StarNES Part I: Rise of Galactic Empires

My leaving for a week coincides exactly with this starting, which is very unfortunate. Here's the general plan... Scientific civ, research Basic Grav Control, then Basic Plasma Tools.

See you in a week, sry.

GALPEDIA DATABASE:
CULTURES:
EARLY FTL EMPIRES:
ALEANS:
Aronese Predominant:
Home planet: Aron.
Cultural specifics: Very pragmatic and realistic, underdevelopped art (not including highly-developped architecture and mental arts), state-based philosophy. Revenge and intrigue as an art form.
Society: A Ranking system (sometimes crudely mistaken for Castes), including the Table of Ranks (memorized from birth, a table that features all three hundred ranks, achievements and requirements needed to advance to them (in a Ranking system, it is possible to advance or down as determined by the Ranking Council and the Ranking Examination), privileges available to every Rank, clothes appropriate to every Rank and telepathic symbols of every Rank) determines much of the society. Advanced telepathic examination makes sure that "everybody is in his place". Theoretically, lower Ranks are supposed to be loyal to higher Ranks if assigned to them, although that does not always work in practice. Upon birth, not depending on the Ranks of the parents (it is a custom for marriages to be between equal ranks, while higher Ranks are allowed polygamic relations towards lower Ranks if not already married. However, that custom is not neccesarily followed), the Newborn are allowed to live under the protection of parents for ten years. After that, they are examinized and sent to their first Ranks. From there, they could advance up or fall down. If one falls out of the Ranking system alltogether by not meeting the requirements of the lowest (Third Slave) Rank, he is executted as being utterly useless for even the most simple tasks. The Alean Dominion is reigned by a council of members of the Highest Caste, although one of them is above the others due to having the title of the Great Emperor.
Religion: Currently none (Atheism), polytheism in the past.
Brief History: Emerging from intense National Empires Era strife and the five devastating Colored Wars between purple-skins and blue-skins, the Alean Dominion of Aron and Associated Colonies (ADAAC) has been one of the Early FTL Empires, achieving the FTL technology roughly in the same time as several other civilizations.

Background: Having evolved in a (comparatively) high-radiation world of Aron in the Elia Star System, the Aleans are perhaps the most famed for their ruthless pragmatism and universal telepathy. On the latter, much of their culture, arts and civilization is formed. The Aleans, for the most part, consist of two subspecies - the Blue-Skins and the Purple-Skins. The only real difference is in the color, and in culture - the Purple-Skins are less pragmatic and more superstitious. The first one to trully master and learn to control telepathy, a Blue-Skin ruler named Ereus, managed to build for himself a huge empire which united many tribes and nations of both races on the main continent roughly a thousand years ago. Seven hundred years ago, though, it collapsed and fell into anarchy. Racial strife ensued, during which there were Five Coloured Wars, brutal and devastating, leading to the eventual Purple-Skin defeat - if barely, as they won the Fourth Coloured War before being nuked into stone age during the Fifth one. Since then, the Blue-Skins managed to form a new empire, which unified most of the world, while the Purple-Skins were all contained within a contaminated desert, surrounded by a huge wall and into which Blue-Skins occasionaly launch raids to keep the army in shape. The creators of the Second Empire created the Ranking System, and used their own superior telepathic powers to weaken or strengthen the telepathic powers of lower or higher ranks, respectively. This started a period of relative stability, until twenty years ago, a violent coup took place, replacing the Second Empire with the Alean Dominion. This happened in roughly the same time as the sudden breakthrough in the field of the FTL drives...
Starting Location: Anywhere you want. But prefferibly not in a corner.

Should we send in orders for the first update?

When do you plan to update?

i'll join as a nice little organisation later. please remind me if i forget :)

Edit:

awww crap, now ive read the rules i want to play as a civilization as well.....i shall have decided by tomorrow morning, i dont suppose i can play as both? :D :goodjob:

Edit 2:

Help me decide please :) mercenary pirate group or mercenary pirate nation ? :D

i wouldn't because i wouldnt want them to, but now its harder to choose, help please :) i might choose a nation actually, then i can start immediately.....hmmmm

Well, it's really your decision. oo Organizations have it much tougher than civilizations, to tell the truth. However, they can execute things different from a civilization. For exampe, a civ cannot plunder ships on a trade route, but can set up a blockade or something. An organization, however, can continually plunder them for cash.

can i get my civ to pretend to be mercenaries to attack another civ like espionage stuff? that might be fun too.

Edit: I decided to go as a civ, will do stats tomorrow. Also add background and story tomorrow when Im awake and everyone else is snoozing. *hopes for snow*

Um... Can I join as a semi organization/semi nation? I'll explain...

Basically they own a star system and function just like most other civs, but barren, rocky, and poor, right up until they discover other civs and decide a life of plunder is for them... Ah, forget it. I'll just set up an organization soon as turn 3 rolls around...
