I know whats going to happen with this thread:
The realistic people will denounce it.
And the SciFi junkies will jump on it.

Neither of those do I want to happen.

I want to keep civ up the present/slight future like it is now.

What can civ reasonable do with space warfare? I don't want to go to far into the future.

I see to things for space warfare.

1. Knock out the SDI Missile shield
2. Destroy satelites (which will hopefully be useful this game.)

Both of those are reasonable. The F-15 has worked on the ability to knock out satelites, but was never used due to the ban on space warfare. However the civs in Civilization never signed this agreement!

Lets change history!

I was worried by the title that you were a crazt man suggesging, but you make some good points. I'm sorry that I don't feel like putting in my 2 cents but good idea.

GO "SciFi junkies"!!!!
Space Wars ARE A MUST!!!!
lol
thats how i feel, like when you conquered one world you can then conquer a 2nd one and so on, and then play a huuuuuuuuuuge space map.

hey searcheagle,

Good idea .. I like the fact that you raise the point that just because we haven't done it on Earth, it can't be done. Like why does the modern era lack chem and bio warfare? Its totaly possible, just not used much here (luckily). How about civs that don't buy into mass transport like cars, how about a civ developing a communist system that works etc etc etc ...

So, I totally agree, we need space based options in the modern era

So you are really just talking about the "near earth" space wars. Killer Satelites and what not. Space Based Nukes that can rain down death with Anonomity.

Don't know. I think it goes outside the scope of what Civ is.

I'm cool with space warfare as long as it doesn't go into depth maybe just some satellites warfare and we could have satellites built that aid in destroying enemy troops/units.

That what i was intending on limiting it to. Just knocking out satelites, fuction as recon and as part of an SDI shield. It could also shoot at enemy troops, i suppose too. I don't want a Star War era space warfare, just near earth styled. Maybe it could just be incorporated in to the air component somehow.

aye go for it bt dont go overboard n turn it into star trek. cant stand that piece of cak:)

Did anyone ever play Civ2 Test of Time (presumably), it was probably the worst incarnation of Civ BUT the multipule maps were really cool. This allowed people to expand on to multipule planets/ underwater or whatever. Something similar could exist to represent space, with space transports or whatever allowing surprise attacks on enemies etc. etc.

There was a little bit of space stuff in Alpha Centauri; you could launch sattelites that could improve your cities, and defense satteliltes that could shoot down incoming Planet Busters. I'd like to see that included in Civ 4, because it was interesting, and maybe being able to make a Space Station that gives you a research boost or something, but I don't want it to become a game where you spend all your time building space shuttles to ram each other with.

I really like to see a deep randomly generated space map and you can colonize your planets and have deep space fighting

I loved that game. I think there should definately be multiple maps! :D what would be cool with the "3D" stuff they are implementing, perhaps you could superimpose maps upon each other? Like have an undersea world if you zoom in on the oceans, and if you zoom out, you can see the space above? Or a bad idea?

I avoided this thread because I thought it was going to be some crazy idea, but this is an interesting thought :goodjob:

Especially the point of making satelites useful and than destroying them. I'm thinking that there should be some way to represent the actual treaty which prevents space warfare.

I like this idea as originally proposed. I think getting into multiple maps and future tech is not the way to go but including things like spy satellites and killer sats. would be functional and realistic.

As to new treatys? lets find some way of making the AI stick to the ones it agrees to now!
