So, No Britain?

so...Great Britain is in, it has a unique leader from Great Britain, Ed talked how they are not finished with British civs and more is coming...and people are still unhappy. I swear...
first chance we ever have for a civ that’s more geographically balanced and not deeply eurocentric and ppl are going to bully firaxis into spamming brit content because they can’t handle women or scientists or anything that isn’t their dream of england led by richard the lionheart, queen victoria, queen elizabeth, admiral nelson, charles darwin, lord byron, charles dickins, francis drake, walter raleigh, king arthur, and alfred the great

So, if the French Empire gets a stereotypical Wine starting bias. Does that mean Great Britain gets Sheep? Tea?
tea doesn’t make sense cuz great britain didn’t naturally have it, they stole it. that’s the whole point.

Is it such a terrible thing that i didnt want to pay an extra £30.00 to play them?
and i didn’t want to have to do that to play genghis khan and mongolia, shaka zulu and zulu or hammurabi and babylon in civ 6.

just because a civ is *your fave* or *the most important to you* does not mean it’s more entitled to being in the base game. Firaxis has been trying to phase out the implication that any civ is traditionally safe from its main game for multiple series now. in civ 8 it might be india or china or japan, but its obvious that they’re not operating under the assumption that any civ is any more naturally deserving of being in the base game, and there’s more core series civs than slots in base games these days (i can name at least 25 that people would consider necessary to a complete civ game)—and civ 7 requires more obscure entries to make the game philosophy work.

Ok, you have got a reason in your head why they have left Britain from the base game. That is cool, i disagree with you. I think they left Britain until DLC in order to make more money from DLC sales. But it is fine to disagree on their reasons

What i don't understand is why you think there is anything wrong with people being disappointed that they cannot play the civ they have always played in the base game without paying extra.
Having 'reasons' for it happening doesn't invalidate peoples right to feel disappointed.

there’s nothing wrong with being disappointed by a civ being excluded—but many major civs have been excluded, both in the past and in this game.

you don’t see fans of the ottomans or byzantines spamming threads about how they feel like firaxis is trying to get their money. hell, the byzantine fans were kept on the ropes in civ 6 until the very last moment and STILL didn’t complain this much even though Britain is literally the first DLC civ to be added

so yes, it *is* a question of entitlement. Everyone can be disappointed that their favorite civ isn’t in the base game. but if you think your favorite civ is *more* deserving of being in the base game, you’re literally the reason they can afford to leave it out in civ 7. And when you complain that the leader and play style aren’t *exactly* what you hoped, you want them to cater just for you. If everyone was disappointed about their favorite civ being missing, then this forum would be a nightmare. Some ppl are still yet to see their favorite civs ever be in the game at all.

if spending $30 to play as your favorite civ is something you’re willing to do, more power to you, but as you noted, they’re only doing this because they know you’ll be willing to do this, so perhaps you’re *too* invested in playing as one specific civ. My favorite civ is in the game for the first time and i might not even buy it.

civs feel less meaningful when they only last 1/3 of the game anyway

...she recognized the potential of the babbage machine over 100 years before it ever got built, it can’t be understated how much she influenced development of modern society. she’s a great pick for an industrial era scientist, and an industrial scientist is a great choice for great britain
I kind of love that one of our scientific leaders so clearly researched 'Future Tech' given the way it works in CiVII. Science points and bonus progress to technologies from the next era!

i think that’s part of what makes her so good for civ—she looked at science the way civ looked at science

This might as well be the something special that FXS is trying with Lovelace: can research some select techs from the next era already. Although I can see all kinds of practical problems with this one…

if it’s not what they have in mind, i can already see it being the focus of mod reworks

You could have just stopped at 'its ok to be disappointed' .

Family bought me the dlc / expansion content for 6 and 5 as presents, i didn't buy it myself and i cant really remember whether i paid for 1/2/3/4 or if they were bought for me in all honesty.
Its an obvious present choice when nephews / nieces buy for me as they know i play civ.

I probably would not have bought the passes for 6 if i had been paying.

I wont pay £60.00 for a base game and £30.00 for a couple of leaders and a few civs, its not value for money in my mind and the modes i enjoy playing are not available yet anyway, i mostly like to play earth maps or huge maps.
I will look to pick it up later, when there are better map options, when the modders have done their thing and hopefully when i can get a base game/dlc bundle at a better price.

I can afford the £90.00, but right now i dont see enough civ paths/features that i am interested in. I don't know if there will ever be enough civs to play logical progressions for them all from antiquity to modern - i know it doesn't matter at all to a lot of players who play primarily for mechanics.

i can respect this, its the same reason im holding off for now as well—i just think its fundamentally different to be complaining about the cost/benefit versus the fact that *specifically britain* is locked behind it

Being able to research techs later in the tree without needing the prerequisite techs could achieve the same effect? Would be somewhat naturally balanced already similar to Bablyon in Civ 6 where you risk being unable to support your advanced units and then easily artificially balanceable on top of that with increased science costs.

or you start with 2-3 techs researched each era, which is big cuz it gives you a head start but not unbalanced because it depends on which ones/and it’s fairly easy to catch up with early advantages

Eh ?? Whit Is this not the first perhaps 2nd time ? britain is in the game
Technically it's the first time. All other iterations have been called England, though some attributes of them were overtly British Empire flavored like most of Civ 6. Of course, then we got a mostly British Empire flavored Scotland as well last iteration. I now fully expect English, Scottish, and Welsh cities on the city-list.

Well it’s either the first time or it’s not , no technically about it .
And no sure what a Be flavoured Scotland is?
re Civ switching hopefully when the new age is released the switch from GB is into England or Scotland

Not sure if you played Civ 6 or not, but Scotland had Scottish Enlightenment as their unique ability and Highlander units based off of the British Regiments. Robert the Bruce as leader was the only thing about them designed before the union of the crowns.

I think it's more likely that an Exploration England or Exploration Age Scotland goes into Modern Age Great Britain. I don't see this as confirmation of a new 4th age.
