Steph mod: progress for icon maker and text writer

Today in your cinema...err forum! ;)

- Imperialism
- Navy tradition
- Exploding Shell
- Separation of Powers
- Electricity

Imperialism is "stolen" from a game cover, but I thought it fits well ....

I've added all the industrial techs in the game. Right now, it's just an empty shell : no icons for most of them, and no civilopedia text ether (except "to do").

But now I can make the links with buildings, units, etc.

As I have almost all the unit graphics I need, I hope to have this era ready (for generic units only, not civ specific) at the end of the week.

I have updated the tech trees in the 5 first posts of the thread. Now it shows also the abilities (mutual protection pacts, trade over ocean, etc).
To avoid a to fast growing of the civilizations, I have put back the communication trading to the invention of the Telegraph, at the "end" of the second area. Map trading comes with Navigation instead of simply map making.

There's another change that doesn't appear here.
The initial tech.
For industrious civ, it is tool making.
For scientific civ, it is tool alphabet.
For religious civ, it is religion.
For militaristic civ, it is tribal wars.
For expansionist civ, it is agriculture, domestication or fishing, depending on the civ (ex: Viking get fishing, but Mongol domestication).
For commercial civ, it is agriculture or fishing.

The civ have 2 or 3 traits, and the free tech varies more on a civ per civ bais : it doesn't always follow the trait.

From left to right, and back to front:
- Tribal Warrior, Warrior, Swordsman, Man at arm
- Spearman, Phalanx, Pikeman, Pikes
- Hunter, Archer, Crossbowman, Harquebusier, Musketman, Musketeer, Fusillier, Rifleman, Infantry (WWI), Trooper (WWII)
- Chariot, Cataphract, Knight, Cavalier, Cuirassier, Tank, Armor, Heavy armor, MBT
- Horseman, horse archer, Mounted musketeer, Dragoon, Cavalry, Hussar
- Marine (WWII), Machine gun, AT, Engineer, Paratrooper (WWII), Alpine trooper,
- Catapult, Trebuchet, Bombard, Cannon, Howizter, Artillery,
- Mortar
- Horse Artillery

looks nice, but why are there some greek(macedonian) units in the generic selection?

Because I don't have real generic graphics. So when I will do the civ specific units, in fact I will have only that!
Take the warrior for instance. Between the immortals, the roman "praetorian" (vanilla civIII), the pictish warrior, etc. there will be no real generic units.

Another thing : the civ will NOT be equivalent. So some units will be unavailable to some civ, even if the tech itself exist (I don't want to have real civ specific tech trees).

All the modern techs have been added with the editor.

I will soon add the associated buildings / units.

I still have lot of works for the mod, and help is always welcomed :
- I need to add all the civ specifics units (and there should be a lot more than in Vanilla Civ3, as a civ will have several UU).
- I need to find icones for all the techs. In the tech trees (see first page), all tech were the upper part of the square is yellow have a "blank" icon.
- I need to write civilopedia texts. You can submit yours if you want (Illustrious, no mor texts ? :( They were really good :goodjob: ).
- I need to add correctly the graphics for some new buildings and wonders.
- I need to add the center of governments (small wonder specific to a government, that will make it more different from the other government).
- I need to make nice pictures for the science advisor, and I don't know if I'm good enough to do it. So if someone thinks he can make them for me, I will be really glad to add him in the credits!

Have you seen my compiled tech icons thread? it has more than 200 different icons.

For you information, I currently have in the Civilopedia
- 147 units,
- 84 city improvement and wonders
- 227 techs
- 24 resources
- 6 governments (I need to have the civilopedia stuff for the new ones)

- renaissance tactics
- horse artillery
- assault troops

I hope to post some more tomorrow :)

More for the industrial age:

- Gunpowder
- Machines
- Industrialization
- Oil Exploitation
- National Army
- Socialism

After making those, I thought that the "Machines" icon might fit better for "Industrialization" (and vice versa), but that´s of course up to you to decide :)

Here is a small review of what I'm still missing
For ancient and medieval
- Agricultural revolution. Something with a mill could be nice.
- Medieval tactics
- Invention. I need something more medieval. Perhaps a sketch of a "thing" from Leonardo Da Vinci?
- Regimental organization. I was thinking of a rank of musketeers from Cossacks (a bit similar to assault troop)
- Mounted Infantry
- Cavalry tradition
- Urbanization

What I have, but I'm not completly happy with.
- Mapmaking : I'm using vanilla Civ3 icon, but something that has a more ancient look would be nicer.
- Medicine for Renaissance : perhaps something with a stethoscope would be more self explantory?
- Mobile artillery: as it give horse artillery, it would be better if we could see a horse.
- Nationalism : original icon is a bit ugly
- railroad : the original icon shows only the wheels. I would like to see a whole locomotive.

This is for the 1st and 2nd era, which are almost finished. Comments for the other eras will come later.
