Spaceship Launch?

Is there a way to avoid the spaceship launch once the ship is built? Last night, I was gearing up to launch an offensive once I had the ship built, to launch at a later date. However, once I built the last component, I couldn't exit the launch screen. So I launched and won the game before I wanted.

I made the same discovery first time I built the ship.

I worked around it by reloading and not building the last component for another couple of decades...
