Most of the exploits in that article have been fixed/eliminated in patched versions of the game. Other info there doesn't appear to be very useful.

Yeah, virtually every exploit listed was patched out fairly early in the game's life. And pretty much all the rest of it is either obvious, or useless. "Start a new game with no rivals, and you will be able to build all the Wonders." Duh!

No matter how you look at it, the "hints" on that webpage are bad. Even IF those bugs where not patched out.

Yes. When starting your game, you get to pick your civ. On that screen, you also get to select your opponents. Simply set some of them to 'none' to lowerthe number of opponents.
