STR-08: Love To Hate

Its ok to ask for a skip 50db.

I've played but I'm not happy with my turns

BW finished we have a source southeast of Tenoch in a pretty marginal location, not reading the settings properly I put our 2nd city in a spot which gained the copper in the first ring to help us against barbs, then when they never appeared I checked the settings and saw barbs we're off . I also wanted a good defense vs Shaka but I have a feeling that he's on the other side of the hub. Impi's will be fastest unit on the map with mobility and all the hills and forests in the centre of the map.

If I'd read the settings better I might have placed city 2 in a better spot, sorry if that was :weed:

Techs got BW wheel and Agri. Put sailing in as a placeholder.

Found Mansa Musa, then Hatsepshut. so that's everyone.

I have a bit of a look around. Not sure about the research path,so I swap from sailing to Pottery. The million dollar question remians though, where is Shaka?

Looks more like Hatty actually.

Yep, false alarm.

Pottery in and Writing selected.

Third city location was a hard one again. Choice really between floodplains with no resources and cow/wheat. The resources win out.

Aha, looks like it. How the hell did we find him first?

Oops.

The archer dies but the warrior kills me.

I weeded a bit and let capital grow unhappy. A 2 pop whip of a granary might help with that after the axe builds. Barracks built here and on the way in second city. One axe and spear already out.

Its a hell of a journey for axes to Shaka. It would even longer by boat. I'm not quite sure how we can do it

Research wise Writing is about to finish. I would be tempted by Code of Laws next or head for Construction. Not sure. We could probably afford another setter as well.

Yea, heres a suggestion......reroll a new start. Im all for playing out an SG even when odds are slime, but....its like 60 tiles to shaka. Well even doing the math......Jaquars + woodsman2 - hills - tundra = 35 tiles and when the jaguars finally get there, they can sit in the woods without attacking......woopeee. Think about it....someone sends out an axe to shaka and 4 turnsets later.....they get there...lol. Ozbenno sent out an axe allready........itll be his turn again before the dude gets there.....thats no fun.

With that said, Ill do what the group wants. Thats my vote...reroll this puppy.

I have the same concern. I expected to see Shaka a lot closer considering he was our first contact.
The maps standard size with only 6 opponents, but being a hub the land is alot more spread out than a Pangaea.
Perhaps we could just witch to having to declare war in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction.

I really hate re-rolling a game, but it's true that this situation is not much fun, and the distances are much larger than I anticipated. So I'll be rerolling for a new start tomorrow. I don't like choosing for Pangaea though, it's a pretty boring mapscript. I don't know all the mapscripts, so if anyone can suggest one that could be fun and playable I'd love to hear it.

We would want a continuous land map.... so Great plains, Highlands or one of the new "tree or deer" scripts? I don't like much of any of them.... Maybe a checked by a extra sg person Fractal map ?

If we want a continuous land mass, I would prefer the Donut mapscript, although we would need to change the variant to the '(counter)clockwise' variant to prevent mishaps like we experienced here. Otherwise, I do like the Medium and Small or Big and Small mapscripts as well.

I like the Maze idea a lot. Unless someone has any serious objections about its playability, I'll roll a Maze start tonight.

This thread seems to be dying. I rolled a Donut map and heres the start. The scout hasnt moved yet. Im thinking moving him W, then NW......settling in place seems right and researching fishing.....if no objections....Ill play in an hour or two...Ill watch this thread before playing as I dont wanna step on anyones toes....I just dont want this thread to die.
