Anyone here been watching Star Trek Remastered?

If so, what do you think of it so far? I've only seen 2 eps thus far, but I have seen some pics... I think it seems to be getting better and better with each upcoming episode...

For those that haven't seen it, here's a sample of pictures...

From the episode "I, Mudd"

All I can say is WOW!

That looks really good. I've always loved the orginal Star Trek but now I have an excuse to fall in love all over again, thanks!

I'm all for the digital enhancements, as long as they don't actually replace characters (Return of the Jedi old Anakin vs. new Anakin...argh!) or alter the story line.

Nah they're not gonna do a whole deal like "Han shot first!" At the most they're fixing errors and goofs and such, matte scenes, and the space scenes of course...

Plus they're adding new effect shots (where it is applicable) like spaceships in the background and such (or fixing say that freighter woden or the Auora (Hippy ship)), like in the episode "Arena" They put in a barely noticeable shot of the Gorn ship in one scene...

I wonder if they're gonna be making more shots like this? I'd like to see for example what Mudd's ship really looked like or say, a shot of the Starfleet and Klingon fleets in "Errand of Mercy"

Ultimately it comes down to one episode "The Doomsday Machine" This is the episode that sparked all this talk about digital CGI effects, and such and even spawned some test footage, so if the guys at CBS do this right, then it would most certainly have been worthwhile...

What killed Star Wars for me was the fact that Lucas in all is godlike supreme powers decided to alienate true Star Wars believers by pulling crap like Greedo shooting first etc.

From what I saw in the link it looks like nothing but cleaning up the old episodes. Pleae don't kill Star Trek for me though! No "Greedos shooting first" please.

Nah from what I've seen, they won't be doing stuff like that... eh?

Likewise, where the old Star Wars Trilogy was only released to DVD after "popular" demand, this may not be the case for Star Trek TOS, you can still get the old eps on DVD and such I guess once the Remastered series goes out on DVD

Sorry didn't read carefully your last post before mine :mischief:

That's the one thing I like about Star Trek vs. Star Wars. Star Wars is nothing but a money making machine. Star Trek has always been less commercialized and has been faithful to Gene Rodenberry's vision.

Damnit! The only station playing this in LA plays it Mondays at 12:05 AM!

It's called TiVo. Or ReplayTV. Or whatever the cable company calls their bundled DVR.

Embrace it, and it will serve you well. :)

But... but that costs me more of those papery things I'm trying to accumilate!

It's brilliant.

I've also been watching some of TNG and quite frankly it just doesn't hold up as well as TOS. They never came close to an episode like City on on the Edge of Forever and so many of the scripts just seemed to be reworkings of TOS ideas.

There will not be any Greedo shooting first changes at all. Perhaps a change to some of the ships, like when M5 blows up the Ore ship, which was the same prop ship as the Botany Bay. This is a welcomed change, I believe.

What about the action on a budget "The Best of Both Worlds I and II" ?

Or the simply magical episode "The Inner Light" ? :king:

It should also be noted that most ST:TOS eps practically copied one (I.E reused ideas, plots and such) another!

I thought those episodes were pretty good, and I enjoyed them, but didn't reach the heights of the best of TOS.

And no doubt, TOS borrowed heavily from a lot of other sources as well, including cribbing a lot of Shalespeare.

But, TNG relies in McGuffins too much, too much gibber speak, and too many episodes about people's children and their relationship with them. Sometimes it felt more like Eight is Enough than a sci-fi show.

Picard > Kirk.

Hardly. Picard was an effete snob. Kirk would has busted his chops.

No doubt, Patrick Stewart is a much better actor than Shatner, but the Kirk character was more fleshed out, more complex in the Star Trek Cannon, and overall much more exciting.

There are four lights! had me laughing.

Khan shot first? The Romulan Commander played by Mark Lenard is replaced by Hayden Christianson?

Im not a big Star Trek fan but I DVRed a couple of the new ones just to see the new stuff. Sucks for me cause NBC in the 'burgh plays it on Sunday night, so if football runs long it gets knocked back and screws up my record.

I liked the changes in the Romulan episode.
