Spyware Problem

I have a virus on my computer. It is a dialer. It's called dialer.wsv.

It installs most times I open a new interenet explorer (I'm using IE 6 and Win XP Home) and the program is inst.exe. It creates new .dat files in the local folders. If I delete all the new installed programs and files it creates, it will reinstall itself again if I open another webpage. I cannot find the root of it.

I have the latest Northon internet security and anti virus software and the latest patches. It will locate it, but then when I try to delete it, Northon says "delete failed". When I try to do it manually, I can't find it.

I downloaded some anti-spyware software. They didn't help. They said that they would find and delete any spyware, but obviously they didn't work. I got HijackThis and Spy-bot or something like that.

Can anyone give me any advice?

Thanks.

The root of the problem is probably somewhere in C:\Documents and Settings\ (in the folder for your user name).

There are some sub-folders (suspect .j* java directories) but I cannot remember where to look. Windows "Search" ignores this directory

Cool. Explorer prob ignores some stuff too, as far as I can see.

I'll check it out.
