I just like to play the games I don't know what makes them work.
I am going to get a new video card under $100 if possible.I also think I will need more RAM (dirty so and so's from T2 and firaxis upped the RAM req for XP 3 days after I bought the game). So would my money be better spent on Radeon or Nvidia or something else?

Buy an nVidia geForece FX5500 from newegg.com

also buy 512mb extra ram.

that would run you ~$106

pm me if you need links

With all the video problems you may want something newer.

Since we don't know what your computer specs are I will take a blind stab at it.

Assuming you only have AGP I would suggest the mid level cards. ATI & Nvidia has decent cards from $200.00-300.00. If money is the issue then I would look at $200.00 cards. $100.00 cards are not worth it. It is throwing good money after bad. Make it hurt a little bit...wait a few weeks if you have to to get enough money up. You will thank yourself later.

Nvidia 6600 series is decent. ATI has the X800pro for $200.00. These are close to "list". You can find them cheaper if you search. Stay away from Nvidia's 5XXX series.

I myself use a ATI X800XL.(I have PCIe) I paid $300.00. It works wonderful. Not the latest greatest...but on the higher end in performance.( I am not paying $400.00-$600.00 on a video card that in a year will be a third of that price. ) I am sure you can get that card cheaper now too. It is similar in performace to the Nvidia 6800GT.

Check online. Read Circuit Ciy's and Bestbuy's websites for info. some times you can get a decent deal there too. If you find a card you like then do a Google Review on it. Just type in the model number and the word REVIEW after it and do some reading. You will learn allot from that. That is how I bought my video card, monitor,HDTV,etc.

This is sad that a game is giving all this grief. You should be able to play this darn game with the specs you have on that Dim 2400. Silly Sid and Gang should come out with a patch for all HIS loyal Civilization users.

Now a regular PCI slot card should do the trick for you pretty easily. On any other game I would suggest the (I hate to say it) Nvidia 5700 PCI...only because there is not allot of options for PCI cards. But then again people are having trouble with that series...so it baffles me.

Instead of me trying to take a "stab" at it....I will suggest the Dell Community Forums. There are better minds then I there. Register there and take a peak. First Search...some of the Gurus there are a little stuffed shirted about people that do not search first. (They get real tired of the same question over and over: My Dim 2400 won't play games...what AGP card do I buy?" :D) I am not saying you are asking that. Also many of these Gurus are pretty good at all types of computers. Dell is pretty open to anyone asking just about any type computer set-up.

When it comes to Dell systems though...these Gurus are the best and will have some good ideas. I have learned allot there. I have three Dell systems and they have helped me with mine over the years. There is one guy that "I" think is the brightest. His nick is: "ejn". He has been around for years. He is lightyears past anything I would know.

Hope this helps some.

That is the card I bought today at Best Buy for $80. I upgraded from an Intel Integrated Extreme Graphics chip. Everything works fine now (no more black terrain).

Not sure what you have, but if you have an nVidia now, don't be quick to buy new. I have a Geforce 5900, my wife a 5600, and we have severe video problems. We should be able to handle the game and then some, but something seems wrong with leaders and city screens (memory leak?) to cause us both problems. I myself and hoping for a fix.

If you have some sort of ancient card, then I would suggest an nVidia, but nothing that begins with a 5 (which seem to have video problems right now). I've had nothing but good experiences with nVidia and I think a nice 6600 or higher would do you a world of good. I've never had a Radeon, but I've heard of more than one problem with them, and not just in this game.

That's my two cents.
