So which is more addictive, Civ4 or WoW?

MMO's are high in number and can give a player alot in differnt types of games - fantasy, war, horror...etc

but civ is only 1 and its abilities are limited

yet i still think civ rules :)

CIV is no less thematically customizable than a MMORPG.

Online play of CIV is still a bit weak compared to MMORPGs, IMHO.

Take it to the Sims!: Civ? That's something I buy my avatar to satisfy their boredom. How much does a game designer career make?

Take it to WoW: There's PvP, but no leveling? There's no 'foreign' farming, but no quest drops? I don't like the instanced dungeon maps.

i think someone should really post this on a WoW site then after a week bring results back here.
then we see what they think, thats if they know what civ is lol...

I am surprised a moderator didn't come in and smack the folks going off topic about music yet. Anyway, I never played WoW before and never will (not going to pay monthly fees for a game). Though I have played EVE: The 2nd Genesis when it was in beta a while back. Beautiful graphics for a sci-fi theme set in space, so that MMO gets kudos for that. I know it's not WoW, but MMO's tend to have the same trends. It can certainly be addicting and can make online friends while playing them. The gameplay isn't my cup of tea, truthfully. Spending hours upon hours simply levelling and trying to find those awesome items get rather old (and had my fill with my time playing Diablo 2). With Civ IV, I can play at my own pace without the mad rush to play it for endless hours out of the week. Even the PvP aspect of WoW is unappealing because when I have the urge to play something similar, I'll fire up a good FPS game like America's Army, Call of Duty 2, or some mod for Half-Life 2 and have a couple hours of entertainment.

Which is more addictive Civ or Wow?

It depends on your personality, but WoW has the potential to consume your existence, Civ does not.

I played WoW for about two years from Dec 2004 and racked up well over 100 days played. Yep, thats about 3 hours a day on average every single day for two years. While (somehow and barely) holding down a full time job in professional services. And there are many many people that play much more than that.

Gran Turismo 3 and Civ 3 were two of my all time favourite games. Both had sequels come out during my WoW phase and in both cases I bought the sequels and played them for under 4 hours before going back to WoW.

WoW becomes a microsm of society, you deal with avatars of real people which gives the game a depth far beyond anything Civ has to offer. Because it is real time and multiplayer there is a compulsion for players to participate or be left behind. In Civ if I don't feel like playing I save game and go to bed. In WoW you don't have that option. There are 40 players in a raid and 39 other people depend on you turning up and doing your job day in day out whether you want to be there at that time or not. I'm not quite sure what attracted me to WoW because right now I get bored of the game very very fast.

It was common to see people on WoW who had taken sick days or holidays just to play the game all day. With my 100 days played that is what? 400-600 full marathon games of Civ over two years?

WoW is more addictive than Civ by far, but that's not to say it is more fun :crazyeye:
