So...is it worth trying to watch the Game of Thrones series?

It seems the writers of the series might even have started with the premise that there was Peter Dinklage, so the thing could be done.I must say that Peter Dinklage is very very VERY good in this role and series.. In fact by far my favorite in the cast.

Well, i am not big on fantasy lit (at least anything other than some Dunsanian stuff). The series looks cool, but i think the actual text would be unlikely to be enjoyed by myself. I'll keep watching the series though
Funny, for my it is the complete opposite. I'm not a fan of fiction writing at all but I've made this series the one exception.
Anyway, I think the 5 Lannister family members are the best actors in the series. Headly as Cersei, Nikolai as Jaime, Charles Dance as Tywin, Dinklage as Tyrion, and Gleeson as Joffrey.
Not sure about Joffrey and Cersei. They seem more like one-dimensional (Joffrey maybe leaning towards none-dimensional..at least in the series i've seen up to now).
Bean and Lady Stark are good. I have to note that an unusual number of female characters in this series happen to look amazing
(Lady Tyrell most of all).

On Joffrey in particular I think you're underestimating the skill required to play such a horrible person so convincingly.

I've heard good things about Natalie Dormer from her previous series The Tudors. I've been meaning to watch that.
I have to say that the ending of Season 2 Episode 7 is really the best ending i have seen by now in any tv series. Even the music is perfect. The final expression of Theon is also extremely moving.
(i know what happens after that, but that ending still is the highlight by now for me).
