Solver's Unofficial BtS Patch

If you do not wait for all the end turn displays to appear - this will happen.

It had nothing to do with your war with Japan.

In previous releases, impatient players complained about waiting for the AI moves to end.

So now - once all the calculations are done, you can play your moves. But while you are - all the AI events are shown to you.

If it confuses you just wait a few seconds while they are displayed.

I guess those who complained were RTS players who were confused.

I don't think so. I always wait for all the messages, and made quite a few other attacks that turn.

Just ran a game and found that when I have a lone city on a small island, put one worker there and order him to Improve Nearest City, then I get my coal and railroads tech, the Worker didn't start to overlay rails.

How does this patch affect ones ability to play with others in multiplayer without the patch?

You can't unless everyone has the same file installed.

I'll just quote myself ;)

What was Solver's intent for the other 11 files?

Modding is the hint but to what extent?

If you add the other 11 files any idea what changes? :old:

@JosEPh_II

Solver includes these files for modders who would like to add the modifications he made into their Mods. Other users should simply ignore these files entirely. If you add them into CvGameCoreDLL folder they will overwrite some files there. Nothing will happen at all. The folder itself does absolutely nothing. It is also there for modders only.

question..

i decided to try out solvers patch and i read through it and i knew that ai's would be more likely to bribe other ai's into war and that is fine but..

i attacked china, i then had three other ai's declare war on me which is cool, no problem with that more loot for me, but then i noticed my city had a -8 'people are telling us your a villian' and this is without the ap being build and without any civs having alphabet.. so it's not spies or apostle..

what gives.. i've never seen this before, ever.

i backed up my assetts file so it's no biggie but what's this from, i actually like the patch so far besides for the units showing over my cities and the diplomacy screen but why did i get that negative bonus all of a sudden

.. i think maybe it actually was just spies.. i've never seen that before but that is prob bc he made the ai actually use spies.. so i guess that is it, a confirmation would still be a appreciated just to make sure tho lol

i don't get it though.. in the tech screen it shows the ai's can tech trade but it also shows they can research alphabet.. that doesn't make any sense..

i think this thing is buggy..

it also shows the greeks can research writing but then to the right it says they 'cant' trade writing like they already have it...

i'm installing my old assets

Ok, the AI has got Alphabet (obviously since they can trade tech), your "can research" screen is just lying to you. Actually, "lying" isn't the right word, but it is misleading you. It doesn't actually list the techs that the AI can research, it lists the techs YOU think it can research, based on what you've researched.

The upshot is, you got hit with the spy mission giving the -8 penalty, and you can't trust the "can research". :)

Bh

since when doesn't the tech screen show the truth.. it has always been accurate before

if they can trade techs wouldn't it be kinda obvious that they have alphabet.. why in the world does it say they can research techs they already have, like the greeks saying it can research writing but to the right they have it on wont trade...

it's buggy.. i never had that with bts, the game right after i install the patch all of a sudden the game gets buggy and doesn't show the right techs when it has since i bought it

it is suppose to say the techs they can research, it has everytime i looked at it since i bought the game. the patch messed it up, plain and simple.

If you don't have the prerequisites for Alphabet, and they do, then Alphabet will show up as "Can Research" for them, even if they already have it. This is because otherwise it would reveal to you whether they have it, or not. It's always worked this way.

Yes, that unhappiness penalty is from Spies, and yes, the tech screen is working as expected.

I agree. If you don't have Alphabet and the opponents do, then it will show up as "Can Research" for them. It's always been this way in the Exotic Foreign Advisor mod, which Firaxis incorporated into official BtS. So it has nothing to do with Solver's patch. It even makes sense logically because, as Bhruic pointed out, since you don't know Alphabet yourself you wouldn't really recognize that an opponent already knows it completely-- thus "Can Research" instead of "Already Has."

Updated

This is probably the last update. As Alexman said, the real patch is probably some three weeks away, and in all likelihood then I won't be updating this again. At any rate, we have a bunch of Blake's AI tweaks again and a couple of small changes by myself.

* Fixed possible negative inflation situation (thanks Esper23)
* AI prefers to poison water supply of cities with a low food bar to ensure population loss.
* Fixed bug causing the new capitulation behavior to malfunction.
* Fixed bug causing units to sit around outside cities.
* AI now knows how to use Steal Tech and Incite Revolt
* AI's may choose to not be espionage "petty terrorist" and instead only use large espionage missions (like steal tech and sabotage project).
* AI uses spies more smartly (camps them in cities to get the discount)
* AI values espionage buildings more
* Another couple of minor changes to governors

Correction, it's not if you don't know Alphabet, it's if you don't have the required prereqs for alphabet. Or any tech for that matter.

@Solver

Thanks again for the update and for your hard work on this patch. Thanks a lot as well for Blake's work on the AI. Your combined effort made this expansion quite enjoyable for many of us.

Hopefully the coming most anticipated official patch will incorporate your work and add other fixes and tweaks.
