StarCraft 2 officially announced

Am I the only one who is 100% unimpressed and actually thinks the screenshots look stupid? It looks basically identical to StarCraft 1.

While I'm about the greatest starcraft fan on earth I was only 50% impressed. This looks too much like warcraft in space to me..

i think with all the new things for the protoss they will be overpowered. Zerg doesnt even get a new unit which is sad since zerg were my second favorite race They just get a new zergling ability to blow themselves up. Terran get a marine type unit which can use its jetpack to get over walls which for other units would need to use a ramp.

How do you get that 'they don't get new units'? They just haven't announced them yet. And did you see the gameplay video of the suicidal Zerglings? They destroyed a platoon of Protoss warriors and two of those tripod things (don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing). So be patient?

You judge all of this from one map setting? ('Space' I'm guessing). The gaming world is going 3D. I don't know why you hold on so desperately to your 2D universe. I dont think your problem is that its a 'photo-copy' of the original Starcraft, more like you hate anything that is 3D
3D is fine. My favorite game ever is System Shock 2, which is 3D. Making old games with pretty new graphics is lame. The only exception I have to that is if the old game simply doesn't play on new hardware or operating systems.

Did you see the siege tanks in the screenshots? That's just plain stupid looking. Pretty much all of the designs in those screenshots are identical to the original with extra little bitty details. It's like movies, for example, the old He-Man movie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masters_of_the_Universe). Everything is the same, except it looks slightly different, with more details. That's what this StarCraft 2 game is. There has to be a word for it somewhere; taking something that exists already, changing the way it looks slightly, and then selling it to the people again. I'm sure marketing executives have a specific word for doing exactly that. It's done so much, because obviously, it works. And it works well!

ok a sequal to a game is basically same thing better graphics and new features. if u want them to make a whole different game dont look at sequals.

although i must admit, nearly 10 years to make somthing new they could have added a lot more

What do you think they're reselling? Did you miss the part when they showed the new units and new abilities? Those you're itty bitty details or just the ones you are ignoring? I agree the graphics are a tad too bright for the Starcraft 'feeling', but they are detailed enough to look good while being able to have large battles (reference the zergling onslaught video). I don't know what you want, either back-to-basic 2D or full-blown-out-there 3D.

Well, in how far is this game going to be different from a modded Warcraft 3? So far I have only seen some effects. New units could be modded, new terrain too. Dunno, but I want something more then an upgarded Warcraft 3 in space :(.

So Mr. Phlehgmak, please, impart upon us Your wisdom in how the Starcraft2 should be done.

While this was rude, I really have to ask, what inclusions would you like to see in-game, that would warrant you being impessed?

Personally, I would be happy if they included "squads", which are all vogue, but that would cheapen the new (hey, there!) Protoss ability to warp units around a map. Also strategic map, with optional missions would be nice, though knowing Blizzard they will keep it linear and tightly sctripted, which is not necessarily bad.

So far then it seems, I will be buying this game for story and ability to select more units at the same time. It is not much, but I do enjoy Blizzard's storytelling (as long as it is not running other Blizzard storytelling into ground).

And StarCraft One was close to perfect. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I'm thrilled, and can't wait to see what new critters the zerg get.

I think it's time my compy got an upgrade :(

:D

It's exactly the same game with flashy new graphics! You like this? This "makes you salivate"? The graphics of the original were perfectly fine. I guess this is the future of gaming. Same old same old -- but with new graphics! Settlers 2 is doing the same thing. Same game with new 3D graphics. And the graphics in both games is in fact the same looking as the old graphics, but just in 3D and slightly more decorous.

Personally, I couldn't care less about the graphics. My favourite game is Nethack. What excites me about this is the prospect that Blizzard may finally upgrade the interface so that you can group-select a given type of unit from within a control group, etc.

If it's Starcraft I with a Warcraft 3 interface, it's definitely enough to make me salivate.

Hmm. I dont care that much (but what do you care about what I care about?). I never really liked StarCraft that much. Didn't hate it, but when I started playing it I was always defeated in the first 3 minutes-or half hour-in easy mode, since Id just come from Age of Empires-type games. So I never really liked it that much. Or maybe it was because it was in french (which I know), which made it easier to stop caring. But I never had that problem with Civ2, which was french at first. And there's my life story that no one could possibly care about. At least that part. Sigh.

My first impression of the screenshots was that it looked too "cartoonish" to me, too shiny, too much crome. Dare I say too "Anime-ish"?

After seeing the offical website animated zealot, I sort of thought it did look like warcraft in space (agreeing with other person saying it).

I just hope I won't have to buy a new computer to run the bloody thing :(

You know, that is exactly what people said when blizzard first propsed starcraft.
Personally I think it looks great and I cannot wait.

No doubt that the screenshots are early. They'll probably change a lot of things first. However, I rather hope that they keep the general outlines of the classic interface bar at the bottom, including the button designs.

Am I the only person that doesn't care about Starcraft and think it's just another game?

No, Im another one. Never really got into the first one, doubt will into this one.
