Don't know bout everyone else but unique units arent really used in civilization other than in army leaders.... and the leaders are generic looking. So unless we decide to make unique leaders (if thats possible) then they arent needed. Only unit shots would be the 3D facial animations of the leaders of each civ (which are NOT easy to do)

3D faces take a while and to animate them means creating blend shapes for various facial poses. Its good that they dont talk...

But human type units that we definetely need are
stormtroopers
jawas (if they are gonna be used)
wookies (if they will be used)
those little furry things (if they will be used)
those red stormtroopers (elite guard) ?
etc etc.
more generic based units that you can pump out.

I can probably model a storm trooper and then jus t use it for the speeder bike. Its good to be able to use a unit in more than one thing :)
 
Yeah, ive tryed everything i can to make unique leader units, but so far it seems to be impossible, and you cant limit a civ to making just 1 of a certain unit, so they probably wont be implemented because it wouldnt be very normal to see 50 Darth Vaders fighting against 50 Jar-Jars (though it would be really cool to watch Jar-JAr get slaughtered by Vader :D ) nEo you seem to have the most computer graphics experiance, so i hope you dont mind me relying on you for some of the harder stuff ;) Well i have today off so i plan on getting alot done today :D
 
Man, this is a blow, i too was debating a mod for Civ III based on Star Wars, focusing more on fleet than ground troops. My idea was to keep it as Empire and Republic, using several ships from Rebellion/Supremacy, but also incorporating units such as SSD, Eclipse II, Sovereigns etc. I'm basically using X-Wing Alliance OPT's as model bases, jm said i can use some of his, but so far, i'm mainly tinkering. Got to figure out how to get the Death Star in somewhere! :)
I have a few problems to get over, and a colossal tech tree and animation list to replace! Already built the Sovereign SSD, haven't tested it yet, and the ISDII is also nearly complete. Any thoughts or suggestions would also be appreciated. Not to steal this topic however, if anyone does have a suggestion (or can tell me how to change the font colours across the game) can they make a new thread entitled SW:AoE?

Lot of units eh Thinker? Good that they are so small in the game that you don't need tons of detail. If you look at the graphics made for the actually CIV III game in 3d most units have no real facial details, clothes are solid colors, etc. Boy that saves us trouble.

I was gonna work on some gungan stuff once I find good photos to work from later. I'll also need really really good photos of any leader heads if Im gonna attempt to make any 3d models of them. That means side and front views. Anyone know what size im supposed to render the unit animations at? I'll keep alpha channels so I can make it transparent later.

If this gets biggger (and im assuming it probably will) and anyone has access to some web space (pls not geocities or angelfire) I might be able to whip up a quick website for the mod. I do webdesign for a living so a simple one wouldnt be too difficult and we would be able to put up a list of what we need done, what we have accomplished, animations done, as well as post downloadable maps when complete, people who are working on the project, etc etc. Just a thought. Keep it in mind if this project progresses.

Ok flash work to do now, might have time to work on some more 3d later today or morrow...

OK, now to tell you all what developments ive made today. Default animation for the Awing is done, death started.

Ive had a major breakthrough in city names, though some civs still only have one or two. Total today ive found and implemented 74 new city names, 21 of them being for the Hutt Criminal Empire (i remembered that i had a book about the Hutts ;) 10 being Sullustian, and 12 being imperial.

12 new leader names, 6 hutt, 4 sullust, and 2 imperial.

The energy era (the first one) is complete with 21 new/renamed advances (left republic and monarchy the same)

2 new wonders:
Apollo Program = Outbound Flight Project
Strategic Missle Defense = Death Star Readouts

4 more commodities for a total of 6:
Gold
Silver
Spices
Ryll

I will have the Awing animation done sometime today, and i may post it (depending if i can find sounds).

awing animation done, dont have any sounds though :( I still have to get the large and small civilopedia pics for it. On a really really happy note. I changed the title pic, and the title music to resemble star wars. This is one of the most exiciting parts thats done that i can think of because now it has the real Star Wars 'feel' to it. I am now pleased to present, THE STAR WARS: A NEW MOD title pic. Enjoy :D
