Strange Brew PBEM

SB 386 played and sent to predesad.

Egypt has no desire for war but it looks like the conflict has already spread with the Chinese at war with the Americans also.
Egyptian forces will remain neutral in the conflict for the time being unless attacked.

I will have to wait until i get C3C installed and look at the save before i can respond to the war situation, but I absolutely refuse to even consider any peace terms from germany while China is also at war with me.

There has to be a bug in the game. When I got the game from China they were not at war with America. I didn't notice if China became at war with America when I attacked America or not.

No, I don't think I had a MPP with China. I was thinking that might have been the case because when I moved past some of the American units they attacked me. But I don't think I had a MPP with China so that's not the reason. Not the first bug in these PBEM games.

is it possible you were mistaken, Greybeard & China was not at war with me? I will have to find out if China wishes to be at war or not and if they do not I will simply propose peace & refrain from any military action this turn, when I finally get up and running completely, that is.

could someone tell me where to find the 1.20 patch, i was d/l some things this evening & thought i would go ahead & get the patches for civ & conquests, but i can't find 1.20 anywhere.

I can't seem to find the 1.20 patch. It's no longer on the official Civ3 website and I can't find it on any of the fan sites. I sure don't want to quit this game.

At www.civ3.com it says that earlier saves can be loaded into Civ.Conquests 1.22. If we can't find the 1.20 patch maybe we can try loading the save into 1.22.

earlier patches can be loaded into 1.22, but 1.20 & 1.22 are not compatible or something & you cannot load a 1.20 to a 1.22

Have you had any luck in finding the C3C 1.20 patch yet?
I tried loading one of our old saves from the game into C3C 1.22 and played through the turn. Everything seemed to work ok.
I checked through my records and there was another game I was in where we changed from C3C 1.20 to C3C 1.22 just by loading the save. It was Loulongs Age Of Wonders scenario. We played at least 30 turns after the change with no problems before the game was abandoned for some reason.

I found the 1.20 patch and linked the site to Predesad. He sent me an e-mail a little while ago telling me he had to go out and buy the game because his disk didn't work, he was going to install and patch, and hopefully be back up tonight. I thought about upgrading to 1.22 but have had bad experience with that so I don't want to.

sent to China

Oh great and awesome leader of the Germans, here is the message I have received from you:

Predesad of the wretched Americans,

I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that Civaddict seems to have fixed his computer because he sent me the save. The bad news is you are being punished for your many crimes against the German people. The Germans have grown tired of your many wars against our people and prevent us from reaching our goal of launching a spaceship to Alpha Centauri. While the Germans realize that you also want to launch your spaceship, they feel that is no reason to stop they from realizing their dream. To that end you have received the first of many damaging blows to your people that will continue unless you formally submit to our demands.

1. You publicly announce that you were the sole cause of all the wars between the peaceful Germans and the war-mongering Americans.
2. You immediately pillage the uranium tile within your borders on this next turn. I will know you have done this by the trade screen. You may reconnect that uranium resource when you have learned the tech "Integrated Defense".
3. You will not receive a source of uranium from any other nation on earth. EVER!
4. You may reconnect your aluminum resource in which to build parts for your own spaceship starting this turn. We the peaceful Germans do not feel the need to prevent you from attempting to build your own spaceship at the earliest opportunity.
5. You must dismantle your entire army except for twenty-seven (27) infantry or mechanized infantry. This will allow you to keep the peace in your own cities. We realize you are a Democracy but should you ever switch to another form of government you will need those troops. We the peaceful Germans realize that in order to maintain stability throughout the world you must first maintain stability within your own nation.
6. These terms are non-negotiable. I eagerly await your response.

DogBoy of the peaceful Germans

Battle report:

American losses
2 Cavalry
3 Workers
17 Mech Infantry
5 Tanks
2 Infantry
1 Leader (DOH!)
Land close to the American-German border was pillaged.
Land close to the Chinese border where a lot of your forces are stationed was pillaged. A few of your units there are damaged but not destroyed.
Aluminum resource was nuked. I don't know how many or what units you had there, but I think they are gone.

German losses
26 Panzers
2 Mech Infantry

We are certain this is some kind of mistake, and we also laugh at the fact that your losses seem to outwiegh our own. In your response to your demands:

1) As leader of the Americans I have only been at war with your nation once. When I took over as leader, my nation was at war with you and we immediately negotiated peace after conferring with China who was signed to an alliance with you. I will certainly not claim responsibility for any of those wars. As for the brief skirmish, I have always accepted responsibility for that, even publicly, but if you wish me to do so again, I will gladly do so, I think I already have, hope that was sufficient.

2) I will most certainly not pillage the uranium in my own land, I would rather build ICBMs to nuke all your resources since you have nuked mine, rather convenient that I also have the technology to build them now & will start cranking them out. However, as a part of a peace treaty I would be willing to agree not to build any ICBMs if you would also agree to the same.

3) I doubt I will ever need to recieve uranium form another nation since I plan to keep my own.

4) We have plans for reclaiming our aluminum resource, thank you for your concern, and we are grateful that you have given us this permission, but it was rather not needed.

5) We have disbanded some units from time to time when it has met our needs, and we will be willing to disband our units if you also disband yours. However, I would at this time like to point out that as a Democracy I am much more capable of paying 1 gpt /unit than you will be as a republic at 2 gpt /unit, massing troops could get rather expensive for you, so perhaps it is best if we both just disband them.

6) The terms of peace make me laugh. I am withdrawing all my units into my borders where you are not permitted to touch them. GO ahead and attack the stragglers, save me some unit support. Pillage the rails & roads, take some of my resources, do whatever you want. I am simply going to build ICBM's and nuke every resource of yours that is not within your borders. Plus my bombers & fighters will soon start bombing your units from the safety of my own borders. All the while you will be forfeiting your hopes of reaching Alpha Centauri, Cleopatra on the other hand will laugh all the way to the moon and beyond. I have no problem with that, do you?

Notice to other civilizations - any nation trying to take over my resources will be punished.

I sent the following message to Predesad but decided to post it here because I figured he would anyway. It appears as if he is attempting to garner support for his cause by painting me out to be the bad guy. I don't think my demands are too harsh. All I want is peace and to launch my spaceship to Alpha Centauri, the same as everyone else. Just so everybody knows how serious I am about making peace and launching my spaceship, here is the battle report:

Predesad of the Americans,
I applaud your effort to meet my demands, but it wasn't enough. I know that you were not always the leader of the Americans but that matters not to me. I was hoping you would pillage your uranium which serves no purpose but to make weapons of war. I am sad to say this war must continue.

Battle report:

American losses
11 cavalry
23 infantry
37 mech infantry
3 tank
4 workers captured, 2 destroyed in the nuke blast
Lost the following resources:
2 grapes
2 incense
2 coal
oil
saltpeter
dyes
iron

German losses
8 panzer
5 mech infantry

I hope this meets your approval of me not losing more forces than you during this battle.

Signed: The peace-loving Germans who want to make the world safe and to end this war, and eagerly await the American's approval of my more than lenient peace proposal,
DogBoy of the Germans

If you just want peace then why are we fighting? Notice the hipocrisy in your words as you state: "I know you were not always the leader of the Americans, but that matters not to me." War / peace, whatever, but did I miss something, where there some new peace proposal, something reasonable besides, "Kill off all your units while I build up all mine, deny yourself uranium, while I build ICBMs" I am sad to realize how stupid you must think I am. I don't think anyone outside of China is going to buy what your selling, although the entire world might be interested in whatever you're smoking.

Oh, btw, uranium serves more purposes (in game) than to just make weapons of war. By pillaging that resource you are limiting me too severely & I cannot accept that.

Disclaimer: in past experiences in games some people have taken comments seriously and arguments have been started, emotions have run high, pride has been hurt . . . although I do not fear that type of thing happening between DogBoy and I, other players and any lurkers should take note that there is nothing personal involved.

Predesad is correct...all our in-game comments are meant to stay in game. I take nothing he says about diplomacy seriously and I know he doesn't take my comments seriously.

SB 387 done --------> predesad

Egypt is remaining neutral in this conflict. With nukes being used and threats of nuclear retaliation space may be the only safe place to be.:D

sent to China

well, this game was getting a little boring, as i was coasting to victory, germany of course knows this, hence the war to "punish me". i will give you this warning right now, in about 4-5 turns i will have my aluminum secure and all hooked up, my workers are there now to clean up the fallout. i will then be able to build nukes. Soon I will also reacquire oil. Uranium & rubber are not a concern. Germany needs to realize this.

Germany also needs to realize I have enjoyed the little show he and China have put on and thanx for making it interesting for a couple turns. Now, I want the resources I formerly held along with a peace agreement. If I do not get that before I am able to biuld nukes and modern armor, once I have those weapons it will be too late. Germany needs to realize this & ponder if they are capable of handling things as well as I am. Germany also needs to realize that Egypt & America have no concern about trade routes because of harbors, Germany has no coastal cities and no harbors, their trade routes are therefore slightly easier to destroy.

Continuing this pointless war to try to prove something and restore your injured pride is only going to cost you any chance you might now have to win the game. You have indeed cost me some losses, not just military, my economy has been hit. Further damage is really not possible, maybe a minor annoyance here or there, but that's it no more real damage can be done. Perhaps you have done enough to give you a chance to win, but those chances are going to continue to drop as the war continues and you will regret this action.

battle report:

bombed 4 panzers & killed them to get them out of the way of some of my units trying to get home

bombed some other units in places just because i could

bombed the uranium outside my territory just to be a little annoying, its not like you dont have your other sources, after all what belongs to china really belongs to germany. i think soon though i will just decide to add that uranium to my own collection of resources

The Egyptians have decided they wanted to be in this war after all. Even after they told me they were going to stay out of it. All the peacful Germans wanted to do was to end this war as quickly as possible. It was never our goal to make this a long and bloody conflict. The Egyptians have prevented this by blocking my avenue and they know full well they were doing that when they did it  I have therefore attacked them in an attempt to get to the Americans to end this war as quickly as possible. The only reason I post this here is because I'm sure both you evil nations are going to try to bring the Chinese into this war and make it a long conflict.

On a different note, I made a mistake and attacked the Americans inside Egyptians soil. I misclicked my panzer and it attacked that American infantryman. I didn't kill the infantry and I lost a panzer doing it. I thought about redoing my turn but felt there was no way I could replicate everything I had done. I think I have paid for my mistake by losing a panzer but if anybody feels differently let me know and we can work something out.

Battle report:

Americans:
9 infantry
6 mech infantry
Nuked some stack of mech infantry but couldn't count the dead.
Lost saltpeter
Lost iron
Lost Horses

Egyptians:
11 infantry
6 cavalry
2 tank
2 mech infantry
1 artillery
1 worker
Lost aluminum
Lost rubber

Germans:
4 cavalry
4 mech infantry
5 panzer

Those are bold faced lies, there isn't an ounce of truth in this statement and germany knows it, except for the part whee egypt said they were going to stay out of the war. amazing how the "peace loving" germans manage to blame everyone else for the wars they start. of course, germany has not made any mention of the "assistance" the chinese have given to them in this war, blocking being the least of the atrocities on their part.
