So what's up with the super ugly rivers?

I dont think they're ugly. I just think they are very uniform, which makes it look very unnatural.

There's nothing graphically amazing in this compared to Civ4. The botching of things like rivers will be fixed we hope, because it is clearly not as intended. Sometimes you'll have a resource like horses appear on a coastline and half the horses are sat on the ocean - that should get a fix too. Hopefully yields will be made translucent like they were in Civ4, to prevent my eyes bleeding.

Overall it's ok, it's just not as graphically amazing as people made it out to be. Especially the interface ;-/ Thank god combat is a hundred times more fun

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks graphics is not good.
Seriously, I find it quite hideous. And music too. It´s just a big ugly confusing mess.
Game mechanics is OK. I am a great fan of Civ series so please, modders, do something quickly....

The rivers look the way they do to fit in with the art deco style. I'm not a fan either, but its very much deliberate and I would be surprised if they changed it.

Wait, you guys play Civ for pretty rivers?

I'm really enjoying the graphics, I feel they are far more CivIII inspired than CivIV. I really didn't like the graphics in CivIV, i felt they went half-way and stopped, because of requirements. These graphics however, take a style on their own -- they don't try too hard to be 3D (who cares, after all?) and, in all, look fantastic.

I was surprised the rivers looked exactly the same (or worse) than the preview shots months back too. Never mind though, if Firaxis doesn't fix it I'm sure there'll be a mod for it at some point. Luckily for them they can rely on an active community to fix their mistakes for them.

I definitely don't play Civ for the graphics (you'd cry if you saw how the game looks on my six-year-old Dell Dimension), but the pasted-on look of those river deltas is always jarring. It's not so much that the game's graphics are the most important thing - they're not - but that there's such a weird inconsistency between the rivers and the rest of the landscape.
