STR-01: The Scorched Lands

Don't bother. Soccer isn't that popular in USA. That way it is only fair that your performance is worse that that of those, that love celebrate soccer :D Look even at Brazil. They performed so bad for such a great team. Maybe it's really the heat.

I'm very curious though how Germany will perform today. Hopefully we do our 4 goals this time without to much trouble for our own keeper ;)

But it also represents a pattern in a national team underachieving. Look at our basketball team. This is a sport The USA is passionate about but our athletes can not find the time and effort to form a real team and we now consistently lostwo more international sports. The same has been true in hockey and baseball.

I never recongnized such a thing as I am not a huge fan of national or international team sports. But maybe you're right, that there's some sort of psycho-national correlation ;)

I for myself am looking forward to watching those best of the current soccer games.

Now that two tomorrow mornings have passed again: How do you define "tomorrow morning", Strauss? :hammer:

;)

maybe u guys should skip him, i'm anxious to hear what happens next.

I believe he's lost in soccer :band:. Ok ...

I will take the save tomorrow (Friday) evening and play, if Strauss doesn't complain about it until then. He's long over his 24/48.

:mischief:

Seriously, I was really expecting this week to be a breeze after last week, but it's been quite disappointing so far. I could have played it through quickly, but I wanted to put some decent time into it, especially needing to catch up with turn reports.
With the weekend approaching though, I'm optimistic about my free time;)

I'll try to catch it when I get home tomorrow morning (yes, morning!). However, if I somehow can't make it again, don't feel too guilty about playing the save Pvblivs:p

"Step aside, Strauss!" yelled Pvblivs IV. He was enraged by the current Khan who had not achieved, not even begun any notable work worthy for a great ruler of Mongolia. None of his guards protected Strauss Khan. None stepped into the way of Pvblivs. No one held him back.

Khan fell. The spear that stuck in his body inflicted a burning in his stomack that felt like fire. That was the work, Pvblivs Khan achieved during his own reign. Well - a single Russian unit did he kill, a single mine guarded by these swordmen could be pillaged under his rule. He was it who introduced the great Drama into the kingdom. He set a plan to soon upgrade Mongol Keshiks to more armored variant scientists would call Knights. And he ordered a massive troop movement into the north. Under his reign, nothing was achieved. But when he died, the Khan felt that something could be done against the enemy of many Mongolian generations before: The Russians. "So be it! Let the siege of Petersburg begin." were his last words.

It should be mentioned that when he died a grave atmosphere dominated the tent, the camp, the whole Empire. For only years before they met a knew fate. The Indian empire. Rumors have been spread that they are by far the most powerful empire ever met by a Mongol.

Hail me, lord of horses. For I am Gandhi, and though shalt perish through my superiority.

I do have one question before I play. Pvblivs, some time ago you suggested not researching Guilds to keep Keshiks as long as possible for pillaging purposes, but now you started researching it. I thought it was a good idea to keep Keshiks instead of Knights. Did we drop this plan?

Well you're right. I actually forgot that. Nevertheless I considered two things:

a) we've got a long way to Russia so it lasts a looooong time to get there with maces. And Keshiks do not harm anyone except for pillaging.

b) Maces are weaker than Knights (unpromoted).

c) We should get Russia under control rather quickly now. That means we need military that does impress them.

I know that I supported this no-Knights thing. But now that it is apparent, I think it's not workable. What do you think?

I agree that going knights is OK at this point. I would just not promote many current Keshiks (only aboive exp 10), use those as a limited pilaging force later.

The commander watched from a distance as the last of the horsemen fell before the Shangian bows. It reminded him of 6 years earlier, when he was still a young soldier. They were overconfident after burning St. Petersburg, the city which bore the name of the Russian czar. They were closing in on Yaroslavl' when they saw Russian bowmen evacuating the city, exposing themselves in the open field. The Keshik brigade quickly broke away from the main attack force and followed the bowmen south, with another Keshik brigade approaching from the west. Surrounded and outnumbered, the Russians decided that their only hope was to dig in and defend to the last man.

The Keshiks from the west attacked first and expected a rollover, but because of a lack of coordination the Russians held their ground firmly and the mighty Keshiks were annihilated, only a few surviving the slaughter. The second attack, from the north, had a hard time as well, even though the Russians had been exhausted by the first attack and barely stood ground. In the end however, it were the Russians who came out victorious and had slaughtered thousands of Keshiks. Only one last brigade was left, moving towards Shangian lands.

And now, 6 years later, he was the last remaining Keshik. The mighty Keshiks, who had crushed Egypt and Mali, brought Russia to beg on its knees for peace, and established Mongolia's dominance on the continent, were no more.

The Great Khan had destroyed St. Petersburg and the Shangian stronghold, started the siege of Yaroslavl', cleared Mongolian waters of barbarian galleys, established contact with Persia and developed a new type of horseman, with iron armor, and more powerful, albeit slower than the ancient Keshik.

But he would always be remembered as the Khan who had caused the downfall of Mongolia's most respected and most powerful class.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, that's one less problem to worry about I guess:rolleyes:
In my defence, every time my Keshik lost I had good to really good odds... Maybe CIV is mad at me for ignoring it for like 3 weeks;)

Positive news is the razing of St. Petersburg and Shangian. Yaroslavl' is under siege, although we will need to wait for Macemen to come up to beat the Longbowmen there (both of them have City Garrison II and the city is located on a hill). There is also a Maceman at Aryan, but he will need some support to take the city (also on a hill). Guilds has been researched, and the first Knights are being built in Mongolia.

Contact with the Persians has been established. As expected, they are also more powerful than us, but less powerful and advanced than India.

It's going to be very hard to achieve our conquest goal, but it can still be won. We are getting closer to India and Persia in terms of power, although we need to cross the sea to invade them, which will complicate things. Also, Russia is proving to be quite a tough opponent, although it is only a matter of wearing them down. This will take time however.

The Russian Front

Mongolia

With the chaos of the past few weeks, with skips and swaps all over the place, it's time to bring some order back to the playing sequence.

Roster:
1) Strauss --> just played
2) Ralph_Jackson --> UP!
3) Pvblivs --> on deck
4) blastoidstalker
5) Kanga_DU

Unfortunate about the Keshiks, Strauss. Sounds like you need to make offerings to the RNG God. Drawing out war with Russia might not be so bad if it allows us a chance to trade and catch up to the civs we are yet to declare against...

Hear hear! Strauss has finally made his moves. I think we should concentrate on growing now and researching what Cyrus doesn't have. We need techs.

And we need to found many cities now. Our economy is still a mess. We need to fix that!

Thansk for the Roster, take this as a got it and will aim to play on Wednesday evening (have football to watch tonight)

Ralph
