The Defiant class was initiated in 2365 as a crash programm to develop a starship capable of fighting and defeating the Borg. The design incorporated several new weapons concepts, including the Quantum torpedo and phaser pulse cannon. The design and construction teams were briefed to produce a small, tough, simple to build vessel packing the maximum possible level of firepower. A secondary aim of the project was to develop new technologies for implementation in the Sovereign project and possibly into existing starship designs. The vessel which emerged from the design office was unlike anything ever contemplated by the Federation before. In place of the usual graceful structures, Defiant was a compact, boxy, almost ugly design. The central body is a three deck block with the a single deck bridge mounted on the top for four decks in all. The upper deck contains the bridge, engineering support spaces and some crew quarters. Deck two features main engineering, a simple medical bay, more crew quarters and the ships communal mess hall. The third deck includes the transporter room and ships storage and cargo bays and the deuterium fuel tanks. Deck four houses the ships replication storage tanks and systems, the antimatter fuel pods and the small shuttle bay. The single computer core is split between decks two and three.
The navigational deflector is located in a prominent housing on the ships bow, which also contains a probe launcher. Flanking the deflector housing are a pair of torpedo tubes capable of firing both Quantum and photon torpedoes. Aft of this the nacelles are fitted directly to the main hull, flanking the bridge. Each nacelle housing includes four warp coils and two of the ships pulse phaser cannon. The nacelles supporting equipment are contained within a fifth deck which hangs below the normal four; this deck is divided into three levels of crawl way spaces. Aft of the nacelles is the aft torpedo tube, and the ships armament is completed by a turret type phaser array aft of the bridge.

I have to figure out some way to incorporate this ship into some of the other world mods. It is the most awesome ship in the series.

Thanks

Yep - the Romulans let the Federation use a cloaked ship for the duration of the war (the treaty between them normally prohibits Starfleet from having cloaked vessels). I think Starfleet actually got the technology from a Jem Hadar ship.

The Jem'Hadar don't have cloak. the cloaking device on the Defiant is Romulan.

TheMorpheus: you tha king dude!

Star Fleet first obtained a functional cloaking device from the Romulans during the 2260s. The episode in particular was "The Enterprise Incident" (TOS). Technical fiction produced between 1974 and 1987 suggests that Star Fleet utlized cloaking technology aboard a variety of starship classes, including the Enterprise and Federation (II) classes.

Ofcourse the more recent aired Star Trek programs have gone out of there way to suggest that Star Fleet had no such technology until the Federation treaties with the Romulans in the late 2360s/early 2370s. It all depends on on your source perspective.

Anyway, good job on Defiant!

Hmm...well, I'm not really an expert concerning details. 'Seeing is believing,' and since I saw the Defiant cloaking in DS9 episodes, it would be nice to have it cloak Morpheus...although not necessary :D

I don't think it's really necessary, since the ship would be mainly used as a Defiant-class ship, which didn't all have cloaking devices anyway. I think. Might be neat to do a cloaking animation just for the Defiant itself though I guess.

It very good btw.

The defiant had a -romulan- cloaking device by permission only, under agreement not to use it in the alpha quadrant. In fact, originally there was a romulan security officer on-board the defiant for a few epps who had no purpose other than to push a button turning the cloaking device on and off. I'm not sure why the char left, but she was there for a few epps.

The treaty signed with the romulans sometime during the movies-era prohibited the federation from developing or using cloaking devices. The multiphasic cloak onboard the pegasus was in violation of the treaty, and the admiral responsible got *****slapped by picard and crew.

The dominion (jem hadar) do NOT have cloaking technology, and the klingons only have it due to a brief alliance during the orignal-series-era when the producers lost thier only model of a romulan ship and had to sub in a D7 klingon cruiser ... uh ... i mean, when the romulans wanted a brief alliance to trade technolgoy.... yes...

the only klingon ships which carry cloaking devices are the B'rel and K'vort class birds of prey, older D-7 style cruisers, and the Vor'Cha class battle cruiser. Of course, we dont see many klingon ships in the show that dont fall into one of these categories.... but surely, mods will have them.
