3D is fine. My favorite game ever is System Shock 2, which is 3D. Making old games with pretty new graphics is lame. The only exception I have to that is if the old game simply doesn't play on new hardware or operating systems.
Did you see the siege tanks in the screenshots? That's just plain stupid looking. Pretty much all of the designs in those screenshots are identical to the original with extra little bitty details. It's like movies, for example, the old He-Man movie (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masters_of_the_Universe). Everything is the same, except it looks slightly different, with more details. That's what this StarCraft 2 game is. There has to be a word for it somewhere; taking something that exists already, changing the way it looks slightly, and then selling it to the people again. I'm sure marketing executives have a specific word for doing exactly that. It's done so much, because obviously, it works. And it works well!
