly Civil for now. Subject to change, but don't think anyone has civil yet. Whatever.

No red fists! And Monty did not demand anything!
