Spanish Strategies

JB,

If you can put 2 or 3 cannon in your key border towns they can kill a LOT of natives, especially if you have a couple of dragoons for spoiling attacks. I just had two vet infantry kill 8 attacking braves in one turn, and my cannon didn't even fire.

Thanks for the info HermannLombard, but do you mean defending or attacking? If it's about defending cities then it's OK because I normally dont have much trouble in that. I do have trouble in attacking native settlements when 2 or 3 native armies are guarding them or ambushing me!:D

Also, does anyone have a proven way to make a native tribe declare war on you?

Thanks,
JB

Don't have any defence in your colonies or any other military at all then take their land without paying for it.

Yeah, and get smashed by them.:mischief:
I mean, all ready to attack, and not to be the aggressor, you make them attack you! I tried insulting and stealing land till the relations were -30 but I think they were too scared!

Why not just declare war? If you are too strong for them to risk fighting you then the same applies to other tribes so it shouldn't matter if you are the aggressor and create some negative sentiment.

Well, dalgo, the tribe that I was trying to get in war with me was already half destroyed and no problem for me but it was connected by Defensive Pacts with two other quite strong tribes. If I attacked one all three would swamp me and probably, eventually defeat me.

Yeah, I know it's complicated but the result is I cant do much and I'm stuck in my half of the map!

Cannon are even more effective in attacking settlements than in defending them, but dragoons with grenadier promotions are more flexible. The trick--when feasible--is to attack from open terrain rather than getting caught in thick woods when the natives counterattack. You know, that memo that General Braddock didn't get?

Ok thanks, I'll try using a combination of Dragoons and Cannons. I normally use them but not together. I'll try focusing all my army on one settlement at a time and see if that works. But I need to wait till whenever I get my game back!

Maybe Santa will leave you a copy...

I hope that Santa Clause sneaks into my friends house (who I lent my game to a week ago), take it and drop it into my stocking! Oh well, does he stop by on Xmas night as well for the straggling presents?
I can't wait to try this stratergy tho...

Merry Christmas everyone,
JB
