Software/MP3 Pirates, look here!

Ok, pirates, as some of you know, I'm doing some writing on software piracy and related issues. So this poll and this thread is research: I'd like to hear as much as possible from those who have ripped CDs, downloaded material that they knew was copyrighted without paying for it, copied games, bootlegged DVD movies etc. about their attitudes to the whole thing.

Whaddaya think?
Is it stealing?
If it isn't, why not?
If it is, why do you do it anyway?
What do you think about prosecutions, corporate attempts to protect digital information, etc.?

I'm doing this to try and get a general sense of the thinking behind piracy, so don't worry: while I may paraphrase things, nothing will be directly quoted, there will be no reference to CFC, and nothing will be attributed to any name, psuedonym, or reported to Mr. Gates .

And I will NOT be writing anything else in this thread unless asked to, and I encourage those of you (us) who oppose piracy and bootlegging of any sort to avoid debating this since I am actually trying to LISTEN to some different opinions here.
