Solver's Unofficial BtS Patch

That is untrue. No AIs will decide to declare war against you at friendly and some won't even at pleased. The only reason they would declare war on you at friendly is if they were previously below friendly and had already decided to declare war on before becoming friendly.

That is unfortunately really true; Cathy is well-known to be able to DoW you even on friendly :p

I know this is outside the scope of this patch, but it sure would be nice if I could declare war on a civ without penalty when I catch their spies doing bad things.

Exactly, wasn't it Civ 2 that catching an enemy Spy up to no good could be considered a justifiable DoW?

Yes, that would be nice.

A full fledged Casus Belli system is what I would really like to see, but that also might be beyond what can be done in a patch!

Any plans or a way to add more than 18 Civs to play againts?

Has anybody else been having problems with the air AI? They havnt been attacking me with airships or fighters, they just sit in the cit on intercept even if i have no air defence.

Solver, I'm about to try your patch- i have a request though, and I'm sorry for not reading through this entire thread (read the first 4-5 pages, i tried :) ) Is there any way you could fix the problem of civ closing down everytime you build a wonder?

I know many people have this problem, but apparently there is no solution but to turn movies of.

It's worth the shot. Sorry if this have already been discussed.

Can I use this to patch version 3.01 BTS straight from the box or must I use 3.02 or 3.03 first ??.

The original poster was not talking about when the decision was made, only that the DoW came when relations were "Friendly". All I said was that some AIs will declare on you when they are at Friendly.

I can't tell from Breunor's post on the topic whether or not those calculations apply in all cases. They may only apply to civs decision to initiate a war - they may not necessarily apply to the AI's decision process when another civ is bribing them into a war already in progress. . . though they might.

Not to go further off topic here but...how do I bribe an AI into joining me for war? Give them a bunch of stuff until I see the DoW as an option and then give them even more to seal the deal?

Also, how do I essentially say to an AI, "Hey you know how you asked me 10x already to go to war with this one guy and I always refused...well now, by golly, I can take you up on that offer even though you've finally learned to stop pestering me about it". Or even if the AI never asked me to join in his war, how can I ask something like "How much will you give me to help you out in your ongoing war?"

You dont.

The AI asking you to go to war is more about that AI figuring out whether you like them or not than anything else.

But they deffiently should try and bribe you sometimes !

Easy: You can't do all those things ;)

If the "Declare war on..." is red nothing can pursuade them to declare. At least not directly. There are some more subtle opportunities though, depending on the reason why they refuse to go to war.

1) "We couldn't betray our close friends": See to it that they aren't close friends any longer. Maybe you can convert them to another religion or make them change their civics.
2) "We have enough on our hands right now": If they are already at war they won't start another war. But if you can broker a peace they might be willing to go to war with the target you had in mind.
If they are busy with something else (maybe preparing a war, possibly against you) you can't really do anything.
3) "We just don't like you enough": Easy, make them like you more. Just gifting tons of stuff to them won't help much though.

KMCandy, I think, answered my post saying that the calculations to be 'bribed' into a war are different than the routine that calculates a DoW -- so I suspect that pleased or friendly is less of a defense if 'bribed' into a war.

I think we have sen this with vassals. We beat up somebody, and they 'offer' to be a vassal of somebody freindly with you, who declares war. I suspect that this is similar to being bribed into war.

Also, in an old post of Blake's, he also showed a different factor which was essentially a 'dogpile' rating. So, again, the calculations may be different also when dogpiled.

To be honest, I'm amazed at the depth of the programming here!

Best wishes,

Breunor

It might work on 3.01, but I would go ahead and update to 3.02. I would probably go ahead and update to 3.03 if you are running Vista.

Whatever you do, move the files that you are going to replace somewhere and then put them back if you have a problem.

AI fighters/jets don't do air strikes because of their set strategies in the CIV4UnitInfos.xml.
I've changed mine by adding UnitAI_Attack_Air, but haven't had any air opposition yet, so don't know if it has had a desired affect.

I have experienced the AI bombarding my cities pretty heavily with Airships so far.

So if I get this right, bombers still make bombing runs but they never use the fighters/jets to make air strikes (they're only used for interception and recon)?
