SSE / WE Walkthrough for BtS (Immortal, HC, Insane Series)

1320
A man from another continent called Joao meets us.
-ni

1340
Another GP arrives.
-ni

1390
And now a guy called Sitting Bull greets us.
-ni

1430
Finally, some crazy guy called Asoka runs into us as well.
That makes all 7 (umm, errr 6) civs now known to us.
-ni

1470
Finally, the religious war starts. My friend in blue declares war on Willem. It took a while, but the gears for the plan are now in motion.
-ni

1490
Another Great Engineer. Woohoo! I just love having little to no artist pollution in my wonder factory.
-ni

1510
And now, we complete the Statue of Liberty at the end of this turn. Normally I bypass this whole tech route when on Immortal/Deity, however we seemed quite ahead in this BtS edition of Civ IV, that I decided to beeline for this wonder. It’s one that even when it doesn’t benefit me much, I like to take it just to steal it from another civ who may get lots of power from it.

Note: Next tech on the list, scientific method! I want to jump up the media branch next, then back-sell them for military ones.

1515
We capture another city through culture flipping. It’s nice to finally get a wonder resource, but unfortunately marble is no use to us anymore. :( Oh well, we did fine without it all this time anyhow.

1515.JPG

1625
I signed a protection pact with our neighbour in blue. I suppose he is the BtS version of Cyrus, but hard to tell as I’m still figuring things out as I go about things here.
-ni

1640
We receive a great merchant. I don’t mind these guys at all, only because the +1f makes up a little for not having any hammers.
-ni

tech_lead.JPG

Nice, we are actually quite ahead in the races still.

1655

Broadway ready for completion.

Note: Researching radio. I love this tech even more now, because it comes with an extra wonder now. And I really do think that CR is a powerful one.

1675
I get my friend in blue to declare war on Asoka. Just maybe it will do something to slow down Asoka’s plan for a culture win.
-ni

1710
We are told our empire now holds 10 million
-ni

1715
Rock n Roll ready for completion sir!

Always get this before Eiffel tower. It is far more important.

Note: Researching Mass Media now. Though it will be a quite a few turns before we can even start on the HollyWood.

Spoiler :
1715.JPG

1740
Cristo Redentor ready for completion!
Only after this, will we start on the Eiffel Tower.

Note: Steam Power almost researched. Our workers will get to laying down railroads very soon. I can’t wait to railroad lumbermills and mines.

Spoiler :
1740.JPG

1760
Eiffel tower is now finally ready for completion. At least this gets some more culture in our cities online faster (and happiness). But it also will slow down any cultural victories by other Ais who may have had a shot at building it.

Note: Researching assembly line. I don’t really care about the infantry just yet, but I do want factories, and a shot at the Pentagon.

Spoiler :

civics.JPG

These are my most favourite civics for this whole game. Though a bit strange, as most of the time I favour free religion over OR. This game things went much better the OR route though.

1775
A Great Artist arrives???
WTH. After all this effort to avoid artist pollution, and look what happens. That just goes to show you, even when leaving things down to a 1% chance, it will just come up and bite you in the ass sometimes.
-ni

1785
And finally, the last media wonder, HollyWood is ready for completion.
My next goal is to go after the Three Gorges Damn.

Note: Technically I want to go after the UN, but we will cancel production at the last hammer so we don’t build it. This will give us a lot of gold, and it's ok if we miss out on the wonder because it is generally a bad wonder to have for many reasons.

Oh well, the good news is if you build it by accident, you can now DEFY UN resolutions, so it’s not the end of the world like it seemed to be in Warlords.

Spoiler :

1802
We gain another fully functional city without lifting a finger to claim it.

1802.JPG

1814
A Ninja arrives.
-ni

1826
Another GS arrives
-ni

1832
The Three Gorges Damn is now ready for completion.

Note: We are going after computers now. I really want to make the Internet as my next project.

Also, I didn’t take any shots but incase you are wondering, a while back I had built the Oxford and the IronWorks national wonders and placed them inside my capital as soon as they were available. I consider these most optimal for a WE system.

Spoiler :

1850
Completed internet wonder.
-ni

Note: Techs gained were--

monoethism
theology
divine right
medicine

1856
A message declares we now hold 20 million.
-ni

P.S. We also just completed the Mahattan project. Now I am going to nuke the hell out of Asoka to prevent him from pulling off a cultural victory on me. He is putting all his money into culture, and that will be his downfall. I will nuke him with my fortress city until every tile of his is covered in fallout.

I will even gift techs and uranium to my friend in blue so we can do even more damage to Asoka.
-ni

1860
And now, I declare war on Asoka, and I start to nuke the God damn hell out of him!
Muahaha…
Due to slipping so far behind on tech, he is ages away from nuke defences, and that’s a lesson he will learn the hardest way possible now.
-ni

1862
Another GS arrives.
-ni

1888
I bribed Khanu to war on Joao and sitting bull
-ni

1896
Williams declares war on me. WTH? Must be Asoka bribing him. What an idiot!

Note: He really was stupid. He attacked my northern city with a few units, suiciding them into my much more modern (and stronger) units. He had some of his other cities stacked with about 20 cannons each, for defence?

Nope... he eventually tried to use them…. Right when I had tanks… buwahaha.
It’s the AI, it’s stupid.

-ni

1901
A GP arrives
-ni

1903
How did I get this artist?

I don’t know what the hell is going on, LOL. Obviously, I put the National park in this city due to the forest abundance, but I felt it was optimal to couple it with the NE. Unfortunately, the NE adds a spec of artist pollution (unavoidable). And now I get the second artist in a row from this city at very low odds to gain one.

Look for yourself, you think that was fair? LOL

Oh well, this was the last GA ended up receiving this game, which is the good news. I can’t remember now if it was this GA, or the one previous which I used to build a corporation with. I cant’ take advantage of corps because of State Property, but since GA’s don’t contribute hammers, I figured it may be best to take the corporation before Asoka could get a chance, then use that to boost his culture victory.

If this were Warlords, I would have settled him to at least get the 3 beakers and 4 gold out of him.

1903.JPG

1904
A GG arrives because of all this fighting.
-ni

1906
Asoka agrees to peace. Ok, whatever.
-ni

1910
Oh boy is Willem in for it now. I am totally cleaning up all his cities now. What a lot of previous stupidity on his part. The question is, should I make him a vassal, or destroy him completely?

1910.JPG

1916
Joao declares war ???
That bastard!

No problem, I now bribe my buddy in blue to attack Joao too!
-ni

sneak_attack.JPG

Look at this sneaky tactician. Plans a sneak attack and he screws it up. He didn’t quite realize that nukes can hit ships. And guess what? I have a couple ICBMs online due to my hammer economy.

Bye bye ships!
No more sneak attack.

Oh, some survived, due to the Star Wars defence project. But at least I killed a transport and the other units were so heavily damaged, they couldn’t do much.

I also bribed Khmer to war again :P
-ni

1919
Well, after taking everything but the last 2 cities, I decide to take him as my vassal, only because he will give me his last remaining city (on a nearby tiny continent). This will give me a little bit of a bonus, and also keep his capital putting culture pressure against my buddy in blue.

P.S. One more GG arrives.

Note: And now that Willem vassaled to me, he has no choice but to automatically join me in my current war vs Joao. LOL

vassalize.JPG

1921

Some news about this one. Unfortunatly I couldn’t build it in my main capital due to geographic issues, so I ended up building this in Seoul. Technically I could have made it quite a few turns earlier, but I went up a wrong tech by accident, due to my newbiness at the new Tech Tree structure in BtS. I’ll not make that same mistake again.

1921.JPG

Time to show a detailed shot of the unhappiness problem I am going through. As you can see, defying resolutions can really be painful. However, I am NOT interested in losing my state-propery civic, or any of my other presets.

Note: Even with my city at stagant, I am capable of making some space ship parts like casings in a single turn. In fact, the total hammers starting at this turn are 1008. I feel rather good about this, all our hard work is still paying off here, and continues. BtS also has even more space ship parts than before, so our powerhouse will be able to still work continually, being as efficient as possible. I also am able to make ICBMs in just a single turn when using overflow. And I am definitely maxing that out!

unhappy.JPG

1926
And yet another city just can’t resist joining our empire peacefully.
Or was it they were afraid of all the nuking going on?

1926.JPG

1927

Peace with Jaoa fails because my vassal denied me during a voting!
ni

1928

Made peace with Joao anyway. So take that vassal!
-ni

1932

A GE in Seoul arrives.
-ni

1948
Now here is something you don’t see every day. Just plain citizens working as specialists, despite I could chose much more productive ones.

The reason I am doing so, is because the priest and engineer slots are maxed out. None of the other slots will produce hammers, but a citizen can! And since projects can not be rushed by gold, I need pure hammers. This is just another reason why I hate cottages so much for production. They are not really TRUE production, even when you have the capability of the US civic. You’ll never rush a project with cash, even if you had unlimited amounts of it. No space ship parts, no Manhattan project, no Internet, or even Apollo program can be built with cash. You NEED hammers, and this is where hammer economies really dominate over anything else.

P.S. At around 1958 I declared war on Asoka and Joao AGAIN, considering the game is practically over. Joao had nuke defence so I didn’t do much there, but once again I nuked the hell out of Asoka’s two continents.

Spoiler :
1948.JPG

No explanation needed. Except I could have launched earlier if I wanted.

launch11.JPG

Last turn of the game, lets see. Nope, Asoka missed his cultural run, so no luck for him.
All that nuking really did put an end to his plan of easy victory.
