So, does Linux ever get hit by OS problems?

While Ubuntu may sound like a Zairean Askari warlord, it looks quite friendly as an interface, and it is open-source... I am wondering if that linux OST (or any other) realistically need any internet security dl or not (i read that they do not).

Any users who can share their ubundant knowledge?

You were close, with Ubuntu - per wikipedia, it was "named after the Southern African philosophy of ubuntu (literally, "human-ness")".

Do any Linux distros need AV? Hmmm... Are you running as root? Are you running javascript or flash in your browser?

I think they have their own analogous program or something (?). I can play things like YT videos, but iirc the routines for those came with Ubuntu itself :)

Well, at work, we use several Linux distributions as our workstation OS, including RHEL6 and Ubuntu. We do have an antivirus installed and there are very strict security countermeasures. My guess is that for the average user, an antivirus for linux is not a necessity, for enterprises is better to have all of your bases covered.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I would like to say I'm against all forms of virus scanners. Virusscanners may pose a security risk themselves by giving false positives to critical files.
