SP3 for Windows XP Pro x64 ed????

Do your homework before you plunk down the $$ for Vista Ultimate, 'cause there's really no reason at all to get it instead of Home Premium.

Home Premium (64 bit) is very reasonably priced at $112 - which is $40 cheaper than XP Pro (32bit).

Unless you are getting Ultimate edition for free. :D

oh! i had heard that only Ultimate supported 64 bit. i guess i heard wrong. whats the main differences of Vista Home x64 and Vista Ultimate x64??

Combining all the features of the Home Premium and Enterprise editions, plus the "Ultimate Extras", Windows Vista Ultimate has features such as business quality encryption as well as Windows Media Center. Ultimate supports up to two physical CPUs[6] and 128+ GB of memory (64-bit version). Mainstream support for Ultimate ends on April 10, 2012; extended support ends on April 11, 2017. There is also an upgrade variant of Windows Vista Ultimate available, Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade Limited Numbered Signature Edition. This is a limited, numbered edition of Windows Vista Ultimate that features Bill Gates' signature on the front of the packaging along with its unique number; only 20,000 copies of this edition will be produced.

yeah, and i talked to microsoft about an upgrade that would be like $250, but that, coupled with my current OS price, would come out to a total of $380, only a $20 savings altogether. and not to mention a way more time consuming installation :(

Ultimate has all of the features of Home Premium and Business (mainly additional backup features, remote desktop, fax support) plus the Bitlocker drive encryption, the "Ultimate Extras" and ability to support more RAM.

98% of people will never need or use any of that stuff - be sure you actually do before you throw away those extra $$$.

BTW, MC's quote is somewhat misleading - Home Premium and Ultimate both have the same Media Center functionality.

Yes, the OS stores needed boot files on the flash drive to allow for a faster boot time since flash memory has a fast access time.

by flash memory i meant flash drives, those little usb plugs that are like 1-2 gigs. i hear that you can use them as full system memory while you run the computer!

hey speedo

does the home premium have the thing where you can use flash memory as system memory (heck yeah i would use that!!)
AFAIK all versions of Vista, even Home Basic, have Readyboost. Home Premium definetly does.

yeah, system memory is dropping in price. but what if you have all your DIMMs full with ram, and you dont feel like buying all new sized ram? then i guess readyboost would be cool. or perhaps if they have it for palm PC's, that would be cool too.

Buy new sized ram anyway. ;)

8GB can be gotten for under $200, there's really no reason to be lacking in ram.
