I loaded my limited version of civ III and when I tried to open the game, my screen went haywire. I dont know if its my resolution, refresh rate or what. I managed to alt+ctrl+del and have the task manager come up. I shut civ down from there, but I did notice that when that happened, the pixel ratio was different from what I have it set on for my win interface/desktop/whatever you call it. I dont know what to do about it...

Hmm, when Civ3 starts up, the first thing it does is switch your screen resolution to 1024x768. I don't recall the default frequency it uses. 70Hz?

You can try adding this line to your civiliztion.ini file:
KeepRes=1
which preserves your current screen resolution.

Edit: It might also help to add
PlayIntro=0
to prevent the intro movie from playing, as well. (Just in case that's part of the problem.)

I just tried with no luck... but here's something else. I noticed that I can have other programs running just fine. I can alt+tab between them and the image is normal. But when I switch to Civ, Ive got madness. Another thing: the title bar on my start menu lists the names of the programs I've got running. For the civ one, the icon is blank (kind of like whenever you delete a file but not the link/shortcut/whatever - it shows up as a blank white file symbol). And... I noticed that through the choas, the screen that keeps flickering by at 3000 mi/hr is not the civ intro movie or even the home screen, its my windows background (some goofy paradise scene).

When I first loaded it, I tried to put the files in a place where Ive got my other games (to keep things cleaned up on my computer). It didn't work so I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling using the default file location they suggest. Still, nothing.

By the way, when I add a line to my civ...ini file, do I have to capitalize? do I start a new line and press enter? do I have to tab like you do in visual basic?
