Some MP questions

Heyas,

Ive been playing a few MP games on Lan so far, and so far Im having a blast.

Personally I find Civ 5 to be more stable than Civ 4. Especially on very large maps with tons of AI and CSs. Havent seen the 'memory allocation failure' yet.

Every now and then we do get the 'units no longer responding' bug, but a rehost/reload solves that for us.

We found a workaround for the bug that turns refuse to end now and then. We quickly switch on and off the option to automatically end turns in MP and then the turn will end.

Anyway, to further increase our experience we would really love to play a custom earth map in Multiplayer.

I do know (at least I think...) that Civ 5 doesnt support custom maps in MP yet, but... is there a workaround for this? Can my friend and myself manually place maps in certain directories?

In Civ 4 I used a scenario for this. With fixed start positions for the civs and fixed resource placement. I would like that in Civ 5 also.

Could somebody help me or point me in the right direction?

Playing Earth maps with all civs on the right places and also the resources on the right spots adds so much to the overall experience (at least for us it does=). I know there are some earth maps already, but I enjoy making them myselves.

Another thing I was wondering... Ive been reading a lot of questions about how to get Hamachi or Tungle to work with Civ 5. In the responses Ive seen occasional succes stories, but never a step by step tutorial on how to get civ 5 working for hamachi (well some tutorials are present, but they are focussing on the pirated versions of civ, manually hacking some files). So if anybody got Civ 5 working on hamachi/tungle, please please pretty please share your knowledge =)
We've done a few games on Lan so far (without hamachi, but physically on the same router) and we found the performance to be a LOT better than through steam.

Thanks a ton in advance,

DazL

Hi,

I would like to know how you can rehost/reload local games.

For me this totally didn't work.

My husband and I wanted to play a MP game over our local network. After we saved and closed the game and some time later wanted to restart..... stuck... nothing happened.

I really hope you (or anybody else) can help.

We're getting really frustrated not being able to resume.

Thanks!

I cannot help much, but I do know there is some kind of a LUA script that allows a mirrored map, providing an equal starting point for both or all players. With a bit of research I'm sure you find some mention of it. Or then someone actually knowing about it pops in here and tells you right away.

Im not sure if it is by default, but in MP our game is auto-saved every turn. It ends up in the default directory (im at work atm, dont know it by heart).

But you can do a manual save also, just do CTRL+S ingame, and manually name your savegame file. After that do a search on your C:\ drive for that file, and you will see where the auto-saves are located also.

For me just hosting a game, and then loading one of these savegames, works just fine. It gets me in the lobby waiting for the original players to join the game.

What exactly doesnt work for you?

I can load the saved game without problem (only the 'level' automagically gets reset to prince), but my husband just can't get connected to the game.

His game just hangs and hangs and finally closes.

Eventually we just ended up playing single player games again :(

Luckily we still have civ iv installed, so we can do mp games there.

Thanks for your help though :)
