Hello again all. There are two games on my hard drive that I am planning to sort out and compile. I'm reserving this thread for now for one which (and I do hate to spoil stories) I found myself with a bit of aggressive neighbour(s), which I wasn't exactly thrilled about.

Other than that, there is nothing really NEW, so if you've been getting bored of everything else of mine then no need to read further.

For the reccord, this will be my second last writeup for Immoral. Anything else I do after these last 2 games are written up will from now on be deity only, unless I'm doing something 'experimental'.

Note: If anyone wants to be my successor and beat me to the deity SSE/WE walk-throughs, then be my guest.

PART I

And so, our journey begins.

The BC era, where everything here, sets up everything else in the future…

4000 BC
Well, some good, and some bad. Settler is sitting on a hills/plains which will give me an extra production boost, and city defense if it comes down to that. The pigs I don’t care about, as I rarely go for AH early so it is no interest to me ATM. I’m not happy about the lake next to me (despite the health bonus) as I can not turn it into a production tile (ever). I also wish I had more trees about, as those +1f +1h tiles really seem to be useless to me right now too, but what can you do.

Time to settle (first), and then move the warrior. Popping the hut with the warrior would be silly, as you risk getting a bad event, when the city borders would ensure a good result.

Met Gilgamesh (yes, that quick!) I’m not too thrilled about this. He must be close by, and he is rather vicious. With a base peaceweight of 2, and a pp of x/x/90/100 (IIRC), I reallllly am not too thrilled to say the least! This will require some very sensitive work here, and hopefully he gets occupied with others.

3520 BC
Met Genghis Khan.
Ok, now I’m really, really, really not getting pleased here. And just my luck would be that I’m all alone vs these guys. This causes me to change my tech pattern. Remember how I used to avoid AH? Well now I am really considering going after it, as horses would give me a military UU, and at LEAST I could use it on the pigs if I fail to pop up horses. I want to have some sort of safety net incase I get hit here.

And now, this is where we stand. The Great Hall is ready for completion.
The BTS generator was generous again to give us stone near our starting site. Unfortunately it just isn’t close enough to take advantage of (just yet). So the wall ended up being chopped without it. At least we can use it later for pyramids. A quick math of the culture points now (and future) assure us of that. And I will be waiting that exact pop-time with workers on the spot to make a quarry.

Barbs already pop up in just 15 turns on Immortal and this wall sure will make things easier for us. Against our two opponents not so much if they rush us in the near future, but it does increase our power rating a little, which does help to prevent a rush in the first place.

Note: 4 turns left for Mysticism, I need to go up this tech route anyway, so doing it ASAP in order that we may be able to get the StoneFence too.

2080 BC
Noooo!
Last turn to complete StoneFence (if we whipped), and we lost the race!!!!
-ni

1680 BC
Hydromids is ready for completion.
One of my favourites, and thanks to stone, there is still a couple tiles within our borders that haven’t been chopped yet. Haha.

Spoiler :
1680bc.jpg

Note: Production wise, our starting location sucks. Only two hills to use, but again you just have to put-up with what you get. I farmed two river tiles which had a single HAMMER on each just to try and get some extra build/growth power here. I’m really going to have production problems, but the pigs will help here, AFTER I finish priest hood and pick up AH.

Time to settle our first sister city…
And of course, when I find a patch of marble, I just HAVE TO HAVE IT! But we have a problem here. Gilga is here. I was planning to settle right on-top of the patch so I could hook it up instantly in time for my Pair-of-Dimes project. In fact, I already made a road preparing for this moment. But we must re-evaluate what has happened.

Gigla is too close here, and border pressure will be enough to probably set him off in a fury. So, I’m just going to settle right here. The marble will still be in my culture border, but I will not be pressuring Gigla just yet. Also, I am NOT going to build an obelisk either at this point. There is no point in growing our borders here at all. Later on, I may even GIFT this city to Gigla when I’m done using the marble resource, but if not, I will probably make this spot into my National Park city later on.

1040 BC
WTH? Next turn already I get a note asking to join the Sumerian Empire. Boy Immortal does get crazy sometimes.

900 BC
Yes!! One of my favourite moments that befall me. The Temple of Art.

It is said, that ToA is too hard to get on Monarch, and impossible on Emperor. But here you see, we will get it. With some micro-management, and ahead-timing, we can trim our timeline enough to get it a sufficient amount of times even on this level.

Now note some things here. It is true that we are still 3 turns away from completion. But suddenly we are able to shave off the 3 turns if we pop rush. I checked and the option was available. Note at the top of the screen, it indicates we immediately swapped to slavery this turn (just for this event). And while it will cost us half our population to pop-rush at this point. I’m going to bite the bullet and do so. I simply don’t want to risk losing this baby, and a quick F9 check shows that we won’t lose to a tie if we rush it now. So just DO IT!

Note: Horses were popped up within a fat cross. That is GOOD! Because it adds more hammer input to our poor production city.

900bc.jpg

P.S. I know Vale is probably looking at this and rolling his eyes. Yes, I know there is a significant rush penalty when rushing wonders. And yes, I know that if I’m going to whip population, I should do it on another building BEFORE I start the wonder, so I don’t get penalties on the overflow…

And yes, yes… I know that if I was protective here, I could have used that stone source to first build a WALL, and then I could chop two trees and pop rush at the end, which would give me an effective 50h and 660g overflow with mathematics but pre-currency (marathon speed), lol. And THEN I could still throw the 50h overflow penalty-free onto the ToA, and then get a marble production multiplier on the 50h doubling it to 100h, etc.

Unfortunately, I just don’t have the time for marathon speed, or for any Immortal game to exploit all the base-hammers just the way I want because every single turn I lose is a risk I lose something very important. And that’s my final excuse…

550 BC
City #3 is going up… I wanted to settle to the west but damn that Gilga, he started to push up there a big again. I figured I’d try to land grab over here in the East for now. It’s a good spot, despite the ugly peak. It has a fish source, and one corn, with horses too. So it will be up and running great in no time. Now, if only I can try to push down south a little over here too, then I’ll have 4 cities and only have to worry about a two more, which I’m willing to put in junk-locations if I have to.

Note: 12 turns to Aesthetics, which is important to me not just for the Poor Library, but the PairOfDimes.

G-Spy pops.
Time to absorb him, (never waste them on infiltration).
1 round left for aqueduct (and I need health bad!)

Noooooo! Was so close to the Flying Gardens but it was completed in far-away land…
Arggghhh! You see what I’m talking about?

Random event (I hate these), and I have buildings destroyed (I hate that too).

PairOfDimes is coming online.

God damn, I still can’t get over I have the ToA nicely displayed in my Wonder’s list. The more I play this game, the more I fall in love with it, despite so many other people say it’s over-rated for the huge cost.

Spoiler :
100bc.jpg

Note: Two priests running, due to UB. Why I have them running? Well, I need hammers, and nothing on the terrain gives more than 1h that is left. And my happiness cap is maxed already (so is health). Besides, I’ll be needing to dilute the PairOfDimes pollution now.

Next tech to finish up, is CoL. It has nothing to do with lowing my expenses, but is more about my tech path to liberalism, and a few other GPP generators which I am after.

25 BC
Founded Confucianism (on purpose).

Yup, that’s right. Usually it’s an accident when I found religions, but I have a plan. I am going to adapt this religion instantly, while sending my missionary straight to Gilga. I really want to bring up his diplo modifiers really, really fast, as his base-peace-weight is only at 2. And since no one seems to have a religion, I won’t have to worry about getting into a religious war myself.

25bc.jpg

Note: Chariots (my UU) are being built in my sister city. I’ve been cranking these out not just to make my power look stronger to prevent an attack, but also to act as a safeguard incase that attack actually does happen. I don’t trust any of these two guys at all, at least, not until I get them both to friendly status.

I’m afraid, one way or another… there is going to be war. And while it is quite possible to keep Gilga at peace, I’ve noticed Khan always is looking for an excuse to attack someone no matter what. IIRC HIS base pace weight is actually 0.

And now, what tech would you think I should go after next?

Lets get ready for some bloodshed…

End of Part I…

A solid WE is pretty much based on the idea that you get stone and marble. Personally, I map out my surroundings and research BW, then start the game if I am satisfied with my ability to "make it work". Some take that technique even further, by regenerating UNTIL they get both stone and marble and good resource/tile patterns.

On levels I know I can win regardless, I play more blind, but at higher levels, it just plain sucks to spend an hour starting a game, only to discover that you have no stone, marble, copper or iron within 20 tiles of your home square.

Note: I am not saying Obsolete does this, personally, I think he plays a bunch of games with his target "lesson", then picks the game he wants to finish and use for these posts. Its not very instructive to see a boring chop-fest game where you grind the AI down over the course of 100 turns, so he doesnt show us those games (thank goodness, LOL)

Did you consider moving the settler 1S for river access and more mines?

I simply don’t want to risk losing this baby, and a quick F9 check shows that we won’t lose to a tie if we rush it now.
Have you ever lost a tie? If I can pop rush the wonder I always get it.

Bleys-, I pretty much post my games as they come in. I don’t have any control over the generator, so I just get what I get. I did post elsewhere that in the games I’ve been playing as of late, it seems stone is pretty close to the capitals statistically more than I think it generally should. But I really haven’t posted that many games to prove anything.

Anyhow, I was hoping there wouldn’t be stone in this one actually, so I could do something a little different. But I can’t resist taking advantage of everything I can, as that’s the nature of the game. And if I were one to use re-generation, then some of the past walkthroughs I’ve done would have never been played out.

Anyhow, as much as I am against map regeneration, after this game I started 7 others. All 7 had stone near by, or within range to grab. And as I said, I can’t resist taking a bargain, as that’s inbred in all good players. So I was forced to quit those games and start anew just so I wouldn’t be tempted. Good news is I got one (will post after this one is done) where I was stone-free. Actually there was stone around of course, just out of my hands.

I assume Binky also sure doesn’t get Iron either when he is playing Romans. I just have no control over that, so hopefully he can find some ways to just TAKE IT. With myself, I pretty much always could get an iron source with Romans, only in very rare cases would there be non present. I wonder if that means I’m still lucky, or is most other players in the same boat? I think it’s quite rare NOT to get iron, cause that’s when I see people posting on the forum crying how wrong it was to get iron-screwed, like it’s never supposed to happen.

Gliese- I don’t move settlers on Immortal (very rarely) because losing the first turn hurts so much. And even when I feel moving 1 spot somewhere is superior, it often turns out that later a resource pops up near by, and then you realize it was a mistake to move, had you known before hand. Generally, the generator is supposed to put you in an optimum spot. Of course, it always isn’t 100% accurate, but more than enough, I that I just TRY to trust it.

Lord Chambers- I have lost a tie pop-rushing wonders MANY, MANY, MANY TIMES. This is why I ALWAYS hit the F9 key now, and I don’t have to worry anymore.

Part II

The race to Liberalism...

GP Pops.
Last turn for a library to complete.
4 Turns left on literature tech.

Sure enough, Khan declares war on someone. Good thing Gilga is between me and him (or so it seems). Poor Gilga is going to have to deal with him probably till the end of the game now, unless one of them gets crippled very bad.

And alas, we are completing the Poor Library here. Don’t feel shy on trading around Aesthetics, as we won’t be losing any wonders now. Not that we have to worry too much here, but Gilga, despite being non-industrious, does in fact have a shiny factor for wonders. I know, it’s stupid but that’s what he is like.

City #4 is going up. I chose this spot because there is a clam source, and I’ll be able to get it. I don’t think I will have to worry about Gilga’s culture taking it from me. And he’ll be so tied up in wars from this point, I should be ok.

Chicken Pizza is ready for completion.

Note. Happiness is caped at 9 now. Our health doesn’t seem too bad at this height.

A massive barbarian uprising is occurring. Attila the Hun leads his forces in a crusade against the very concept of civilization.

Note:: Who the bloody hell cares? We have the Great-Hall.

Anyhow, as for the inside of our capital…
Anger-What is ready for completion.

Time for some double-priest power…

Buwahaha! All those barbarian horse-archers that sprung up couldn’t move into my lands, so they were forced to go to the next nearest target. That happened to be a city Gilga put up near my southern outpost. And despite his brute nature, even Gilga couldn’t protect his city from falling to the barbarians. LOL!
-ni

Trying to get some more cities/land peacefully, I decided to blitz in my own horses to the new barb city. Actually, there isn’t even a barbarian unit defending it. And poor Gilga, his swords-man wont get there in time, all the while he is still fighting Khan.

The great thing is, I get one of Gilga’s cities (pop 7) and it costs me nothing, not even a diplo penalty. It just doesn’t get better than this. Thanks Great-Hall! I really am loving these barbarian uprisings.
