Star Wars: The Mod - Unit requests

To be honest, I do not recall.
I downloaded 100's of models all at once and have no idea where individual ones came from other then a few given to me by others on this board.

But I know most of them do not come with any textures. I (with some help from Wyrmshadow) have been learning how to apply them better and to make my own.

How do you apply the textures?

I use Bryce, not poser. So I can't really help much.
But, basically I select the mesh to which I wish to apply a texture, select M (material), load the texture and select how to apply it (object space, world space, parametric, etc. 99% of the time I mainly use parametric (so the image is mapped proportional to the object).
I own Poser, but have not really used it. I bought it and bryce at the same time, and have had so much fun with Bryce that I've mostly stayed with it. I am learning other 3d apps, but my time is limited. So I had to choose if I spent time on Lightwave or Poser. For now, it is Lightwave, since it has a top of the line modeler and integrates very well with Bryce.

Ok, i finished polyphemus' tutorial, so i'll start working on an airspeeder (though since its my first try, don't expect anything great).

@Bjornlo- freakin' awesome! That is one kick-ass model!
@polyphemus- just do what is easiest for you. The unit will look awesome either way.
@SWC- I hope you catch on better than I did. There are some sites with free models that I linked into in the first page. If you are using OpenFX, you should look for 3ds models.

I posted this in the other thread (not sure which one to put it in, probably this one would be best) that since i have yet to understand the complex concepts of animating, and, yes, coloring  i will, for now, stick to modeling. I finished the airspeeder (my first unit- hope it doesn't suck) for the Rebel Alliance, so if anyone wants to animate it, just let me know and i'll email it to you.

Cool! I can't animate 3d stuff, but you are getting there. Anyhoo, here is the attack for TIE advanced. It was a royal b*tch to program, but I managed to cut'n'paste the TIE advanced on top of Chris85's TIE fighter attack. I hope he doesn't mind, :D. BTW; it's darker in the preview compared to the flc. Flic2gif seems to do that.
EDIT: Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1000th post!

Doing it the hard way, eh. It's getting better, the cockpit bobbles up and down in the south view. It doesn't seem to be rotating on a central point. What I mean by that is, its not going to be centered on the tile in all of the views.

I don't care if you use my TIE Fighter attack for it, I'm guilty for doing that myself from time to time. :mischief:

I might be stuck on the B-Wing. I can't seem to get the skeleton to work. I've skimmed through the tutorials, I'm going to double check em more closely after I leave here, any help would be nice. Skeletons are evil! :(

@CHris: Are you using openfx, if so i might be able to help?

That's what happens when you rotate the camera. If you rotate the model itself, then that won't happen.

oh, didnt know that. By the way just an update, the BIK intro movie is almost finished.

im going to have to delay the BINK intro since i really want to finish my SSD. Currently i already have 6 views done for the death animation. After that ill make a story board in SBB. Then im going to begin work on the attack. Im not sure what style of attack it should have. Im contemplating on whether i should do it the easy way but have it look weird in-game or do it the arduous way and have it look goo in game. (easy way being just having attack like a battleship and hard way being animating all those lasers). Sorry for the inconvinience.

good news: im almost done with my yoda unit
bad news: i need help

I completeed the attack animation and ghost pixels start to pop up in the exported flc from FLICster. I then re- export thestoryboard from that flc and erase the ghost pixels. Nevertheless, the ghost pixels still pop up in the same frames in the exported flc. Ive done this 5 times and havenot gotten a different result. So i need help on that and also, the extracted yoda attack is off center i need help on how to re-center it so it runs smoothly form the default animation. Unfortunatley i have to stop the production of this unit and work on another since i need to finish the units i want to make by aug 29 (when school starts) and i also need to read 4 books and two articles before then. SO if anyone wants to help and takover where i left off the zip attached contains all my fxm's and storyboards along with the completed flc's.

@polyphemus- if you converted yoda from SWGB, he'd have the ghost pixels anyway- thats what it looks like when he attacks in SWGB- all lightsaber-wielding characters converted from SWGB have that- even Chris' sith apprentice unit. It looks kinda cool, so I wouldn't bother to delete it (if it can be). I downloaded the yoda unit to get a better idea of animation, but there's no way ill be able to center it when it attacks. Sorry! :(

Speaking of converting units from SWGB, i read Chris' page on converting them, and i have SWGB, so are there any units left to be converted? If so, lemme know!

BTW, i finished modeling my airspeeder in openfx. Animating it (what little animation i have to do- pretty much only fidget+attack) is too f!@#$ing difficult. This next question will probably sound stupid, but . . . how do i upload a preview of my unit (and allow more skilled 3-D animators to download it)?

Lastly, i think ill start modeling an A-Wing, unless polyphemus already is.

In doing some research to make sure I get the A-Wing correct, I discovered a few things and failed to discover others.

This is where you (thre SW guru come in).

The Engines:
The engine glow is split between a red-fire(1/3) and a yellow "whitehot" fire(2/3). My compromise is going to mesh these in that ratio. Mostly yellow, with a hint of red ... which will end up being a blending of yellow and orange. Sound workable?

Weapons:
w1: I did not know the a-wing carried missles, but now I do. I do not know their firing position. I suspect it is a drop down pod on the bottom.
W2: I can not find an image of the a-wing fireing the lasers. So unless I learn otherwise I'm gonna go with the same yellowish lasers I remember the x-wing useing.

Sheilds:
Curse the sheilds. I had no idea the damn thing used these.
But: "Shields/Armor Forward/Rear Projecting Sirplex Shields (50 SBD)"
Sheilds play havoc on getting the palette right. Getting the palette to work on my BC303 was the hardest thing I have done yet. Has anyone seen these sheilds? Are there any images anywhere on what they look like? Were they there in theory, but not in the movies? I don't remember sheilds... but the combat sequences are all very fast paced and I haven't seen them in a long time.

Opinions oh sages of things Star Wars?

*as always I reserve the right to be an idiot and ignore this advice no matter how salient.
