So does it seem that Civ3 players love Civ5 and Civ4 players hate it?

I'm thinking that this new civ 5 Gods and King is going to put it on the map and make Civ 5 sound much better. I am thinking and hoping that will happen.

I liked 3, 4 to a lesser extent, and 5.
I though 4's UI was garish, but really really want those wonder videos to return.

I played a lot of Civ 3, (but I much preferred Alpha Centauri).

I preferred Civ IV over Civ III by far, and yet I like Civ V better than IV from a gameplay perspective.

Civ 4 was really awesome when it was released. Civ 5 was completely broken, and missed almost all the features old civ players expected from a Civ game.

They are catching up now though with the expansion.

Lets hope Civ 6 have more features at release than Civ 5 had...
And lets hope it dosnt crash on large+ maps all the time as Civ 5 did for more than a year before getting patched... ;)

I loved Civ 3, and I loved Civ 5 right upon the pickup of the game. I didn't have the same experience with Civ 4 at all. I felt that a lot of the combat took a very long time to understand, and that religion muddled up diplomacy. Once I understood it, it was fine, but it had a large learning curve and I still didn't understand it well. I really disliked corporations as well. Civ 5 had the same pick-up fun Civ 3 had.

hmm my first civ was civ 4, when civ 5 first came out i disliked it so much, but now? im positively addicted :D

I loved Civ3, loved Civ4, and Civ5 is at best meh. I still play Civ4 a lot more than Civ5. (I really should reinstall Civ3 and give it a whirl.)

Back when Civ4 was released, numerous people felt that it was completely broken and the worst of the series. I still enjoyed it, but I think four only became great with the BTS expansion and I preferred Civ3 until that point.

But in general I find it pretty hard to pick a favourite version of the series. I enjoyed them all when I played them, and there's no version that I feel didn't offer anything noteworthy or interesting. The one I played the most was Civ1 on the Atari ST, but I was a teen then, so spare time was available in larger quantities, as was unlimited enthusiasm. :)
