Starting a Wonder Prebuild?

One of the purposes of the Philosophy Gambit is building the Great Library. As it stands now, we have no prebuild. We have about 8 turns to go, and should we get it, we'll need a prebuild to get the Great Library a little quicker.

Now here's the dilema... We're pinched in and need the land, thus we need military...

Didn't know what we were going for. ;) (I always build the Great Library -- besides, we can cut back on research, and we'll need it if we want the income to upgrade warriors to swords)....

I believe the the great lighthouse is already government policy. The Great library too? Ouch.

AFAIK the AI are building very few wonders ATM. The later they start, the fewer will finish before lit is known.

Where will we get shields for units?

This really is going to be a 130K 5CC isn't it? Maths is not my strong point, but I think that such a goal would require a reasonably imaginative strategy. ;)

I think Lighthouse would cut it for now. We need the Golden Age, and I am not seeing another attempt from the same person to overturn that democratic decision for Term One. That Term One decision was the only cultural decision that term, so it should stand.

Besides, we could use the GA to break out.

I agree that the Lighthouse would be what we build. The question is when do we build it? The issue of when to build has not been polled yet.

MOTH has a good point Provo. You need to make a list of the possible timings and poll them. The Lighthouse has been decided upon, and though I wouldn't build it personally, discussion should switch to when, rather than if. The decision should certainly not be overturned by your successor. :)

Heard about culture war ?
Culture wars are much more effectively fought with cheaper improvements, not a Great wonder at acost of 400 shields for a culture of 2 is not good value in my books.

We still have various spots to settle. Lets pump out a few more cities first. I mean, we're still enqueeded by MOTH for one more city, and we have that great Iron-Wheat spot thats just begging to be taken. Lets wait some more before we build (even if Philo is due in 8). Just churn out a few more settlers.

...enqueeded...
Interesting word.

Seriously, with at least one war in the near future and being still in despotism, I would recommend putting off building the wonder which triggers our GA. We need an army and some workers, not a wonder.

I would prefer to not build any AA wonders at all. Leo's or Smiths in the middle ages is soon enough. We should instead look to capture or even raze the AA wonders, to slow down opponents who happen to build one.

SaaM,

I figured out what word you meant to write. I was just bemused by the word you did write.

There's only one AA wonder that I normally build, and it isn't the Great Lighthouse but rather the other GL.

Chieftess wants the GLib too. I think it promotes poor gameplay and actuall reduces your options through the MA. It is a crutch I would rather do without.

We should rather amplify tech trades and good diplomacy, not the cheap backseat solution of Great Library, which is a disenchanting wonder.

I would rather have good fun leveraging superior fleets (UU) on our skinny Pangea.

Also, the wonder debate for Term One is closed, and the Lighthouse is secure.
We are now looking into implementation.
