SoI Domination Challenge

Nice, did the Abbasids respawn after you conquered them?

I agree that the Ottomans are pretty easy once you get Anatolia under control. The AI, however, is mostly unable to do anything in my games. Byzantines mostly stay alive and Ottomans a minor force.

They didn't respawn, for I stayed solid for a long time, not founding another city until I hit mongol invasion era (more free buildings with gunpowder empire era, you can achieve it with compass).

AI takes no risk in combat, they are always passive unless with a full stack or were scripted, unlike history.

The easiest way to rush Abbasid is: build 2-3 horse archer, invade, wait Buyids attack Baghdad, then conquer it either way. Armenia is perfect with this strategy.

Samanid domination 1507AD. score 5078.
33% land area without vassals.
but domination wasn't a point, i've just played, and suddenly domination victory conditions was achieved.
Since i became Roman Emperror, domination was possible much earlier, but i prefer to keep decent stability, at cost of slow conquest ;D

Byzantine Domination Victory in 1166AD
Score: 56731

Strategy was a bit different this time and it paid off handsomely.

Took Tarsus and Damascus straight away with starting Swordsman (after promoting on a barb swordsman along the way). Then razed Antioch and Edessa, captured Jerusalem, captured Medinah and finally Meccah.

Recruited the first mercenary horse unit I could and sent it directly to make contact with Mercurios. He immediately wanted to vassalise (just before I captured Medinah) so I actually liberated Medinah to Makuria. My super-promoted Swordsman then headed for Soba and Aksum, eventually joining up with my mercenary horseman and liberating these cities to Makuria too. A combination of gifting settlers to Makuria and settling key city locations myself and then liberating them meant that my vassal eventually had a huge empire down south.

I let barbarian peasants capture Kallipolis and Amastraia at some stage with the first 100 years. My culture eventually flipped both of these poor cities, which I then disbanded.

Ankyra had the Holy Lance (I think it started in Antioch), built Heroic Epic and much later rushed a Medical University. Antioch must have built over 50% of my army overall. Sevastaia built defenders and Kaisareia built settlers. Smyrna built non-islamic wonders and Damascus built all of the islamic ones (except House of Wisdom, which was in Tarsus). Constantinople had Royal Mint and Smyrna had Royal Archives.

Espionage was on Abbassids from the outset, eventually stole Education from them when Orthodoxy spread to one of their cities in Jazira. Researched Long-Distance Trade initially at between 10% and 30% science. First GP was a Saint (bulbed Religious Philosophy). Makuria researched Botany for me while I researched Crucible Steel. Traded for Mosaic Art and then learnt Religious Unity for Minaret of Jam. Then beelined Selective Breeding, which I learnt just before 1000AD. From this point, all cities with decent production built Cataphracts until the Sultante of Rum spawn in about 1070AD.

Refused the flip to Sultanate of Rum and then smashed their initial stack and then their follow up stack. Jerusalem declared independence just before KoJ spawn. Sent a stack of Cataphracts down to wait for them. Waited 3 turns after the KoJ spawn, which was enough time for them to have taken Gaza from the Fatimids. Then crushed them in one turn by taking Jerusalem and liberating Gaza back to Fatimids. This subsequently caused Fatimids to become Solid, which they remained for the rest of the game. MY plan was for this to mean no pesky Ayyubids, but in the end I managed to win Domination before the Ayyubid spawn date.

Georgia and Armenia voluntarily vassalised after the Seljuk spawn. Once I had teched as far as Heavy Lancers, I started to expand again. Firstly through Jazira and Mesopotamia, then Seljuk lands. Seljuks capitulated and I liberated their cities back to them. Khwarezmids were next target, and also capitulated. Abbasids respawned at about this point, which was quite painful. Heavy Lancers made mincemeat of their 4x Marksmen in each city though. Final conquests were Ghorids (capitulated) and finally Ghaznavids, who capitulated on what was to be the final turn of my game. I was beating up on Yemen but didn't finish the job at the end.

Trying Ajmer, strategy is to found capital on Jadigar (on horse, 3W from Delhi) so I could train Rajput horse archer from start and conquer Multan & Dilli soon, and capture indie & Malwa workers as well. Research literature and religious philosophy, then build the House of Wisdom in capital, with Shia spread from Multan.

So I built nearly every wonder and things went smooth, until I got about 19% of the land, it's hard to expand and remain stable on my own. I need vassals but I got only Zengids for now. Once I become shaky, Delhi can respawn..

good idea, never thought before about capital on horses...
I must to try it ;D

Chauhan domination.
1513AD, score 6009, 25% land area without vassals.
Again slowly, but i like to build everything, wonders etc and slowly grow up stability.
As a result, in this game stability was almost +70, and it is with few cities under occupation and few cities even without courthouses and temples.
Maybe someday i will be able to conquer every city on the map, like i did it in DoC ;D.
And then i could start to play another mod.

Did you build capital on horse?
Yes, right there, on horses. Captured Multan with starting javelinman and archer(in the beginning in Multan only one archer), after spreading Shia in Dilli, I have built House of Wisdom there. To build it faster than Abbasids you need 4 population in Dilli and 4 improvements(cows, 2 mines in hills/grassland, 1 mine in hills). With source of stone from Chittor you can also build Spiral Minaret in Dilli much faster than Abbasids.
And I ofcourse moved capital in Dilli, then burocracy became available. Dilli much better for burocracy. Jalandhar on horses is only for source of horses right in the beginning.

This is my Ajmer game.. much quicker. 100% culture slider and new cities build culture near end. Seljuk managed to get their huge army near my Levant in 1250s, then boom, they collapsed by Mongols. Zengid was vassal. Conquered Gujarat near end, Sindh respawned once near end. It should be able to win before Bahmani spawn.

how did you managed to avoid civil war with -178 stability?:crazyeye:

^Golden Age. One simply does not collapse during one.

My guess would be saving great people for a continuous one at the end, when stability was bad.

Yes. Slowly expand until you have about 19-20% of the land and about 0 stability, save 6 great people, then finish the game in 24 turns.

Makuria domination ;D
1562AD, 3454 score
25% land area without vassals
balanced and interesting game in the beginning, turns into horrible attempts to expand.
Expansion very much delayed by Ayyubids and Mamluks.
And even more, ayyubid/mamluk appearence is only the reason why Makuria always such DNIWE :C

Yes, Delhi is much better, but I built the House of Wisdom in Jalandhar so I didn't move out.

How do you remain stable after you got more than 19% and without golden age?

stability grow up due to economy.
I have always and everywhere build only cottages, and was surprised to see farms on screenshots.

I see. One should go cottage economy, free labor for long run. And which one is better, market economy or merchant capitalism?

The list has been updated!

Interesting read btw, I think I'll be coming back to SoI soon too.

Market economy, because +1 specialist per city better, than +1 trade route with 1 commerce ;D

Is your Armenia game, with 17.000 score was won on caliph?
I've just ended my game, ended few turns earlier, but score only 13.000.
