StarCraft 2 officially announced

I'm not overly impressed. It doesn't look that different from C&C3 and Warcraft3, I was expecting more. But just the continuation of the story line is good enough for me.

Am I the only person that doesn't care about Starcraft and think it's just another game?
It is. But it's just another game with a great storyline. :)

Good thing i don't care about graphics much - if i would i'd have a few things to object ...

While I'm about the greatest starcraft fan on earth I was only 50% impressed. This looks too much like warcraft in space to me..

Of course, its the same graphics type things. Thats like saying the Taj Mahal looks like St. Peter's in India.

About bloody time.

People shouldn't be so judgmental, we haven't even seen anything. Just a small demo of the most basic units and graphics (in the alpha stage, no less) and people already don't like it? What else could you expect from a sneak peak at SC2 besides that?

Look closer: it's already clear that there is going to be a detailed system of counters against different units. In Starcraft, you could just build 20 carriers or battlecruisers and nothing would stop you, but they already have different kinds of weapons systems and shield systems that match them, which will take strategy to another level. Units seem to have more abilities and functions, such as the zealot charging and marines flying. Combined with the advances in processor speed since SC1, I am sure strategy will be much better in this game. And the graphics look great to me. Of course siege tanks are going to look the same; they're supposed to be the same tanks from SC. Once you play SC2 for 10 minutes, SC1 will seem like a joke.

I havnt been this excited about a game since half-life 2, as for the naysayers, this game is in alpha, it could change a lot, just look at the star craft one beta, it was way different. Also, this is blizzard were talking about here, they have never ever ever ever made a bad game, ever period. I didnt like world of warcraft or warcraft three, but they still sold a ton which is something to say, blizzard has the best track record of any company period when it comes to games, and they always know what the people want, they're the model for how a company should be, I have full faith in them that star craft two will be flippin awesome even if it does take ten years almost.

*Cough* SCOURGE!

There is always a counter.

@Gr3y- Yeah, Warcraft's heroes are enough. I want a game focused on unit balance, not getting the ultimate on your level six hero. :p

I learned using Scouts intelligently utterly destroys carrier fleets. At least when fighting my friends. I just have the groups target the carriers and queer a list of future targets, select another group of scouts and do the same. Sure its micromanaging the battle, but micromanaging normally wins for me since my friends refused to do it.

Also Defliers worked too and hordes of Hydralisk, at least against Battlecruisers.

Templars do good job too when player isn't paying attention to their fleet.

My friends refuse to play Starcraft anymore :( They only learned how to play one or two races and even then they only played one stragey with those races. I learned how to counter their stragies with all races using different stragies with each race

It's exactly the same game with flashy new graphics! You like this? This "makes you salivate"? The graphics of the original were perfectly fine. I guess this is the future of gaming. Same old same old -- but with new graphics! Settlers 2 is doing the same thing. Same game with new 3D graphics. And the graphics in both games is in fact the same looking as the old graphics, but just in 3D and slightly more decorous.

Have you guys seen the game play demo footage? The graphics have indeed 3D sure, that's the logical approach, but it's not mostly the same old same old as you put, there's classic units, along side new units, there's new game play technologies that are put into play, such as some ground units being able to avoid obstacles such as cliffs, new interesting effect mechanics, and beautiful looking terrain (for the demo they used a space platform, in which background environment looks more realistic (planet, asteroids etc))

Well there's no "hero" units (like in Warcraft 3) per say, but there are apparently powerful "unique" if you will, units in which only one may be fielded in the battlefield at a time, they are not like heroes in Warcraft 3, which gain levels and can learn spells, but have set abilities like most other "spell" wielding unit for that race. I don't mind this at all, as they thankfully have not followed the hero approach from Warcraft 3.

I'm also sure "hero" units as they were in Starcraft, will return in Starcraft 2, available in single player campaigns and other games...

All in all, Starcraft 2 is looking good, I'm sure people would have been very angry and disappointed if the demo hardly resembled the original game.

the demo definatly looked awesome. just the new protoss units make the game worth buying. now add some zerg and terran units and youve got a whole new game!

I heard dis news bout a week or 2 ago, but I checked out starcraft2.com or youtube.com on vids, AWSOME GAME!, I KNEW STARCRAFT WOULDNT DIE!, WOOT!

For those are you that are complaining about Starcraft II graphics as 'warcraft in space' then look at this:
