Solution for XML problems (German or (EU) version on US Windows)

I had also the XML errors when i started civ4, tried all off the solutions mentioned in this thread, nothing worked, still XML errors.

I also deinstalled civ4 and installed it again, still XML errors.

Then I deinstalled civ4 and deleted manually the remaining civ4 folders on my HD which where in "My Documents", "Documents and Settings" and the folder which I had Civ4 installed in "Civilization 4" (the default folder is "program files\firaxis\sid meier's civilization 4" I belief)

Installed again, no more errors, everything fine now.

Ok so warlords works fine the first time i run it but after that i get this error :

it happens right after it says something about "init XML (cached)"

i've tried all the solutions i could find in this thread but none of them seem to work :( (can't find that cache folder either)

So is there some documentation somewhere that explains what the log files tell us? Particularly I am interested in the xml.log file. I don't get any popup windows as the mod loads, but it crashed to desktop when the .CivWarlordsWBSave file loads the map. The xml.log file lists lots of errors, can't find element "NONE" in the civ4specialist.xml file....

I am officially stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same torrent of Xml load errors when I tried to run Civ 4 for the first time. So I can and looked in the forums and nothing worked, I found a link to microsoft to download something, but the link was dead. I thought, maybe i should just update the MIcrosoft Xml Parser, so I did and that fixed it completly.

I downloaded: Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 7 (SP7)

I downloaded the msxml3.msi which is 1.0mb and installed it and Civ boots now with No Errors. Hope this helps someone :D

this guy is a genious thanks

I am having the same problem as kryptyk, except it says this:
"Failed Loading XML file Assests//XML\GameInfo/CIV4PlayerOptionInfos.xml."

"LoadXML call failed for GameInfo/CIV4PlayerOptionInfos.xml.
Current XML file is:"

Also, I have attempted switching accounts, have installed numerous XML updates. It locks up when I put the second disc in for installation. Yet the first disc works fine b/c some files appear under ProgramFiles/Firaxis Games, yet I have to manually delete the files; there's no where to uninstall it...

Still not workingfor me at all !!! With all the posts! When I reinstall with the 1st version, 1.00 it works but when I patch to the newer 1.61 I get the XML errors like mad. And the game doesnt work and locks up when trying to click on EXIT.

MY PC is a AMD FX-57
2 gigs Ram
8800 GTX video card
Sound Blaster XFI (With newest drivers)

I also tried the MS MSXML 3 and 4 install with no luck!

Any help would be good! Thanks :)

Okay, I'm far from certain that this is the proper forum for this question, but if not, hopefully someone can direct me. When trying to start CivIV: Warlords, I get this:
Screenshot.jpg

Now, the odd part is, it will go ahead and finish loading normally, start running the game normally, then, in 3650 BC, I win a space race victory! I am an utter novice when it coems to XML, I hope someone has an idea. I have the 2.08 patch, so I don't think that's it

I have downloaded and installed the v2.08. When I tried to start the game again, the computer didnt read the cd. Said that cannot find the cd.

What should I do?

I'm having an issue, when I load warlords, all the buildings and improvements are red excepts for what appears to be the town centers of my cities, everything else seems to be a translucent red. any suggestions, I do have an English Windows XP OS, I'm assuming its American and not UK

I have been driven crazy for a couple of weeks about that, and then I SAW THE LIGHT! It was the audio card settings which prevented me from going beyond the XML analysis. In my case, for some obscure reason, it seems that the line input conflicts in some way with the game. I simply had to disable it, and everything went on perfectly right.

NB I am using an Acer laptop, with 1,80 Gigs processor and 2 Gigs of ram. Realtek High Definition Audio is the soundcard, and Vista is, quite unfortunately, the OS.

I bought Beyond the Sword this week and since installing, the game won't run.

I get the xml issues. I've tried most of the fixes listed in this thread.

my init file gives me..

Any suggestions???

Re-registering the XML version may also work.

To do that on Win2000 or WinXP, go to Start -> Run and type

Regsvr32.exe MSXML3.DLL

Then click ok

Hi! I had to register to the forums just so I could post this after finally having conquered those annoying msxml3 problems:

When I first intalled Beyond the sword it didn't work, so I updated those files with MSXML3 service pack 7. The game started well and I was able to play a couple of games. Then the game for some unknown reason began to spit out that "Caught unhandled exception creating XML parser object. Current XML file is." message. I installed the MSXML3 service pack 7 again, which did nothing. When I tried to Run "Regsvr32.exe msxml3.dll", I was told this: "DllRegisterServer in Msxml3 failed. Return code was: 0x80004005".

I got it fixed with this handy little program: http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix . Just checked all the boxes and pushed that GO button. Some error messages popped out with a couple of msxml files and the program told me to use the repair permissions tool that was found from under the hammer icon. So i repaired my permissions, which took some minutes and proceeded again to Run "Regsvr32.exe msxml3.dll" and it worked. And so did Civilization.

It keeps on showing me these kinds of errors once i try to start my mod from civilization/advanced/load a mod and so on it also gives errors for other files but with the same error any ideas? I'm using plain Civilization 4.

there is probably some syntax error in your mod - you might want to ask more experienced modders in the creation&customization subforum - this is not really a tech problem as much as a modding problem. You could of course describe what you did maybe I have an idea anyway :)

Welcom to Civfanatics :band:

Well in this file i just added an new element with this coding in it:

<CivilizationArtInfo>
<Type>ART_DEF_CIVILIZATION_THE_FAR_SIDE</Type>
<Button>,Art/The_Far_Side/Button.dds</Button>
<Path>Art/The_Far_Side/Flag.dds</Path>
<bWhiteFlag>0</bWhiteFlag>
</CivilizationArtInfo>

This is not the same file as in the picture but ecxactly the same problem I tested the files before i edited anything and they worked this file is CIV4ArtDefines_Civilization.xml

:hmm: there are some files that do not expect additional entries - maybe that is one of them? did you try replacing one?

On second look:
<Button>,Art/The_Far_Side/Button.dds</Button>
should probably read
<Button>Art/The_Far_Side/Button.dds</Button>

Hey Folks,
I just downloaded the 1.74 patch, the only one I have done and have a problem. When I try to start the game I get this messege....

Civilization4.exe - Unable To Locate Component

This application has failed to start because D3DX9_32.DLL was not found, Re-installing the application may fix this.

I have no idea what any of that means, it's been way to long since I've taken any kind of a serious computer class. I did find someting about reinitializing it, by going to the Run and typing something in, but no luck. The computer is a Dell from the US, I'm pretty sure, but I'm in New Zealand, where I got the game.

Any help would be fantastic.
Thanks
