As a corrollary to my previous post about moving the F.P., if you dont like nukes in your game, and you dont want to mod the rules, here's what you need to do:

Be the civ that builds the Manhattan Project, and abandon that city. Since this is a G.W., it cannot be rebuilt, and since it doesnt exist anymore, no one will be able to build nukes.

Slick.

But why waste the time building the MP when I can just mod it into an Internet Wonder that produces more commerce?

Without a Quick Response option to a nuclear First Strike I'll never allow nukes.

I dont either. But i was thinking of the contest on this site for the Highest Score achieved. One of the rules states that you cannot mod your rules. So the only way to submit an entry for this contest without violating the rules and while not allowing nukes to ruin your game is the aforementioned suggestion.

If a city can manage to build the Manhattan Project first, would it not have to be a reather strong city and since being as strong as it is, would it not be a waste?

Zouave always seems to love mentioning his thoughts on the Manhattan Project and his Internet Wonder, he must really feel very strongly about it. But Zouave, please stop mentioning your Internet Wonder , I've read about it on the forum so many times just in this one week!

build a settler, then a new city, then use a leader for manhattan. then abandon it... then u dont waste a huge city

of course, u waste a leader but it might be worth it....

Just hoard all of the uranium. If the Germans or the Persians can't get their hands on it, there's no worry :)

does that actually work though? doesn't building the mh just give you the ability (or should i say the knowledge) to make them, but the mh doesn't have to survive to build the nukes?

Well, I figure it is like Darwin's Theory of Evolution, after you build the wonder, you get the free advances. If an invading army razes the city, you still keep the advances.

I personally think making the Manhattan Project allowing all civilizations to build the bomb is kind of weak. They say that the reason is that when the US developed the bomb the Soviets stole the secrets for it to help their own program, hence allowing everyone to have it. I think it is unrealistic in that A) we would have the had the bomb exclusively (for a while) if it were not for espionage and B) not all nations have the bomb today even though the info is out there. IMHO I think that if other nations want the bomb they have to steal it from you under Espionage or you can give it to them like Russians did the Chinese. But the way the wonder is now I wonder (no pun intended) if rm and andy are right in that once you build the Manhattan Project it lets the cat out of the bag as so far as other nations building the bomb goes.

no, the existence of the M.P. is tied to the world's ability to make nukes. destroy the wonder and no one can make em. i've tried it and this is fact.

This doesn't work, I tried it. Built city, built Man. Project, razed city. After I got the other prerequisites for nukes, I could still build them.

In my current game, I have edited out nukes...I just don't like them...they give me the 'willies'. I changed the Manhattan Project to 'reduces war wearines'. This should make for the ablity to carry on a war under Democracy a bit longer. It will also prevent the Aztecs from nuking me for no apparent reason (except that I was winning) in 2040 ad.

I've never abandoned my city with the MP in it, but have razed the AI city that built it - I could still build nukes after its destruction.

Two other things that are problems with the MP.

Use of nukes produces just plain pollution - not the much worse radiation pollution with both immediate and long-term effects.

And here's another weird thing. Dropping a nuke on a city does not even come close to destroying the city or killing everyone. But a single damaged unit can "raze" that city causing it to instantly and totally vanish along with its entire population. :crazyeye: It's absurd.

DUDE!!! THINK ABOUT IT! BE FRIENDS W/ EVERONE AND THEY WOULDN"T HAVE TO NUKE YOU!!!!!!!!!
:vomit:

Not only is this inpractical it is also untrue. I was winning by space ship in like 18 something. I was gracious with the two remaingin civs. But somebody (It was a long time ago) nuked me and sent a stack of like 50 tanks into my territory. Luckily these tanks werent upgraded to modern armor yet (he had the tech I dont know why he didnt upgrade.)so I nuked the stack with a tactical killed it with my tanks and used my Icbms to put him in the stone age. And just to be safe I put the other guy in the stone age too:lol: . Close shave to get my ship up though.

It might not have been such a close call if you wern't building so many ICBM's.

I agree with mauiduck in all that he said. If you built it the others would have to steal the info from you to be able to build it, or you could give it to them. This is something Firaxis should have thought about

I just modded it into an Internet Wonder.

But in my revised mod I added the MP back in, but it, and all nulcear weapons, are more expensive.

Maybe that will limit the distastefuil casual OVERUSE of these weapons by gamers. Some guy even wanted to try to TERRAFORM the earth with them! :crazyeye:

We really need Radiation Pollution, instead of plain pollution, to limit how some people use these weapons. They have not in reality been used since 1945 for good reason - everyone loses.
