For a minute there I thought Steph was using a DL while on vacation.


On a lighter note - it's Steampunk. And I believe the place it falls in the tech tree, at least in our scenario, is after Automata. So why would there need to be gun crews at all? Furthermore, why would one assume it is using steam, strictly defined?

Since publication of the details is restricted under the Official Secrets Act of 1889 I will just say that the motive force is provided by an engine encorporating the key technologies of the Maestrofoon, W. G. Armstrong, & Du Tremblay designs. Such a combination reduces engine size, eliminates the need for large boilers or capacious fuel reserves, deals with the exhaust profile issue, and provides auxilliary power for electrickal illumination and fire control Babbage engines. And, it must be pointed out, the previous correspondent has completely misunderstood the scale of the vehicle - which is more comparable to the Wells device under construction than to a rude farmer's tractor. Sufficient room for the small crew required.


Moderator Action: Any further pedantic diatribes by anyone, including moderators, that distract Wyrmshadow from creation of steampunk units, will result in sanctions, up to & including the forced watching of Doug McClure marathons.

I love it, though. I grew up with comic books; I don't care.

As far as the phantasmagorical goes, these are great - and also very plausible for an alternative timeline.

Consider: the British deployed trackless "steam trains" during the Boer War. Also, in the early days of auto making, electric, internal combustion, and steamers were all around.

So: imagine a world without a looming WW1 and some improvements to avoid excessive numbers of explosions in steam engines. IMHO there's no reason why "steampunk" AFVs couldn't have been very real world; indeed (thanks to Wyrmshadow ) I'm including them in the mod I'm perpetually working on.

All of these units combine an outstanding attention to realistic detail with a fine appreciation of the steampunk aesthetic.

I would be happy to edit the thread's title the read "Steampunk Tanks" if you think it would be appropriate.
