So, will I be able to run this game?

Okay, I went to canyourunit.com, and I got these results (failed)...

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/analysis.aspx

The thing is, I will be getting a "decent video card" from my friend for only $20 dollars (he says it will be more than enough for this game) and I will be getting enough RAM for the game also. With these extra things I will be buying to upgrade my computer with, do you think it will be just enough to run it? Thanks for your advice.

EDIT: Oops, I guess the link doesn't take you to my results. The areas I fail in are RAM, video card, and CPU speed. I'll have the video card and RAM needed eventually. Do you think the CPU speed would matter that much?

whats your cpu?
whats the card you are getting?
will you be getting 4gb of ram in total?

without these answers we cant help you.

Whats your cpu? It does matter what you have, but this site has been failing people who have the recommended cpu. I was failed for the new Final Fantasy game, it says it needs and i7 @ 2.66 and I have an i7 @3.80(stock 2.80) so its kind of hit or miss.

Yes, knowing the actual specs of the "decent card" will be helpful. :) It will need a good card, and $20 sounds like awfully little money for a decent card (in terms of Civ5).

The CPU isn't unimportant, which is why they recommend a quad core CPU (doesn't mean it is needed, but gives you an idea of the importance).

For a turn-based strategy game, the system requirements aren't all that low. But that wasn't different for Civ4 when it came out.

I also failed it since canyourunit.com said i didn't have a duo core processor, which I do have.

Also the see the speed as lower then it actually is. No idea what they are doing, they've been more accurate in the past.

Still my PC will be hard pressed to run Civilization, but I'm looking forward to a new system this Fall.

Er, okay... Well, I just contacted my friend, and his friend isn't selling his card anymore. So, how about I tell you what I do have already.

CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz (pass)
CPU Speed: 2.79 GHz (fail)
RAM: 1022.1 MB (fail) (will try to get at least 2 GB, but can I run it regardless?)
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600) (pass)
Video Card: RADEON X600 (0x5B62) (passed video RAM and Hardware T&L, failed Pixel Shader Version 3.0 and Vertex Shader version 3.0). I have 256 MB for video RAM, I have only 2.0 for the Pixel and Vertex Shaders.
Direct X Version: 9.0c (pass)
Sound Card: SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC (pass)
Free Disk Space: 141.8 GB (pass)

Your processor speed is fine, but it needs to be at least dual core.

You need a minimum of 2gb of RAM, so no it wont run regardless.

Your video card is WAY underpowered and definitely wont work. For ATI, you need a minimum Radeon HD 2600 XT, which your card is about 36 versions earlier.

Sorry, there is absolutely no way you can play CiV 5 with that system.

the sticky at the top of the forum in this section mentions you need at least sp3 which you should do anyway since it makes your OS safer.

for ram you really need the 2 minimum and in your case probably 3 since the 32 bit OS wont fully utilize 4 gb anyway.

your cpu is a single core cpu so thats also below minimum specs.

the graphics card also wont run it since it lacks the need functions to to run the game.

the things that is up to par is basicly the amount of hdd space you have.

with your current pc you wont be able to run the game.

Your Processor might be ok, since it is a dual core at least. But you will need at LEAST 2GB of ram (I's still get 4) and a vid card upgrade, that ones way too old.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't have dual core. He needs to buy a new computer if he wants to play CiV 5. He can't even upgrade that one to meet the requirements.

his cpu ( yes it a single core ) got released in 2002 so most likely its a late '02 or a '03 pc so that makes it at least 7 years old and that's old for any pc with innovation speed in the pc market.

here is a Link for his cpu

you could use your pc as a workstation but for just about any current game you will run into problems.

Yepp. this is a pretty hopeless case. Not much point in upgrading (does it even has PCIe?). You might be able to salvage HDD, optical drive and windows licence.

With a bit of luck (and lots of patience) the CPU might be able to run Civ5. The chance that you can upgrade the CPU is pretty slim (check the mainboard manufacturers website).
1 GB RAM will with a high probability not be sufficient. But you could test this out with the demo ... if it weren't for the fact that the video card will positively absolutely not work, as Civ5 NEEDS a card with Shader Model 3. And i would wager that it is still DDR1, which has become rare (and expensive).
The video card will not do, as mentioned. At the very least you would need a 6800GT, 7600GT or X1800 series (optimistically speaking), if you are looking for cheap used cards.

Contrary to some comments, the CPU is, after the harddrive, the part closes to the minimum requirements. It's a Pentium D, as in Pentium 4 Dual Core, which would be be roughly aquivalent to a 1.4 GHz Core2Duo.

Okay, well, thanks for the help everybody. I guess I'll just have to save $800 to $1,000 over the next few months to make a much better computer. It saddens me that I'll have to skip this game for a while, when it's only four days away.

Hold on....whoa...whoa... You might be okay. If you can find out the model of motherboard then let us know. We need to see what this thing is capable of holding. Also, find out the wattage on your power supply and let us know. You'll need to open up the computer to find out these things most likely....or if you have the make and model number of the computer itself then we can find out.
