I noticed that in a few months (I don't know, 6 months maybe), a few posters will begin reaching the ten thousand mark.

10,000 is an enormous number, and a couple are threatening to leave. Will they get special status or privileges if they were to reach ten thousand? Should they?

They should be restricted to a maximum of 3 hours per day on CFC forums. Or someone should be designated to invite them over, so they get out of their houses at least once a year.

No. They can leave if they like. We do not promote elitism for ANY reason.

bann them:p

I dont think they should get extra privileges just because they spam all day long;)

Never.

All posters are the same, 10,000 is just a meaningless number.

I think once they hit 9999 they should get the original "custom" avatar: one pixel in size (but any color you want!).

:p

 :D

Do you even have to ask? :p Why in the world would we want to do this? :ack: Giving a person special privileges because they posted 10000+ posts is tantamount to giving somebody moderator powers because they reached a certain amount of posts. That is, it is not a good idea. :mischief: And if people want to leave, well, they can leave. :cooool:

I'm a little confused here. Why is it that gaving a reward for getting to a certain number of posts (10000) is frowned upon (and rightfully so), but you get special privledges for having 300 posts?

If someone wanted a custom avatar, he needs 300 posts. Not only does this encourage spaming, but it also makes distinctions between posters: the 300 club, and the not-300 club. Regardless of whether these two groups of posters are treated differently or not, they are still two groups of posters, something CFC doesn't encourage in the least.

If the 300 post limit was done away with, there would be two benefits. One, there would be less spamming, as people no longer have a need to get to 300 posts, and two, it would combine two groups of people into one.

Why do we have any priviledges that are associated with one's post count?

@AoA and gonzo: Remember the 300-post custom avatar limit? That isn't exactly treating everyone equally.

I like the 300 post limit, as it gives something for users to work for (and I don't think it really increases spam, at least not that much), and I like custom avatars, and I wouldn't mind users getting something small after reaching 10,000 posts, but I probably wouldn't want it, so I voted no.

Ok, say we didn't have a 300 post limit for avatars. So then you have every Joe Newbie on the street registering here, uploading their avatar, and never coming back- TF left to host their avatar for all of eternity. :p Or maybe they'll make three or four or ten posts, and never come back. When you have a member who's stuck around for 300 posts, then they're probably a little more dedicated to posting and the space used to host their avatar (if not remotely linked) won't be wasted.

I agree completely! :D

So then why not just delete the users who haven't visited the site in "X" amount of time? Along with them, delete their avatars. This doesn't even have to require any manual labor, once coded in PHP, the process runs itself! Does it really matter to anyone how many users are in the database?

You'd be surprised. ;) :crazyeye:

I do admit a nice membership pruning would be nice once in a while. :ack:

That's not treating everyone equally, is it? I like the current method better.

Two words..

Heck No.

Some of them prolly spammed alot to get up that high and the others have been around long enough for most users to respect them... which should be prize enough for anybody.

I think they might be a little ticked off when (and if) they come back...

Although I do think posters that have never posted and have never logged on in X amount of time should be deleted; it wouldn't matter all that much to them. Of course, the number of users does matter to some people. In fact, it might determine how much advertisers would like to advertise on this site.

Edit: Another reason why I like the 300 limit is because a lot (probably most) of the users below 300 post in the Civ forums, and most of the posters in the Civ forums are under 300, whereas the opposite is probably true for the other forums. Therefore, in non-Civ forums, you can see all the pretty avatars, and in the Civ forums, there is a Civ feel to it.
