SSE/WE with a Pack of Wolves (Immortal WT)

1850
* Stole Corporation tech.

*Also, decided to use another GA to found the Civilized Jewlers corp.

* Also, Hollywood is read for completion.

Note: I’m having some massive starving problems here, due to work-shops. But it was a penalty we had to pay to shave off a turn or two.

Made defense pact with Gilga. Not that we have to.
And this can only mean on thing, that we are at friendly status with Gilga. Despite I own a bunch of his cities :P

Stupid.. stupid… stupid!
Khan decides to BS me. Alright, maybe it wasn’t exactly a BS but… can’t he see I signed a defense pact? So stupid. I have a tech lead, and now it’s 2 vs 1. WTH is he thinking?

· We gain a GG.

An update. We did lose a city, our border one which Khan (sneak-attacked). I had a decent stack in it I thought, and we slaughtered the first wave. But unbeknown to me, there was a GIGANTIC stack of cuirasairs just behind it. And and unfortunately, his overwhelming numbers ended up getting the better of my higher tech & fortified units. Oh well. The good news, is that after drafting the hell out of everything, and cranking out marines, I was able to re-take it back eventually, before Gilga did.

And now, even though Khan has cavalry, I was able to take another city from him at what almost looks like a choke-point. So technically, I still came out significantly ahead during this war. Thanks…. Sneaky IDIOT!

Oh well, lets make peace now and see what else he will give us.

Just an update… I have tones and tones of spies at this point over on the other continent. Joao and Willem are running away on me. So I decided to target for a hell of a lot of sabotage over there. Willem is dominating and conquering everyone there, and only Joao can contest him.. barely.

And time, to start off with a BANG.
Willem is crushing Joao too bad, after I bribed him into a war with Willem. Oh well, I will try to help out this mess a little bit by nuking the hell out of Napoleon, who is Willem’s vassal. At least napoleon doesn’t have SDI yet.

1958
Eventually Willem vasseled the whole continent of his, and we were forced to give up our aid. Oh well, what a mess we’ve got ourselves into with that beast.
But now, that we’ve ended one war, we start ANOTHER. Time to blitz into Khan, and finish the job. Another big bang reserved for some special moments here, just to make things easier. Of course, I don’t want to send too many big bangs here, and demolish our future territory too much.

Note: Great artist or two I the rear. Only good thing they are good for now, is to take a city instantly out of revolt when we capture them. Sadly, I was to discover how terribly nerfed GA’s were in this last patch. They didn’t do a god damn thing for culture. I guess Firaxis caught on that the GA’s were the most sought after, and deadliest, most powerful great-person in the game, and took action to prevent its dominance from crushing the game. O_o

Way to Go!

We capture the last city. And now, no more Khan. While he was agreeing to peace/vassal, we refused. Why settle for just half the votes, when we can get 100% by easily eliminating him altogether?

**

We attack again, this time on our old friend Gilga. For the first time, we take cities from him, and get him pissed at us for doing so. But too bad. We set our battle-plan up to take 3 cities in the first turn, and his tanks and anything else out in the open are mopped up the same time with our helicopters. The AI just doesn’t know how to handle multiple-fronts, and will end up dying here miserably.

Hmm, Gilga has a military stack all of a sudden here. Oh well, lets just drop a nuke (or two) on it to weaken it. And then mop it up cheaply. I really don’t want to stall things here, I’m taking a city a turn and that’s how I like to keep my big thrusts going.

Note:: Looks like Roosevelt got executed by Willem.

We are researching Fiber Optics. Our internet project is useless again, because Willem is so far advanced no one else can rival him but us.

And there it is. Victory.

BTW, the little fallout in our territory you see there isn’t from the AI’s. That’s from me. Yup, I nuked my own territory even. This happened when Joao landed a stack beside my city trying to take it. I dropped some on him just to obliterate him.

2033.jpg

Note: We dropped a ton of nukes on the other continent but, barely any got through. The good news, is some at least did manage to impact. Not that they made much difference.

And so… ends this tale of 7 civs.

impressive as always. 2033ad seems a bit late for space victory, i swear my immortal AIs reach space by 2000 tops. still another excellent example of a strategy i will probably never use. but then again, i am quite stubborn. good read.

...2033ad seems a bit late for space victory, i swear my immortal AIs reach space by 2000 tops....

I presume all those spy works had wrecked havoc on AI's production and research rate.

Obsolete, I wonder if you sabo those juicy towns and villages? I like that tactics very much, especially toward financial guys.

I never sabo towns. I would much rather drop nukes on cottage rich squares, as you can obliterate 100% maybe 5-6 tiles of them. I prefer to keep my spy points for more important jobs, like stealing techs and sabotaging SS-Engine & Docking Bays.

I think I'm going to pretty much stop using poison and unhappiness on the high levels. It seems to not work here, (too much AI bonuses), and I guess with a big enemy like Willem here, he gets so many resource bonuses being a master of vassals, it probably doesn't add much a scratch.

Anyhow, some things I left out. I did run one more golden age near the end, combing a GA with another great person. Man, did we have bad luck with those duds or what?

And most importantly, in the victory conditions list, he had 2 cities at leagendary almost, and a third was getting close. The third one would have been much closer, but I had nuked it a few times, to prevent the cultural vic. I also had kept trying to get Willem to swap civics with my spies, to mess up his culture rush. Both Willem and the Egyptian leaders seem to pretty much shut down near the end of the game and focus on getting 3 cities to legendary status. They'll basically drop the ball on everything else, and that's why he didn't even bother attacking me (though his vassals did).

I used to ignore Stonehenge in every game I played until I started reading your SSE games. Nowadays its one of my favorite wonders for those early GPriests and the nice culture boost early on (which synergizes so well with GW). It was sad seeing Stonehenge in an enemy city like that... all alone... makes it look like a petty, worthless pile of stones instead of the powerhouse it should be.

I love reading these walkthroughs Obsolete. I notice the one wonder you seem to avoid is the A.P., is this because you tend to avoid religion for diplomacy purposes? I've been using a variation of your wonder spam strat but focusing on getting the A.P., I find the production bonus it gives empire wide is HUGE, ( plus I like getting a theocracy early for good troops when I need them ) its like a free iron mine in each city. Its also very fun to use it to dogpile a heathen civ or stop an unwanted war against you. I only play monarch though so maybe its not feasable on higher levels?

Wow the beauty of smaller maps, faster gamespeeds and less AI. I have never seen an immortal game where liberalism isnt popped before 700 AD, but 1200 thats just astounding. Nice use of nuclear deterents, and an amazingly "early" 2033 space victory. A true example of first class wonder whoring, most likely took a lot of opportunities from the AI somehow preventing them from having laser and a small chance at victory.

Willem had laser pretty early, and that was a real bad spot for me. And then he gave it to his vassals too it seems after a while. Though gilga and Khan were a different story. Super-Aggressive leaders just suck, plain and simple. They fall off the tech race and never catch up. Too many obsolete units, that the human can over-come with better units & better promotions.

As for the AP, yes I avoid religion a lot. And the whole monoeithism tech branch is just horrible, and full of junk. So I love nothing more then letting the AI waste beakers on them by itself :P And sadly, even if you could get your AP, and convert people, you'd be giving them the bonus TOO. Now, why should I take all the risk and do everything while they ride off FREE at MY expense?

Anyhow.... and now it is time for...
