STR-01: The Scorched Lands

1895

Then it happened...

Civ4ScreenShot00092.JPG

Gandhi diales us up and asks us to trade with him. I send him away empty handed though the deal would have been good for us. Why? Well, we don't want this to influence Caesars attitude towards us as he really likes us, but is annoyed with Gandhi...
After all, this wasn't a real desaster. But I promise, there will be one soon!

1897

I've skipped a year here cause what happened in this year simply let me forget what happened the year before. I was so struck, I can tell ya! Read on...

Civ4ScreenShot00111.JPG

Yes, this is no desaster as well, at least not for us. We can build the Manhatten Project now and we will...

Civ4ScreenShot00131.JPG

Karakorum is doing it for us and needs 18 turns. Thats ok as it turns out because we have to research Rocketry. So I decide to go for Artillery. Note that we could have Artillery from Caesar for Fission as well but I decided not to do it because we want not to sell it to Gandhi. Just cautious. What do you think?
Artillery is in in 6 turns.

Guess what happened now? Read on...

Spoiler :

:rotfl:
No, this isn't the desaster, though you might expect it. But it turns out to be one. Not a major one, but big enough that I had to stress it:

Civ4ScreenShot00141.JPG

Well we're the second greatest. Guess what comes a year later ...

Civ4ScreenShot00171.JPG

 Yes, this is the desaster. We actually have an opportunity to win a diplomatic victory (ok, maybe the votes are not enough yet), but we mustn't! I looked this up in our variant rules! (yes I looked into them for the first time ;))

Ok, but we can use this as an instrument that nothing can be done that we don't want to be done. All say "Thank you, Gandhi"! :)

1898

Cyrus comes forth to ask:

Civ4ScreenShot00161.JPG

I thought a long while about it ... where the heck does Cyrus have so much money from? We remain at war with him...

End of tale

Ok, that pretty much was it. Just two things left...

Please, don't forget to decide what to do with this guy:

Civ4ScreenShot00151.JPG

And note how much our time has run up so far:

Civ4ScreenShot0018.JPG

Having told you the whole story now, I can finally go to bed.

Wait ... not before I left you the save:

Kanga_DU, you're up in Mongolia! :D

Hang on! I'm up! Not that wannabe pretender fly by night fair weather khan Blastoid.

:gripe:

May I remind you:

The New And Much Improved Roster:
1) Strauss --> on auto-skip until July 28th Buit keeping us in the spirit of the SG
2) Ralph_Jackson --> Nearly wimped out of going the Nuclear path
3) Pvblivs --> UP!
4) Kanga_DU --> on deck

5) princecharles
6) blastoidstalker. May get to press the big red button!!

You almost won the game? That's terrible :p

Seriously, you better hurry up and destroy everyone before they get the chance to elect you world leader

Uppps!!! I corrected this. After all, what do I know about rosters? Strauss, where art though? Tell us how this roster ... rooster ... toaster thingy works :)

Have fun with it, Kanga

T0: Check Scientist's lightbulb - Flight... :( Have to wait and see if another tech opens up. Flight might be worth it in the end though. I don't think an academy or super specialist will match up beaker for beaker.
T1: Get some heading south to harrass Cyrus. I don't want him dead just yet...
T3: First vote - I proprose single currency and vote yes.
T4: Artillery in!

Rocketry in 8. Single currency suceeds. Lightbulb tech still Flight. Will hold sci back then.
T7: This sucks. JC wants us to cancel deals with Gandhi. I say no and take the hit (only -1), we go from Friendly to Pleased. Vote time: free religion this time. JC has troops enroute south to Cyrus.
T10: JC starts a golden age. Rocketry will come in this turn. Manhattan in 4.

JC has troops south now... might be pragmatic to trade Fission for the two techs offers, pocket change and getting JC to bargain peace with Cyrus. We are not quite ready to go to war with Gandhi yet, if JC wipes Cyrus out.

The New And Much Improved Roster:
1) Strauss --> on auto-skip until July 28th But keeping us in the spirit of the SG
2) Ralph_Jackson --> Nearly wimped out of going the Nuclear path
3) Pvblivs --> Brought us into position for a diplomatic victory
4) Kanga_DU --> Didn't know how to use the Great Scientist
5) princecharles --> is UP! to build lots of lots of nuclear bombs and prevent JC from destroying Cyrus
6) blastoidstalker. --> May get to press the big red button!!

I don't know - shall we trade Fission? I wouldn't... It's too dangerous. We don't want to lead a nuclear war we only want to strike nuclearly ourselfs :D

Khan Blastoid will be out in the wilderness from saturday till tuesday which is very sad as he may miss the chance to press the red button.

Not very sad for me then;). Khan Strauss has returned!

Pvblivs, you had me thinking Gandhi already launched his Space Ship with your constant 'desaster' (which, by the way, is spelled disaster).

Oh you think he meant disaster? Here I was thinking desalter and some sort of salinity problems. Phew. :mischief:

Kanga_DU said:

It was some kind of both. In Germany we say "Das Salz in der Suppe" (word by word: Salt in the soup, vaguely translated: the very special little ingredient that makes the whole thing interesting).

Well and thus somehow all is related. Is it? I don't know. Ok it does not make any sense what I wrote :mischief:

Maybe I just misspelled it. I should have written the German word: Disaster :rotfl:

Edit: The funny thing is: I thought abut the spelling and was so sure I did it right and it HAD to be different than in German. Well, sometimes you know when it is summer and the brain is slowly dying because of the heat...

Btw.: Behold! For great Strauss Khan is back :woohoo:

Have (no) fear :D

I read somewhere that princecharles is OOP for the moment. Blastoid won't be able to play until Tuesday, so that makes me up! I don't know if I'll be able to play today, as I seem to have an extreme hangover, and being awake for over 48 hours doesn't help much either. I could feel much better once the evening arrives, but don't count on it too much;).

What a difference 2 hours of sleep makes:lol:.

IT (1910): Gandhi doesn’t have Fission yet, so no Ecology either. We still have time…..
I eventually decided to make the trade with Julius. He had some troops near the Persian strongholds and if he finishes Cyrus off we will have to declare war on Gandhi or Julius before we are ready.

1911:
Finish Rocketry, start on Corporation to go for Assembly Line.

1914: Finish Corporation, start on Assembly Line, due in 6. Manhattan Project finishes, start on nukes in Karakorum and Old Sarai.

1915: Start building nukes in any city which can build it in under 30 turns.

----------------------------------

We are currently 2 turns away from our first 2 nukes. I forgot to check it the last turn, but I don't think Gandhi has Fission yet.

I also sent some of our Grenadiers and Cannons in India home, so they can be upgraded. They will be back in time for the war. Assembly Line is due in 1 turn, and I've already set research back to 40% to upgrading our units.

On a different note, Delhi now has a Legendary Culture. It won't be able to enjoy it for long!

EDIT: We have also generated another Great Scientist. I suggest using this one up for Flight. I don't know if two GS's accumulate beakers for 1 tech: if not, the other GS might now have a different tech to speed up. If they do accumulate we'll get Flight 6 turns faster. We can't build a great airforce to fight Gandhi, but remember, we still have to fight Julius as well (not to mention Cyrus;))

And the save:

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads12/STR_01_AD-1920.Civ4SavedGame

The New And Much Improved Roster:

1) Strauss --> has started building the Grand Arsenal of Nuclear Weapons and prevented Julius from destroying Cyrus.
2) Ralph_Jackson --> UP! to further the Nuclear Plan
3) Pvblivs --> Brought us into position for a diplomatic victory:lol:
4) Kanga_DU --> Didn't know how to use the Great Scientist (neither did I)
5) princecharles --> has decided to flee before the world gets turned into a wasteland
6) blastoidstalker. --> ditto

Strauss said:
4) Kanga_DU --> Didn't know how to use the Great Scientist (neither did I)

I do too! He was lightbulbing Flight and I kept hoping that the tech might change to something more immediately useful. :crazyeye: However Strauss, both scientists can be used on flight.

OK Got it, will play & post by Tuesday evening.

Please all read this on how to lead a nuke war:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=179627

The main things are: We need to know where to strike. This is most important. So either we've got a carrier with fighters or spies. When they've shelters or SDIs we're actually already dead.

We have troops in Gandhi's lands keeping an eye on him. As for shelters, could we see those in the cities (like you can see all the other buildings)? Could you look for them Ralph?
