Some questions

Good morning all (well morning my time at least); long time lurker, first time poster; I have a few questions that the esteemed community may be able to help me with:

1. How do you turn off espionage? I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is possible, but cannot find it under "custom game"

2. Playing as bismarck at noble level, I am in the process of vassalising my continent with Rifles and Cavalry. The hindu's, under Saladin, have built the AP in Mecca. When I declared on the french (also Hindu) there was an immediate vote to stop the war, which I defied (I have one hindu city from previous conquest of suleiman). My one Hindu city has the happiness penalty "+5 the world thinks we are villains". Does this ever go away by itself? If I raze Mecca, does it go away (my next war will be against Saladin as he is second in score)?

I have plenty more questions but will start off with these and see what I can pick up.

Thanks a Bunch

1. You need the most recent version of the game. (3.17)

2. It takes 20 turns to go away on normal speed, scaling accordingly. You can't make it just disappear, even if you raze the AP, you have to wait for it to turn out. However this time is halved by every other religion present in the city, so if you want to help it out spread other religions its way!

I wouldn't turn off espionage. The feature is full of strange bugs.
If you do anyway, you should use the inofficial patch from Sover in addition to the 3.17 Patch. It does fix the most outrageous issue at least.

I think it doesn't scale, taking 20 turns on any speed. Not 100% sure, it's something that i only rarely really experience... However many other things in Diplomacy do not scale to speed either (10 Turns Forced peace treaty length, WW cool-down times, Resolution frequency...)

I agree with not turning off Espionage. Many strange things will happen. :crazyeye:

Thanks for the replies

On the first one, I am playing BtS right out of the box - should I patch it? What are the advantages / disadvantages? I tried downloading it once and the file seemed to be about 100Mb - does that sound right?

On the second one, most of the time I play with diplo victory disabled because I generally cannot stand the AP. Are there any other good tips on how to use the AP and it's impacts which the game does not detail?

Thanks

Yeah, it's a big file. Make sure it's 3.17 so you aren't wasting your time.

As for the AP, enjoy the hammer bonus it gives to its religion's buildings. +2 free hammers for temples and monastaries makes them very attractive buildings indeed. If you want to make the AP a non-issue diplomatically, build it yourself while under a minor religion only you own.
