SP1 - Always War, with extra restrictions

Lee, is your laptop back up and running?

The next person who gets the game must stop the Heroic Epic immediately. It is against the rules. Old habits die hard.

:crazyeye: I haven't had anything in ages, and when I am working some OT and reconstructing the laptop they are come up. :crazyeye:

The laptop top is marginally functional. Windows, Internet, Civ and a couple of misc items work. I can't even fix some until I am home for the weekend - I need some CDs from home.

I can play, and I completed TH3 last night. However, I will probably use the full 48 hours as I have LK31 tonight.

I left the PC at the hotel installing SP1 for windows - I may get finished getting windows back to spec. It did download most of the patches overnight:p Welcome to the joy of dial-up

important noe

I 'shift-a'ed all workers since there is practically nothing to be done except clean up pollution

(0) 1758 AD - (1) 1760 AD Log lost - I need my PC at 100%
I remember waking up Shift-A workers, added 3rd infantry to army, destroyed German city by Normandy and cancel Heroic Epic.

(2) 1762 AD -
(I) A lot of units attack Normandy, but we lose NOTHING.

(3) 1764 AD - Rush barracks in Normandy, I want faster healing power.

(4) 1766 AD -
(I) We are attacked by a marine! The AI is still ahead of us.
That is despite skipping Nationalism, Communism and Espionage (we could really use the police stations).

(5) 1770 AD - We liberate conventry and take a look below!
LAK-161.jpg

I change Normandy to harbor, and rush it with half the money.
The rest of the cash upgrades some cannons to artillery. We can use every possible unit.
Getting those dyes online is just to valueable - I can fire a ton of entertainers.
(I) We barely hold Conventry after the RnG really slams us.
Come on - UNDAMAGED infantry die to Cavalry two attacks in row.
A **KNIGHT** kills a 1 hp infantry - come on, this is absurd.
The city held with the cavalry that took the city.

(6) 1772 AD - I fire a bunch of jugglers and clowns.

(8) 1776 AD - Heidelburg is captured.
I spot an English Battleship - No diplomacy is really turning out to be frustrating, as I have no frelling clue how far ahead of us the AI is.

(9) 1778 AD - Now that we have an artillery SOD, we can start moving. Frankfurt is captured. The front line is finally moving forward.
(I) China captures Frankfurt - For the moment.

(10) 1780 AD - Frankfurt is ours again - this time for keeps.
The junk behind Frankfurt is gone.
Hangchow meets our aSOD, and goes from size 23 to size 12 - plus lost multiple buildings.
I don't know why Germany let our Cavalry live, but SaltPeter is pillaged.

Summary - The captured cities are size 1 with NO growth.
I have NEVER had a size one city flip - keep them at size 1

Actually, I'm in feast mode and would rather play the other games first. Jersey Joe, if you want it, take it and swap with me; either way I can get to it probably late Saturday.

BTW - we can raze cities, right, no restriction on that?

BTW2 - we can raze Hangchow this turn with the stack of cavalry, and keep the artillery on the move.

Okay T-hawk, I will grab it when I get home and try and have my turn posted up in about 26 hrs from now.

Sorry, RL intruded and delayed game play time.

1780AD Inherited turn: Change a few build orders, move some
cavalry into postion to attack Hangchow.
1782AD Hangchow captured. Get a GL and rush a factory in Normandy.
1784AD get the GL Seti. He rushes Courthouse in Normandy.
1786AD troop movement
1788AD Canton is captured. Hamburg Razed. Leipzig captured.
1790AD troops postioning for attacks on Munich & Berlin.
1792AD We capture Munich.
1794AD We get a GL and rush a marketplace. Berlin is captured.
(I) we are attacked by English tanks :(
1796AD In the attack on Nanking we get a GL he builds a
courthouse. The attack continues and we get another Gl he builds a library in Berlin. Nanking is captured.
1798AD We capture Konisberg & get Newton's (not of any real use because of corruption). The Glorious Germans are destroyed :D
We get a new luxury -- Furs --
1800AD fighting at Canteburry gets us a GL, who rushes a library
at Plain town.

I did not build airports since I can get the troops to the other
continent just as fast with transports.

2 tiles between Berlin & Konigsburg are not neutral territory,
they belong to the English.

The only town we have with a barracks, on the continent where we are fighting, is Normandy.

Here it is: SP1 Always War

Things got hairy for me this weekend, I barely got in 10 turns on LK32, so you are still up unless you can not play on Monday.

Got the save, going to try hard to play within the next 6 hours now.

Editing in: grrrr, I forgot I had never updated this PC to 1.29, and can't take an hour to download the 9 MB patch now on a dialup. I can play for absolute sure Tuesday night when I'm back home on my regular PC. Meldor, you're still welcome to play before then if you like.

Editing again: Back at my real PC with the save in hand, playing now :D

Do you have the latest version of mapstat the shows percent population? We may have not crossed that limit.

Inherited turn:

Science slider microed to get Mass Production in 1 turn. Normandy swaps to settler to have another one available (who cares about economy on that continent.)

Nothing else changed (though I didn't bother cycling thru the cities to look. :) )

End of turn: A few English tanks attack us. We start researching Motorized Transport.

1802 AD: Um, there's a mech infantry in Canterbury! Two, actually; both conscripts. I say damn the Wall Street interest and crank up research to get tanks in 4. Takes two cavalry to kill each mech. Other English cities and also Russian cities have vet mechs, though China's got only rifles.

I start ordering up some planes, since we REALLY want to find and disconnect their oil or rubber. (Bombers can't run recon? I never knew that. Some fighters ordered up too.)

Canterbury razed, earning us 664 gold; okay, we'll keep the interest income. :) I hope that was England's only oil.

Beijing captured; I keep it for Magellan's Voyage.

Chengdu razed.

Interturn, production in Tanis (a factory) has been sabotaged! :crazyeye:

1804 AD: Xinjian razed.
Two zillion and one bombardments later, Minsk is razed for 598 gold.

Hey, Kiev is eligible for the Iron Works. If we didn't already have one, I'd keep the city. :) Kiev also has rubber that I pillage this turn, but even four zillion artillery still leave the city with healthy mechs.

1806: Tsingtao with Shakespeare's Theater is razed. Kiev razed after six zillion bombardments. Odessa razed after eight zillion.

1808: Shanghai razed. Twelve zillion artillery bombard Moscow but barely dent its units. Mapstat shows us over the domination limit but we didn't win...

Motorized Transport comes in, and I scroll-ahead through all the cities changing them to tanks.

But that's all folks!

The replay showed a lot of war going on on the other continent before we got there; grab the save if you want to see it. The zip contains both the 1808 saves (from beginning of turn - I forgot to save at the end - but hit end turn and you should be able to enter the game into your HOF) and the 1810 save after my final moves and the win.

(This continues a run of weird luck I've had in SGs: this is the fifth game that I've played to victory, and in every one of the five I've been the one to take the last turn and post the victory shots. Heh. )

Good job, everyone. :goodjob:

great going guys. I'm sorry I didn't have time to complete this game - kudos to meldor for resurrecting it.

It's strange to see a Domination victory when we don't have tanks and some of our enemies have mech infantry! I was also surprised to see that our landmass accounted for more than 50% of the available land. We really were fortunate to start on our continent rather than the other, rather more crowded continent.

Anyhow, great finish!
