what is all of this spam people keep talking about with steam, I have all of the ads turned on but I hardly ever see any seems like the only time I see it is when steam first starts up when I turn my computer on. and that is only what is on sale for the weekend.

I was talking about getting tired and shutting down Civ then BOOM up pops steam with 4 new ads and if you don't click to see each one they will keep popping up everytime you quit until you see them but thanks to the help i got here I have disabled those i hope, I mean i hate watching TV and listening to the radio or going to certain websites or even opening up a magazine because of the constant bombardment from greedy advertisers so when my beloved civ, which i luv to play and get away from reality and its constant ads sends me ads i just lose it sometimes.

I like the ads, they keep me informed of sales and stuff. I like to see whats new.
Normally though I hate the vast majority of advertising.
And it really isn't a big deal, you click the X. But whatever, I understand.
Still shocked by how many people never check for an options menu though.

Steam is ripping off the consumer with shoddy service. Why should we wait for thier $%#@ servers. what a farce!! You defend a crap company like this one??people have valid complaints...but they fall on deaf ears.#$%$##

I'm sorry, but lynxxyarly albeit not a calmly put one. Steam's servers do get busy at times, and right now they are very busy delivering a large and free update (a new campaign) for Left 4 Dead 1 and 2.
Though I don't know why this is stopping anyone from connection, it works perfectly fine for me right now. Only slow thing is the L4D2 update.
And I assure you, my ears are not deaf, but I am not likely to help you if you just rage about everything, whether or not you are justified.

Prime example of anti-piracy getting in the way of the legit consumer. I might as well go d\l it of the internets and play it cracked, will be faster than Steam. Been trying to get my mini patch so I can play for the first time for the last hour.

How can you put steam in offline when you cant connect to steam in the first place?
Assuming you had your "save password" button check previously, pull the plug on your internet and then start steam. It should recognize you have no internet right away and start you in offline mode.
This does not work if ciV is in trying to DL patch mode though.
