Contrary to what many thought of him due to his name, William was not a heroic man, at least not when he was young. He came from a family of knights, one that had a tradition of serving/protecting the people in the land around them, even long after the old kingdom was destroyed. Many people, however, did not share the same loyalty to the land and William was no exception. He was a young man who wanted to enjoy life to the fullest. As a result, he was often found to be fishing or hunting whenever his father and older siblings went out on patrols. Fortunately for him, being one of the younger children in the family made his parents to not place much expectation in him.

While living with honour in this time of strife brings much fame and glory, it also causes animosity and unwanted attention. William learned this firsthand, or more specifically, his family did. As order in the country continued to crumble, more and more people resorted to banditry. William should’ve known the peace he enjoyed during his youth wasn’t going to last, but being the young and carefree man he was, he ignored the trouble in the world around him until it came crashing in his face.

On that fateful day, William was out fishing in his own secluded bank that only he knew about. It was located upwind/up along the current from his house. For some reason, nearly all the fishes swam up stream from his home, resulting in more catches for him. Something was definitely wrong, but William took all this as his good fortune. That thought changed of course the moment he arrived in his house, or what was left of it.

The stone mansion that William was familiar with was deformed completely. Where once there were a colourful and sturdy roof, charred and broken splinters of wood remained. In the gardens, the vegetables grown by William himself are now trampled. The walls are filled with cracks, and in some places caved in completely. All the valuable possessions were either burnt or missing. Worse of all was the fate of the people who lived in the house. Not one member of his family or friend remained in one piece. It was a gruesome site for a veteran soldier, let alone a young man like William. The shock of it all took his consciousness away from him, and allowed him to escape from the cruel reality, albeit temporarily.

When he came to, he found himself in a moving cart, with an old lady beside him, to whom he immediately spoke the first question on his mind.

“Where am I… ugh”

When the old lady faced him, William recognized her as one of the nanny who took part in raising him and his siblings.

“Oh, thank goodness you’ve awakened! Lord Braveheart can rest in heaven now knowing you’re safe!” The old lady burst into tears, and William joined her shortly after when the memory of the incident came back to him. After a considerable length of time, they settled down enough to continue their conversation. After asking his former nanny, his suspicions were confirmed. Bandits, either new or old were attracted by the peace and richness of the region, and have attacked his house in order to harvest the resources. He was also informed of their destination, the new kingdom of Stalingrad, of which he have heard a little of from his father. As he absorbed this new piece of information, his nanny turned around and reached for something. When she faced him again, William immediately recognized the object in her hand. It was his father’s shield, with the family emblem on it.

Untitled1.jpg

Without another word, William received the shield from her. At the same time, he nodded to his nanny to show he knew what he was doing. It was no longer just a piece of metal used by his father; it represented the will and soul of the Braveheart family. By receiving the shield, William has taken on the responsibility of continuing his family’s legacy.

IMPORTANT: New Rules

Economy (updated)

Failing an eco raise will not make you automatically lose all the gold you used attempting to increase it. Instead, the outcome of your failure will depend on your roll. For instance, if your Politics stat was 15 and you tried to raise your economy from 2 to 3 and I rolled a 16 (barely a failure), I would say that your investment broke even and that you made back all the money you spent on it, and return the 4 eco you used for the raise back to your bank. However, if your Politics stat was 12 and I roll a 16 (a significant failure), then I would say you lost half of your investment and return only 2 to your bank. Only on truly disasterous rolls will ALL the eco you spent be lost. If you succeed, however, the money you used to raise the eco level will be gone.

Age
I felt my previous definition of age was a little arbitrary, so every character, current and future, will be assigned an Age statistic below their class on the template. For starting characters, it will be a random number between 16 and 30. Each turn will last a year, so the Age statistic will increase by 1 for all characters every turn. The general lifespan (obviously accidents/disease will occur sometimes) will be around 50-60, so officers will generally last quite a while. However, virility will decrease with age, so everybody should try to produce progeny as quickly as possible.

Trade
Once you establish contact with other nations, through borders or otherwise, you may choose to begin trade with them. Trade routes may cover any overland or oversea path between two cities, but obviously shorter distance = faster travel = greater profits. Oversea routes will require each participating nation to give up at least one galley for a merchant marine, but again, more ships = more trade = greater profits. Trade routes cost an intial 5 gold to open. The profits, to make it more realistic, will not be static, but rather they will fluctuate. Most commonly a trade route will get both nations 1 eco apiece, but sometimes no profit will be made, or in some cases 2 or 3 eco could be made by both sides.

Age Statistic has been added for all existing characters.

So far I have orders from:

The Frumos dynasty of Wallachia came from a long line of Vlach rulers, who traced themselves all the way back to a Roman Govoner marrying a Dacian Princess. Târgovişte, their capital, was a fairly small city, having been destroyed and rebuilt countless times in wars between rival Voivodes, and Boyars. The population was generally happy with their rulers, and likewise the royalty respected their peasents. There was the occaisonally rumor that the castle in Târgovişte, was cursed, but most villagers were smart enough to not say anything. Even mentioning evil or the occult, was punishable by death in Wallachia. But besides this, the citizens had freedom of speech, decent civil rights, and usally moderately fair trials before being convicted.
The current ruler Josef, came to power, after winning a brutal civil war against his own father, Ion IV. Josef's rebellion was no suprise, it was open knowledge, he hated his father, for making him govonor of a small backward village surrounded by forest, while his half-brother had a much larger domain. But what very few people knew is that Josef's hatred of his father went far beyond that. Josef remembered being abused and beaten badly as a child, and was also the sole witness to his mother's murdur, which he knew his corrupt father was behind.
Despite all this, when Josef did come to power, and personally killed both his half-brother and father, he was a fairly kind ruler, he kept up with the freedom of speech, and democratic ideals of the past, before his father, but also carried on the tradition, of exacution without trial of anyone who mentioned royal family connections to satanism or the occult.

Cel Frumos Coat-of-Arms. (I am not too great at MS Paint, but it works) Its a kind of make-believe Fish loosly modeled on the Barbados flag and a macaroni penguin, also loosly modeled on the South Georgia Flag.

The young boy enjoyed his day, with each step his heart lept for joy. He was soon to be 12, and in his fathers eyes he would finally be a man. A great party was to be had, though it was a little over a month away, the boy couldn't help but grow ever more excited. His father and older brothers were already out tending their crops, his sisters scattered about taking care of their chores. He ventured out down toward the creek, a frequent place for swimming and such. From this spot, he could see everyone that traveled on the road through Seville, for it had to cross over the creek.
Suddenly bells began to ring in the distance, not bells of celebration, but bells of warning. Within minutes the sound of bells were echoing around the boy, causing him to panic. He picked himself up and ran back toward the house; he could see his brothers and sisters doing the same thing. His father, spoke quickly, telling his sons to follow him to the barn while ordering his wife and daughters to hide in the cellar. The boy followed his father, but was pushed away, being told that he was too young to carry arms, that he must go and protect his mother and sisters. The boy reluctantly obeyed.
As he sat in the cellar, his mother was comforting the young ones, keeping them calm and quiet. After 20 minutes passed, the boy couldn't help but be curious, he looked through the small window. What he saw was unimaginable; the crops on the hill side were a fire, soldiers marched down the road carrying long swords, knights could be seen slaughtering the animals and butchering innocent people, and his father and brothers lay dead on the ground. Seville hadn't stood a chance, they had no standing army and were completely surprised. As he kept looking onward, tears began to fall from his eyes and quiet sobs came from his throat.
All heads in the cellar turned as footsteps were heard above. His mother lept to her feet, opened the window, and told him to climb out. She baracaded the door as best she could and began pushing her daughters up through the window. It wasn't enough, soldiers burst in and began psychotically swinging their swords, spilling blood everywhere. The mother had only enough time to hand one of her daughters through the window before her head was severed. The boy watched as his sisters and mother were slaughtered by these barbarians. His eyes met with one of the soldiers and they began running out of the cellar. He picked up his younger sister and ran for the creek.
There was no where to hide. Wait, the bridge, perhaps they wouldn't look there. He hudled down into the cool waters and waded up the creek, taking shelter under the small stone bridge beneath the road. He heard hundreds of knights and soldiers cross over the bridge that day, the only thing that kept him from running out and being killed by them was his younger sister, Isabella.

OOC: Sorry for my late orders

Turn 1: To Build Anew

Officer Searches:
Lord Shrubbery: Success! You convince a strong, slightly hunchbacked warrior named Lancvil to join your cause.
Gustav: Double success! You find an officer, who also happens to be a highly attractive young lady known as Alexandra Kerensky. She is immediately smitten by your rugged good looks and agrees to be your consort as well.
(OOC: Alex, you got the luckiest rolls ever. :p)

Ruler of Wales joins Stalintopia!

In a surprise move, Arthur Brewyn decides he doesn’t really care all that much about Welsh independence, and chooses to join up with Emperor Josef’s rapidly expanding kingdom. Some of his people, however, are rather displeased with his new position. All but a few of his soldiers have left his army and remained loyal to Wales, and many of the citizens in his landholdings have begun refusing to pay taxes. However, most of the soldiers that have remained loyal to Arthur are better-trained officers, and because of his reputation as a master tactician the rebels have decided to not start open conflict against him.

Constantinople descends into chaos!

The fragile union that produced the city-state seems to have dissolved almost instantly. After a petition by Sulemain the Magnificent for the city to join the new Ottoman Empire split the equally Arab/European assembly 12-12. With no method of tiebreaking, the decision was deadlocked, and nothing was done. In protest, the Arab nobles have declared their loyalty to Sulemain and begun open revolt. Though the Europeans have a slight numerical advantage, the surprise attack by the Arab faction caused greater casualties on the European side. The city itself has been severely damaged by the fighting, and opportunistic robbers have raided its gold stores.

Constantinople: -1 eco level, -1 banked eco
Europeans: -50 men
Arabs: -25 men

Hungary kills Wallachian emissary!

The somewhat paranoid Hungarian king mistook the Wallachian messenger as a spy, and using his newly raised archers, shot him full of 14 arrows. Many Wallachians see this as an outright act of aggression; it is unknown whether King Josef will see this as cause for war.

Scottish Aggression increases!

Feeling betrayed by Arthur’s defection to the Stalintopians, Angus MacDuff has remained in stalwart opposition to the new British kingdom, rallying more troops to his cause. While not openly hostile yet, the thinly veiled animosity may not take long to boil over.

Anti-Roman sentiment rises in Venice!

In response to King Benitolini’s caustic remarks of the new Kingdom of Latium, anti-Roman feeling is taking hold of more Venetian citizens. They accuse Rome of parading in former glory, when Venice should be the new ruler of Italy. A popular new pastime in Venice is the drawing of crude graffiti depicting Imperator Machiavelli in lewd positions with barnyard animals. Donkeys are currently leading dogs as the most commonly portrayed animal, at 6 murals to 4, respectively.

Seville’s reputation spreads!

With King Phillippe’s orders for his off-duty soldiers to assist in the agriculture of his estates, his popularity has risen greatly throughout his lands. As his word of his benevolent rule spreads, people in newly discovered territory accept his rulership happily.

(Seville: +Popular support)

Random Events:
William discovers his family shield is of much better quality than initially believed. (+1 War)
Enthusiastic soldiers rally to Wallachia’s new flag. (+100 men)
The city of Cordoba agrees to join the Kingdom of Seville. (+ Cordoba)

General, we have map. Repeat, we have map.

When can we expect the map?

Right now. :p

Maybe i shouldn't complain about being bad lucked anymore...

Oh, and because I've gotten a couple of inquiries about this, it is assumed that an officer with a mate will... attempt to produce progeny. It does not take up a turn for either, and a check based on both potential parents' Ages will be made every turn until conception is achieved.
