You could use potions to emulate Cure Disease and Heal (you'd have to pay for them, of course, to go along with the CoE's theme), and it would still keep the basic concept of a "hidden religion".

Yeah - The source could even be some sort of drug-den or crooked alchemist.

I'd been thinking that while a promotion-as-upgrade fits the best with the rest of the CoE mechanics it'd make the unit hard to spot.
And of course that fits, too. :)

Just throwing this idea out there... Drug Lord GPP. A religion with a UU great person. Maybe it can build a Drug Den, where you can pay for miracles. Any thoughts?

I definetly think that recon units in a Esus state religion civ be able to buy the Esus promo, or at least the mask ability somehow. Also like the cure disease/ heal potions for purchase.

I selfishly still want some implemention of a Night Mother unit :)

I think their should be a grand ritual (on the level of glory everlasting or bane the divine) that allows all units (or recon only?) to gain the hide and mask abilities, or a separate ritual for each.

Like MistEternal and NightEverlasting (sound familiar?)
Perhaps just buildable by the Sidar and Svartalphar respectively. OR only buildable if you have the Esus state religion, and promos removed if you switch religion.

I think the high cost should cancell out the Uber it could create. Hmm... maybe only for Fall Further?

I don't think they should get Mask, but I would like to see them get other abilities.

I like the fact Esus operates without priests. I don't want new units, but I do want to see other unit types getting some benefit, maybe even their own abilities.

I think giving Esus a number of rituals would be cool, but not one that masks everyone. Maybe a ritual that gives all recon units CoE.

I'ld like to see CoE able to build these vice buildings in other civs cities.

Perhaps Esus should be the only ones that can build spies instead of having the monopol for espionage points. Sure they could have an extra building too but they should not have the only ones (Dungeon, Tower of Eyes, Courthouse, Basilica for defense, Tavern, Gambling House for offense)
This way the others can defend against espionage, but it's not omnipresent as only esus can perform missions.

I mean the CoE is basically organized crime based on a sneaky god right? Then how about giving them income based off of cities of a certain size across the map.

How would that be implemented, though?

Also, for your vice-buildings idea, what do you think of the buildings providing some kind of negative resource? Like "drug" that gives +1 unhealthiness and stacks by numbers? I don't know if there's a way to prevent resource gifting in the XML, but if there is, I think it'd be a neat idea.

Well, to balance it out: to get income from crimes where they build their "dens". I think that the fact that they have no temples is cool but what about some "temple"-like building which can be created by sacrificing a high level CoE unit, it should be able to be built in any city (yours/rival) and will net similar benefits but if you build it in foreign city it increases crime there and gives you gold based on the total number of crime in that city? So you don't abuse unknown cities unless you establish a HQ there.

Kael has mentioned before that drugs are not going to be a resource in his game (though that berry in hell terrain is debatable). I think crime rate affecting income would be cool. I think the spread of Esus to a city should create a crime related building which benefits the CoE shrine holder, with perhaps a small bonus to the city owner where the religion has spread.

I am not a coder, I know nothing about python except that it scares me...like spiders.
