Update 16 - 700 BCE
The Afridi have stopped their drive to the west, apparently satisfied by their winnings in Iraq and Persia and pacified by the Israelite gift of 2 economy points. Instead, they turned to the northeast and to the east towards the kingdoms of Uzbekistan and the small Durrani stronghold of Kabul.
They have engaged the Uzbek armies on the borderlands, but the bulk of the Afridi invasion force had not yet reached the new northeastern front. This of course means that only some areas around the border have been taken by the Pashtun Empire, while the rest of Uzbekistan is preparing its people and forces for a long war, having heard rumors of this warlike tribe of Pashtuns that was also blamed by the Durrani Kingdom of Kabul for the collapse of central authority and cohesion of the Afghani state.
Meanwhile, the Durrani Kingdom of Kabul was easily surrounded by the Afridi Pashtuns. Both peoples, once members of the same Afghan Confederacy, engaged in bloody battle for the ancient Afghani capital. The Durrani King refused to surrender to the Dallarni Khan leader of the Pashtun Empire and mobilized the people and soldiers of Kabul to do battle with the villains of the west. Though the Durrani fought bravely and fiercely, ultimately it was the Afridi Pashtuns that triumphed. During the brutal siege by Afridi Catapults, many of the citys once-glorious buildings, and the great marketplace, had been reduced to rubble. The aftermath of the siege was even more terrifying, as the Pashtun Army, which no longer included only the Afridi and allied Pashtuns but also Persians, Babylonians, and even a few Azeris, took revenge on the defiant population. Rape and pillage was the law of the land in Kabul. The citys devastated population was utterly devastated: no woman was spared from the angry lust of the occupants; no man escaped the swords and arrows; no child experienced mercy and protection from enslavement. Indeed, all the survivors were sold into slavery, immediately sent on caravans to the newly-constructed city of Pashtunia, located in western Persia, to be forever servants to the Afridi generals and warlords and the Persian and Babylonian collaborators.

Rome completed its payment of reparations to Austria. The Roman population was angered that their government succumbed to Austrian demands so easily, and riots have occurred in the capital. The Roman nobility the patricians, called this because their leader in this crisis is Patricius has refused even to participate in and fund the effort to bring Zagreb back into Roman control in an odd way of protesting the Emperors decision to pay fully Austrias reparation demand.
Austrian people, meanwhile, are euphoric, and the nobles have showered the Habsburg Emperor with lavish gifts. Never in their rule have the Babenbergs received this much support and enthusiasm. Austria is on the fast track toward recovery.
ROME: -1 Confidence
AUSTRIA: +1 Confidence; +1 Economy level
The Roman Army is equally dissatisfied with their Emperor. Many generals, in defiance, have pledged allegiance to the various patricians protesting the reparation payment to Austria, and have withdrawn from the Zagreb Republic.
Very few battles have been fought between the Slovak-Zagreb armies and the Roman armies. In some cases, dissenting generals who had not withdrawn from the Zagreb territories simply met with the Zagreb soldiers and learned about the ways of the Zagreb Republic, where the decisions are made by an assembly, rather than one leader.
This republican ideology is thus spreading beyond Zagreb, gaining new adherents in Slovakia and in the Roman provinces as well.
NO SIGNIFICANT CASUALTIES ON EITHER SIDE
Portuguese concerns and angers were diminished and ended by the withdrawal of Israelite soldiers from Sardinia and the Balearics and the payment of the reparations.
Judaic missionary work spreads to Malagasy. Dubrovnik has been almost entirely converted, but recently even the converts are illustrating nostalgia for the days when Dubrovnik was the seat of independent Dalmatia feelings that have been revived no doubt by the brave defiance of the Northern Dalmatians of the Zagreb Republic against the Romans.
More synagogues have been built across Austria. Austrian Jews have even founded a new city Judenberg, in far-western Austria which is already beginning to become a successful city with many nearby farmers coming into the new city to engage in the new centralized trade and some have settled in the new city. These western farmers, however, have largely not converted, as opposed to the eastern Austrians who have entered the synagogues with excitement. Not only peasants, but also nobles have converted, again, mainly in the east, in and around Vienna. Its looking more and more like Austria will be the first European Jewish kingdom, although the Habsburgs have still not accepted the Judaic faith.
The anti-Nihonese coalition, despite very, very promising beginnings, has suffered numerous setbacks on all fronts.
In Korea, the northeastern beachhead, as well as the captured western frontier provinces, have been retaken by Nihonese forces who mounted extremely violent, indeed vengeful, counter-attacks. Nihon managed to gain enough collaborators among the Koreans, boosting their army numbers significantly. As the Nihonese rampaged back into the formerly-liberated territories in western and northeastern Korea, they immediately unleashed reigns of terror to root out and kill anyone who cooperated with the Malaysian-led armies basically much of the population of those areas have been slaughtered. The ferocity and speed of the Nihonese counter-attack also allowed them to penetrate across the border and into the Chinese-Choson Empire. Beijing, the former capital of the Choson kingdom of the same name, is now just south of the new front line very endangered.
In Hokkaido, the Nihonese population rose up and murdered the occupying armies, or forced them to withdraw back to Sakhalin, which now remains the sole anti-Nihonese stronghold in such close proximity to the Nihonese Islands.
Nihonese fleets engaged the anti-Nihonese fleets as well, breaking several points in the blockades of Nihonese territories. Their most significant breakthrough in the high seas, though, is definitely penetration into the coasts of Okinawa. The blockade being torn open to allow for a direct route between Nihon and Okinawa, the Okinawans have risen in revolt against the occupation, using weapons that they apparently have hidden away for years after the invasion. The entire island is again under Nihonese control, though there are anti-Nihonese fleets still nearby, which may bring with them more troops to re-occupy the island.
In Manila, in the Philippines, the local population has revolted and declared the Philippine Republic. Soon after the Manila declaration, the peasants in the rest of the countryside, some being native Filipino and others being descended form Nihonese settlers, immediately declared allegiance to the government in Manila. The new Senate declared that if the Vietnamese vacate all of the Philippine Islands and cede the islands to them, the Republic will not join Nihons side and will remain neutral in the war.
Meanwhile, in the south, the armies of the Greater Democratic Commonwealth (GDC) have invaded Western Papua the small area that Malaysia occupied from Nihon with the element of surprise being a detriment to the effectiveness of Malaysias forces defending Western Papua. It seems as if the GDC invasion is not related at all to the conflict with Nihon, as noone in the GDC government or military has shown any pro-Nihonese emotion. But it is nevertheless a stab in the back. In fact, even within the Senate of the GDC, there is outrage at this maneuver by the Consul and his military forces. Many Senators have demanded that the army withdraw from Western Papua, as they never approved of military action against the Malaysians in regards to the area. This is rattling down even to the common citizens of the GDC. The people of [Eastern] Papua are actively in favor of the surprise invasion, seeing it as reunion of their neighbors and brothers. The Maori are a bit more indifferent to what happens, though that population is somewhat swayed towards support of the military action. In Eastern Australia, however, the population is split. About half of them, particularly in the north, are in favor of the invasion. The rest, in the south including Brisbane and Sydney demonstrate against the invasion.
The island of Java has also been invaded by the GDC, though with somewhat less success. The armies of Malaysia were still surprised, news of the attack in Western Papua not having had reached them yet, but once faced with the GDC obstacle, they defended effectively. Only some part of eastern Java has been occupied.

Determined troops on both sides clashed in southern Aztecland. The Maya invaders suffered some setbacks in certain areas, particularly the coasts, but inland they managed to push even further into the Aztec territory. In the re-captured territories, the Aztecs have begun to segregate Polytheists and Quetzalists, and a trickle of Quetzalist settlers from the north has begun, much to the continued outrage of the Polytheists. Some of the Polytheists, upon seeing the new Quetzalist settlers, move in, have lashed out against the newcomers, and mutual massacres have occurred. As a result of the governments policies, many of the southern Aztec Polytheists have condemned the Emperor and the rest of the Quetzalists to be no longer true Aztecs. This religious schism can easily weaken the Aztec Empire to the Maya invasion, as it has already been seen that the Polytheists, in desperation, have collaborated with the Maya.
AZTEC EMPIRE: -400 Swordsmen, -100 Horsemen, -100 Spearmen, -150 Archers; -1 Culture, -1 Confidence
Distracted by the Maya threat and the pacification of the Polytheists in the south, the Aztec Empire continued to be oblivious to the troubles in the north.
In the northwest, the Miwoks have declared the independence of the Miwok Kingdom.
East of the Miwoks are the new Apache League a league of locals who are very militaristic as a society. Further east, along the border with the Sioux, are the Empire of Texas, who have also broken away and gained alliance with and allegiance of many of the southern Sioux tribal communities.
All 3 of these new kingdoms are, by religion, Quetzalist. They, however, disagree strongly with the governments policies of forced-conversion, and apparently are seeking to re-discover their own pre-Quetzalist roots as well.
Strangely, though they have not addressed the grievances of the northern tribes of their own Empire, the Aztecs have stirred trouble in the north with countries north of them. Aztec Triremes were seen attacking the port of Roanoke, New Illinois. The New Illini fleet, never having been even moderately large, was easily destroyed. Right after completing their destructive missions, the attacking ships sailed away into the night, presumably to commence the journey back home.
NEW ILLINOIS: -8 Triremes
Meanwhile, the New Illini have started a war yet again with the Iroquois. Along the border, much Iroquois land has been taken, and, as is the usual Illini custom, the local population has been totally slaughtered by the New Illini High Saints. However, the Iroquois are sure to stage counter-attacks to liberate what remains of their territory. It seems that the Illini and Iroquois will never coexist in peace as long as they share a common frontier.

The armies of Lesotho and Malagasy have crossed en masse into Zambia. This was by no means a secret surprise invasion, as Zambia was notified of declaration of war. The close proximity of the victims capital to the border with Lesotho did not serve it at all. The army was unable to concentrate its defense on just the capital having to defend on more than just one front and thus the capital fell quickly, with the Zambian leaders unable to even flee. The war is not long and is over as the two predators partitioned Zambia and defeated its army. To be sure, though, the eager Zambian people are another matter: they do not bow down to their new rulers. All over both occupied parts of Zambia, guerilla bands attack the foreign soldiers. There are no guerillas in Lusaka, as the Zambians do not want the city to be more damaged than it already had been during the first days of the war. But in that city, the Zambians are just as angry.

MALAGASY: -50 UU, -100 Spearmen, -150 Horsemen, -150 Swordsmen
During the invasion, the Malagasy have worked on gaining more support among the peasantry, with financial reforms forgiving all farmers debts being put into place. This does not sit as well with some of the upper classes, though.
MALAGASY: +1 Confidence
Bulgar armies have swarmed into Silesia, Slovakia, and Dacia. Neither nations troops held out successfully much of Slovakias army is still in Zagreb. Eastern Silesia, Galicia (eastern Slovakia), and all of Dacia have been taken over by the Bulgars. The Slovakian government has fled to Prague in the western province of Bohemia, since Bratislava is in danger of impending Bulgar attack.
In the region of Khazaria, which encompasses what used to be northeastern Crimea and southeastern Kiev, the Bulgars adopt the Judaic faith because of the immense number of refugees that keeps flowing into the Bulgar-occupied land from Greater Armenia, where the Zoroastrian-controlled government has imposed increasing restriction on the Jewish population, including an official ban on further missionary work by the Kohanes. The Greater Armenian Emperor has also decreed the border with Israel to be closed to any immigrants from Israel, implying clearly that he wants the Jews to move out of the country to Israel as well.
This Jewish group of Bulgar warlords has established its center of power in Sartel. Local Kievans have refused vehemently conversion to Judaism, considering it a betrayal of their homeland and its culture. Local Crimeans have also refused conversion, but the Crimeans are much angrier than the Kievans, and there have been instances in Crimean-populated parts of Khazaria of attacks on both Georgian Jews and Bulgar Jews.
